Blackpool v Hull City Official Matchnight Thread 15.12.20

Good game of football and the better team won.

I love that we kept going and for long passages of the game made the league leaders look ordinary.

I'm sure we will hear "worst we've performed all season" from more teams as we out think and out play them.

Long way to go, but we are heading in the right direction.

Come on Blackpool!

I think tonight also shows that there is without a doubt a way for this team to win playing 433, and even when the line up has been tinkered with, although I think tweaked is a better definition.

I admittedly wanted us to go 442 tonight but the way the game changed when we lost an extra body in midfield shows Critch knows what he is doing when he sets a team up to play in a certain way against a particular opposition.

The winner was exactly what I was talking about in my half time post, a little bit of cleverness and trickery (which we should have in abundance with the talent in our midfield and forwards) undoubtedly is capable of unlocking defences when it comes off. As we continue to build an understanding we'll create more opportunities. More of that and we should start notching a few more goals.

Yet again we've showed there is nothing to fear in this division.

That was the first iFollow goal I’ve been out of my seat for!!

Brilliant result. I thought Hull were very impressive and we have nicked a win there but I’m getting more and more impressed with the mentality of this Blackpool team.
Watching i Follow, I'm out of my seat for a beer, off to the loo ( a couple of times, depending on how many beers!). Constantly being talked to 😜, which is a distraction!

For the first time this season, tonight I too felt it!!

Whoop, whoop!!! Get in!!!

The stats don’t lie, more possession and more shots. The best team won and I don’t think we were at our best.

Like I said on another post at the weekend, there aren’t 6 better teams than us, I don’t think there are 2. Really exciting squad with lots of individual talent.

Thought we looked a different proposition when Madine was up with Yates, and Keshi wide. Feel a bit for Kaikai, as he too benefits from Yates and Madine. Kaikai has class and he’ll bounce back.
That's a good point TT, I think we are a good team now but using no science whatsoever I think we are still at about 75%, we can and will improve so much more.

Can you imagine the noise that would have been created when CJs goal went in?
It would have taken the bloody roof off!!!
As the table stands at the moment....
Hull beat 3-2
Pboro beat 2-1
Pompy beat 1-0
Lincoln should have beat 😡
Doncaster should have beat😡

Blackpool have NOTHING to fear in this division.
Whilst watching the Cods v Hull match on sky earlier in the season someone on here was crowing that those two clubs were miles ahead of Blackpool and we'd be nowhere near those two teams by the end of the season, challenging me to a virtual £50 bet.

We are now 4 points off play offs, 8 points off top place🤔
Not bad for a shit team😁

Son texted me 'CJ .... gerrin !!' a full 2 minutes before the goal on my IFollow. Obviously his internet is better than mine !

Great battling performance tonight by two commited teams ,but overall the better team won , the confidence the whole club and fans are getting can only keep improving ,we will still lose and win games but we are getting better by the week, cant wait to get back in the ground #utmp

I'd have to bite my lip before I said better team won. However, we scored good goals so I'm happy with that.

4-4-2 and 4-4-3 are just numbers. What is currently important is the way we use Madine as part of a 2 or 3 and not as a 1.
But to be fair we do play "total" football where the whole team contributes defensively and offensively.

certainly wouldnt say the better team lost, it was a very even game. Hull look a very effective side, and they can pile on the pressure. but like we have been a lot of the season with having loasds of pressure and no result, tonight was just our night.

We have nothing to fear but our Manager's foibles.

Imagine if we actually had a bit of luck in front of goal !
Attackers need to start stretching for the ball in front of goal, there was two tonight that just needed that deflection, and easily within reach. But all credit for tenaciousness. looking over the last few weeks I can't see any reason why we can't challenge for promotion.

You could see tonight that we lost something in midfield when we put 2 strikers on though.
But I agree, the issue we have when it appears it isn't (regardless of formation) working is the forward line isn't linking up, which leads to Madine losing it because he is isolated.
If we play 2 up top with Yates alongside him, or with Anderson properly supporting him in a 3 it shouldn't really matter.
I thought Anderson looked really good tonight, I hope he gets a chance to start on Saturday.

Just had a look at the Hull forum and they really are not a happy bunch. Absolutely slamming that performance and the manager and saying we fully deserved the win.
They are top of the league!

We played Hull today who were 2nd in the form league with us at top. Accy are now 2nd in the form league with us still top who we play on Saturday.

Feels like we are defending our belt every game!
