Blackpool v Hull City Official Matchnight Thread 15.12.20

I think that tweet wins the 3 words competition!

I watched the extended highlights earlier and noticed a number of excellent long passes - as well as that one. There was one in the build up to the first goal, a quick free kick from Dougall, and another from Gretarsson that put Hamilton in during the first half. And one from Robson that ended with CJ being foiled by the keeper, also first half. We are blessed with some great passers of the ball. Those three in particular when it comes to the longer range stuff. Hopefully we will see more, especially from Gretarsson, stepping out with the ball. 🤣

Just watched the goals back and despite Maxwell playing well recently, can't help thinking a taller keeper would have saved their second. Nit picking i know and not many keepers would have made that save against Oxford.

I thought that too. He has been fantastic in recent weeks but I feel a taller keeper keeps that 2nd Hull goal out.

The movement on that 3rd goal was superb
Yep there was absolutely nothing Hull could of done about it. The passing was so quick that they couldn't even foul a Pool player to try and stop the move. I'm still high from that result 2 days latter. Who needs drugs when you can get a natural high from a Pool win.

On the blackpool FC site report, it says a scrappy ball in finished by CJ, nowt scrappy about that move, real quality

only thing I can't tell properly from replay was did the final touch before CJ shot come off a Hull player or a Pool one ?

I’ve watched it time and time again and it was slick, impossible to defend against and in no way scrappy. It was as good a move as anything we saw on our way to the Prem.

That 3rd goal was one of the best I've seen us score in the lower leagues from the point of view of the speed and accuracy of the link up play between four players. The defender that was bypassed by it just looked totally bewildered when he turned round and saw the ball was already in the back of the net!

I was buzzing after that winning goal, but then felt a bit flat, I've pondered about this since, I think it's really because at a game you talk to all those around you, then on the way out of the ground it continues, if you have a pint on the way home it happens again. All part of the matchday experience. It's great we won in the way we did, but a little sterile, I was hoping for Tier 2 if only to attend the odd game ☹️

It was a piece of genius from the goal machine! Or a ricochet off a Hull defender. I'm not sure. 😉

I love the fact it was so brilliant, people are questioning how it could have happened and wondering if there could have been some luck involved! Looked to me like all the players were alert and aware of the effect of one-touch football.
