Callum Wright to Plymouth

Big surprise, but there'll be good reasons & the move obviously suits everyone.
Good luck in the deep south Callum, & thanks for your short time at BFC.
It would be great if all signings that don't work, could be terminated so quickly - we could have a much needed clear out 🤣

Correct me if I’m wrong but as a coach you have no input whatsoever (or maybe limited) into the recruitment of players, and that this is the sole responsibility of the recruitment team that was headed by John Stephenson who is still being paid until end March!

I suspect the recruitment team is there to support the head coach and to identify and recruit talent for the development squad as well as the first team squad, but I’d expect the coach to have plenty of input and influence over incomings.

Last minute buy by bullshit Ben to soften the blow of letting Bowler go.
Just didn’t work out and cost the club hundreds of thousands of pounds.
If I were Sadler I’d be demanding an investigation of why a large sum of money had been tossed into the wind.

, the previous recruitment team were clearly not fit for purpose and thankfully they have been booted, but the damage their poor work has done to the club has been huge. Who was responsible for interviewing them and taking them on as they signed some seriously awful players from Nuttall to Wright
I'm not arguing for the sake of it, as I've seen a few posters put this thought out there it's just I saw your comment just now and I honestly think there's more to it than just the previous recruitment team weren't all that. I think there's a bit more discussion around it.

Phase 1. Nutall, Hardie, Devitt, Tolliet el al, well all signed when there was literally no recruitment team at the club, and frankly god knows who was scouting, assessing and getting deals over the line. The story about Nuttall, Dunn and Grayson all making money out of that deal is really annoying.

Phase 1.1. Was after the Covid cancelled season, and in an interview 'Bulllshit' gave last year he mentioned that he decided to 'go for it' at the start of the first proper Lg 1 campaign, pushing the boat out wage and fee wise for Yates, Keshi, Marv et al.

At some point after this the club continued to develop and appointed John Stevenson in Nov '20.

He then improved this with the winter window of '21 with Simms and Embleton. These two were critical in getting us promoted.

Phase 2. Was the Championship improvements and Stevenson and Mansford brought in Gabriel (fulltime), Carey, Connolly, Bowler, Keogh, Grimmy, Wintle.

Jan wasn't that good as a follow up with only Kirk that really contributed.

Phase 3. Last Summer - Bit of a disaster, there's absolutely nothing about it that was good. In mitigation, I think Critchley leaving threw a massive spanner in the works, as if you look at the stand out success 'Phase Two' was completely built for a Critchball team.

But still, the management are paid very well to overcome these hurdles which clearly they didn't.

Anyway, not intended as an argument point, just a counter point to the previous recruitment team were just not all that. Some successes some failures. A bit like life really.

As has been said, we have to gamble a little bit more than clubs who can go out and buy oven ready Championship players. We are basically bargain hunting, buying in bulk and hoping we unearth enough good players to achieve our goals. The last 2 windows have been shocking, the fact we've brought in a new recruitment team shows this has been identified and hopefully corrected. Simon Sadler has come in for a bit of stick but you can't blame him and you can see that when changes need to be made he is decisive.

You are wrong

Was made quite clear that no signing is made without the coach’s say so

John Stephenson is head of football operations, not ‘head of recruitment’. His remit has more to do with enhancing the academy and player development. It would appear we’re going in a slightly different direction after he retires.

No inside information or speculation here. All based on public statements over the past couple of years

Oh I can also hear how that conversation with Appleton went given the timings!

Hi Michael, we've just sold your best player, there's a kid at Leicester who did OK for Cheltenham last season, seems to be well thought of at Leicester. It's the last few minutes, we've exhausted our list of targets, do you want him?

🙄

Makes you wonder what the cumulative losses of transfers have been over the last 2/3 years and add that to the stockpiling of inefficient players.

Won't be peanuts.

CW comes across as a right ** in the Gazette interview.
Yep and as l thought his attitude obviously wasn’t right here and probably thought of himself as a Billy Big Bollocks. Saw him also play for the Development team a couple of times and he gave the impression he just didn’t want to be there.

Well he wasn't our first, second or third choice was he! The fact we've binned him off after a few months suggests 1 of 2 things, he's not good enough or he wants out. Given his comments about lack of options, it just doesn't feel like this was a well thought out signing. I'll go further, it was a shambles of a deal; the club, agent, player are all culpable.

In a season or two and with the benefit of hindsight this may well prove to be a mistake. In the here and now we need fast improvement and at the moment Callum didn't suit what we needed and there's the books to balance. I'm disappointed it hasn't worked out but we're in a relegation fight.

That's far too reasoned for a reactionary like me!! 🤣 🤣

Odd correlation between Wright and Ian Holloway.

Ollie goes from Argyle to Leicester to Blackpool.
Callum goes from Leicester to Blackpool to Argyle.

No debate about who's legend will live on longest for the Pool.

Little bump for this thread ..
Great impact at Plymouth
Does make you wonder what happened with him!

I recall posts saying Leicester fans were dischuffed at losing him and he was a great prospect, something definitely went wrong with him here, just another worrying event under this current set up😕
