It's hard to know where to start with that. Anyone who thinks two centre half's will solve our problems are kidding themselves because our problems run deeper than that.
I recognise we're still a new team, but frankly that isn't an excuse for some of the things we're guilty of. Our entire team needs to grow a pair and start fighting for the ball and for each other. Note - pressing does not equal fighting for the ball. There were far too many occasions when we lacked conviction going for the ball today for my liking, and in previous games. And notice when we had it, there were two, sometimes three or four Ipswich players on our player immediately. The reverse wasn't true.
There is so little mental or physical strength in the team, and unless that is remedied we will roll over easily again and again and again. I would describe Blackpool as a very lightweight side who can keep the ball reasonably well on occasion but is incapable of doing anything with it.
Some of the balls in from Gabriel were good in the second half, but aside from that there is no final pass or quality in the final third. I think we got behind their defence once all game.
Ipswich today showed beyond doubt that it's the business end of the pitch that matters, and as much as I hate saying it, it is starting to look like we've got it wrong this summer. We've signed too many players who are too alike. To employ the system we are, you have to have bite and aggression in midfield which is exactly what we lack. What are Ward and Anderson contributing? What is their role? They're both too weak, we need better.
I'm still fine with giving this project plenty of time - that hasn't changed. But we have a lot of players who really lack the will to win in my view, and we've only got a few days next week to do something about it. Even at this early stage of the season I think we have little choice but to reassess our expectations this season.
