Blackpool v Hull City Official Matchnight Thread 15.12.20

2 very difficult away games coming up, 4 points from Accrington and Sunderland would be incredible. I’d take 3 if offered now tbh. If we can take 6 I think it’s time to start thinking about the real possibility of a push for the title. The first in many of our lifetimes !
There’s incredibly 15 points to play for between now and January 2nd ! Critchley’s tinkering and the strength in depth we possess is looking incredibly important.

Imagine the turnout there on Saturday in normal times. That’d be an extra man

What do we think regarding player ratings. I`d go.......

Turton 6
Ekpiteta 7/8
Gretarsson 7/8
Garbutt 7
Robson 6
Dougall 6
Anderson 7
Hamilton 7
Yates 6/7
Kaikai 5

Subs Madine 6, Virtue 6, Woodburn 6.

Well I’m glad I missed a boring 0 - 0: the first match I’ve missed this season all down to actually being walloped by Covid for the first time, went to bed at 5pm and didn’t wake up till 10pm, worst I’ve felt since I tested positive,

Still, on a selfish note, I’m glad you all suffered a terrible no score bore as that makes me feel better. I’m sorry you’ve all had such a dull evening! 🙈🙈😱😢🤪🤓🥳

Be interesting to see how we cope withour Dougall, when it's his turn for a rest. He has made a massive difference to this team, but thought he looked a little tired tonight and may be due a sit down on the bench.

Hope the Seasiders result made you feel a little better.Hope you get well soon.

Just higher. We put in a good performance, I'd probably take them all up one. We beat top of the table and scored three.
On my scale If 5 is just below average, 6 is average,7 is good,8 is very good and 9 and 10 are reserved for Messi and Ronaldo.

Are you the next league down from Walking football then? 😁
I'm okay for walking round a snooker table, and even running to the bar for last orders, but as for walking football being The Premier League, I'm in the fourth division.
👍🍺😀

Good to see lots of posts - they are rapidly coming together now this team

well done Critchley, Calderwood and the players

Lovely team
I'd drop Dougall to a 6. He struggled tonight.
Maxwell could be an 8 but for his stupid mistake. I agree with you - 7.
Hamilton and Anderson, yes - 8.
Ekpiteta and Viking 9 ( Viking first half 6).
Madine 9. When he came on he caused problems.
Yates 7.
Turton - good, 7.
Garbutt defence 6, attack 8.
Robson, 7 but tired later.
Virtue, 7
Kaikai 5
Woodburn 7, showed promise.

Let's hope that Accy isn't after the Lord Mayor's show.
Out of the 6 games we had up to Sunderland which included Pompey, Hull Donny, weirdly Accy looks now to be the toughest game in that stretch. I thought they may be our best chance for points through Nov and Dec. Such was the feeling at the time.

They will be a handful but, I think they’ll also be worried about us. The confidence boost specifically from a last minute winner is going to be massive I think.

Michael Nottingham reunion time. He scored at the weekend, from outside the box!

What a squad we have put together in a relatively short time. God knows what it will look like in another 12 months.
I said, pre season, that we should be looking at a team after next summers transfer window. We have a great squad at the moment, that will be fine tuned over the next year, the future’s bright.... blah blah

🥳🥳

What a great and deserved win. I honestly thought Hull were by far the best side we've faced this season. They were a threat every time they got the ball forward, and I think it's a real testament to the quality of our centre backs that we really stood up to them. They were under a lot of pressure at times, and their concentration levels needed to be top notch. I know we conceded two, but I think any team that let's their guard down against Hull will get a pasting. We didn't.

The amazing thing is that despite this fantastic run of results, I really feel this team have several gears they haven't even tried yet.
And what other squad in this league could change 5 players to their starting lineup against top of the table and still take three points?

I see there was yet more criticism for Critchley before the game about his lineup. That's fine if you don't agree of course, it's all about opinions. However, things like "another cock up from Critchley" is a bizarre comment considering recent results.I also saw someone on twitter that called him a pratt because of the lineup. My question is, having now deservedly beaten the top 3 teams in the last few weeks, what result this season would make you give him the benefit of doubt? One good win could be a fluke, but consistently beating the best sides is a demonstration that you know what you're doing (and yes I include Calderwood in this too). We did well with the lone striker (who did actually score don't forget), and adding Madine did make us more effective up front, however we also started to lose the midfield too. It's a fine balance and we've been getting it right. Being able to change the team without weakening it, and being able to play different ways is most definitely a good thing.

How long this run can continue remains to be seen, but I think our squad rotation is actually going to give us an edge towards the latter stages of a shortened season. Onwards and upwards!

Can you imagine the noise that would have been created when CJs goal went in?
It would have taken the bloody roof off!!!
As the table stands at the moment....
Hull beat 3-2
Pboro beat 2-1
Pompy beat 1-0
Lincoln should have beat 😡
Doncaster should have beat😡

Blackpool have NOTHING to fear in this division.
Whilst watching the Cods v Hull match on sky earlier in the season someone on here was crowing that those two clubs were miles ahead of Blackpool and we'd be nowhere near those two teams by the end of the season, challenging me to a virtual £50 bet.

We are now 4 points off play offs, 8 points off top place🤔
Not bad for a shit team😁
Great result wizzerboy , hope you are well.

Excellent win.
Here are my ratings:
Maxwell 6 Turton 7 Ekpiteta 8 Grettarson 8 Garbutt 7 Anderson 7 Robson 6 Dougal 6 Kaikai 5 Hamilton 7 Yates 6

Virtue 5 Madine 6 Woodburn 5

It was interesting that Critch got a lot of criticsm for not starting Madine but when he came on Hull totally dominated the midfield.

I think you got that one wrong. Best team by far this season. They face Pompey on Friday with a 5-30 KO. An opportunity to gain more ground.
I thought Hull were brilliant...I had a look on their forum & the majority of fans want Grant McCann out...They also thought their team were awful last night lol.

Yeah bloody hell it's like reading AVFTT after a defeat! I felt like registering to point out they played well and were probably the best side we've faced this season! And to tell them to get off McCann's case! Poor bloke.

It's getting there and with the addition of a clinical goalscorer we could be assured of a play off place. Also, it's essential that we are able to keep Ballard beyond January.

Many many positives last night and Im sure Kai Kai will bounce back (probably from the bench). I am not his biggest fan but Virtue is beginning to shape up following injury and my guess is that if Dougall needs a rest then it is him that will fill in. We now have cover in every position bar goalkeeper and striker and these two areas need addressing. We just need a good festive period now to be real contenders...any Blackpool fans know how poor we usually are at this time and I hope Critch will keep the squad focussed and keep the momentum we clearly have.

It is great to see everyone united behind the club and now the manager aswell. He will make mistakes on the way but who doesnt? It really is Simon Saddlers tangerine army, Neil Critchleys tangerine army, Simon Saddlers Tangerine army Neil Critchleys Tangerine army. Now just get us all back to the games home and away.

Fantastic win. Moments like the winner are what football is all about. Garbutt, Ekpiteta, Gretarsson and Madine were all outstanding.

I was worried about our recruitment earlier in the season, but you've got to say a huge well done to the transfer committee on assembling what looks like a very competitive squad. We are in a great position being able to rotate to keep players fresh, and adding a striker to the current squad in Jan will improve us even more.

Very exciting times being a Pool fan at the moment, on and off the pitch.

If KD is rested then we still have Robson and Ward to play in there. Plus Virtue and Williams. Is Virtue ready yet to start and play 90?

Thought although not Dougall best game he still put one hell of a shift in, he was up against some very good players and we came out on top.
