Blackpool v Hull City Official Matchnight Thread 15.12.20

I think it's fair to say I absolutely lost my shit there in the 93rd minute and haven't really come down off the ceiling yet! Think if I'd have been in the ground I might well have damaged a few limbs.

They really need to sort out that zonal marking off set pieces at the back. That's a repeated weakness and one I'd have been happy for a point for, as I could see Hull getting another one of those in the four minutes added on. Sort of knew it was coming when Ekpiteta could only force the ball onto the post for what would have been 3-1 up the other end before it. But every credit for pushing on again, getting players into the box and committing to everything it takes to try and win a game in that moment. Answered the question over the 90+ about how they can come from a losing position to win.

Looked like they got a bit of a shoeing off Hull in the game just because of how they are, big and strong and a battle with them constantly moving the ball out wide. Gretarsson looked like he was asking the ref what round it is at full time just before the feed went off. And Dougall and Robson looked a bit out on their feet, felt a bit outnumbered at times even with the five in there.

You could see tonight that we lost something in midfield when we put 2 strikers on though.
But I agree, the issue we have when it appears it isn't (regardless of formation) working is the forward line isn't linking up, which leads to Madine losing it because he is isolated.
If we play 2 up top with Yates alongside him, or with Anderson properly supporting him in a 3 it shouldn't really matter.
I thought Anderson looked really good tonight, I hope he gets a chance to start on Saturday.
I thought Anderson had a very quiet first half and I might have even hooked him but when he moved out to the left he matured like a fine wine.

I think Anderson will start on the left instead of KaiKai at Accrington.
Nothing wrong with mixing things up, tippy tappy laborious football for 40 minutes. Quick free kick, goal one. Big boot down the middle goal two. Great football for the third. Different team with two upfront, just admit it Neil.

I think he needs games and he'll impress, especially out wide.
Let's hope we get to see more of him in the coming games.
The strength we have in depth to be switching the team around like we can is mental!

What a game! Couldn’t take my eyes off it.
The team were great, Hull were great, but we deserved that win.
We will do well this season, just need to keep up the steady progression.
Well done Critch and the lads.

Can you imagine the noise that would have been created when CJs goal went in?
It would have taken the bloody roof off!!!
As the table stands at the moment....
Hull beat 3-2
Pboro beat 2-1
Pompy beat 1-0
Lincoln should have beat 😡
Doncaster should have beat😡

Blackpool have NOTHING to fear in this division.
Whilst watching the Cods v Hull match on sky earlier in the season someone on here was crowing that those two clubs were miles ahead of Blackpool and we'd be nowhere near those two teams by the end of the season, challenging me to a virtual £50 bet.

We are now 4 points off play offs, 8 points off top place🤔
Not bad for a shit team😁
Only 6 points off automatic now 😀😀

I take your point about set pieces against us but sometimes you just have to recognise a good goal from a good team.

I felt nothing on Saturday - kind of knew we were never going to win it but even when they pulled back to 2-2, I still felt we'd go on and win that one!

Great way to win.

After that tough 20 mins after we went ahead too, where we couldn't pass the ball. Felt like I'd been to Hull and back.

Only to come through with one Hull of a winner.

Deary deary me. Dreadful, brain freezing pun time

Only 6 points off automatic now 😀😀
And the teams below us are now 3, 5 and 7 points behind.
Our recent form has put us in the leading group - after an indifferent start, that should motivate everyone to keep us up there & progress further.

It's not easy being a fan of 'The Mighty Pool.' I do so much dodging and weaving about, going for headers and changing my feet round during matches, June must think I've got a 'nervous tick.'
I'm knackered after every match, sweating, and it's hard work.
Recently though, I'm chuffed but more relieved when we win, even though I always expect more from matches. Onwards and upwards.

The Blackpool of old, never make it easy but!!! Best win for the last 18 months in terms of confidence
Best win since the Championship just before Ollie left for me, certainly in terms of the total football being played

Interesting 3 assists tonight:

1) Great ball from Garbutt

2) Great long ball from Maxwell!!!! 😉

3) Lovely flick from the much maligned Woodburn !!!!!

I think Critchley might have had something to do with it.

Are you the next league down from Walking football then? 😁

Just realised 5 of the next 6 league games are away. If we can keep ourselves within reach of the leaders at the end of that run of games, we will be in a very strong position.
