Blackpool v Ipswich Official Matchday Thread 10.10.20

I am not for one moment suggesting he's the same poor calibre, but Critchley's demeanor reminds me of Lee Clark. Always hands in pockets, looking down at the floor during interviews and not having eye contact when being interviewed. Hope we haven't got another like Clark.

Not many positives, but considering we let in 4, I thought Marv looked better than he has done previously. No one else has made a case for inclusion.

Williams is the worst player I've seen in 50 years. Why he gets on every week I just don't know.

Thorniley must wonder what he needs to do when we've an ineffective right footed full back in his place.
Makes Prendergast look like Matthews...

Critch needs to hold his hands up in his post match interview and diplomatically say that that was utter shite.
Forget looking for any positives, it was a mess.

He needs to have a serious re think about how he is preparing this team for proper football on a Saturday, because they are simply not at the races.

Ipswich never raised sweat. Terrible display all over the pitch. Stormy waters ahead for the good ship Blackpool. That must be the worst midfield I've seen for sometime. I hate football.

I am genuinely shocked at how poor we have been across the whole pitch in the last few games.

The only consolation...We’re not in the stadium to watch it.
Until the crowds are back this isn’t proper football. The crowds are particularly missed at this level.
Soulless experience.

Only one sub on when we are chasing the game (and a chite one at that) - weird!
He might be a good coach but game management thus far has been found wanting. He needs to change the Captain as well - we need a leader in the middle of the park.

It concerned me when most of the new players signed said they were ready to step up to mens football

that was horrible. a very odd substitution as well, looking for two goals and we bring on Williams, who proceded to be out of position and continually give the ball away. Also for a supposed "defensive" midfielder he pulls out of a lot of tackles. Ward needs resting. cannot believe we didnt bring on mitchell and have somone running at their defence for twenty minutes. we just do not do enough in the last third. I dont think ipswich are that good a side, they are functional in defense, but clinical in the final third. you have to wonder what do they practice at SG.
thats just depressed me.

Please dont panic. We are a young team ,we need time to gel,say another six weeks. Yates just needs a goal and there will be no stopping him. The ref today was rubbish, biased against us. We should have had at least three penalties. We were unlucky and didn't get the run of the green. Ipswich came to defend and set up a barrier at the back. We gave four bad goals away. We will put things right in trading. Until then get behind this team and we will get promotion.😁😁😁

I would love to know what Mr Sadler is making of this.

He must be very close to pulling this before we get cut adrift.

The fact Mansford said "We are hoping NC does well" in his speech at the Armfield said a lot last week.

Ipswich came to defend? They scored a lot of goals for a team who parked the friggin bus.

Spot on. Marv was the best defender by a mile - and he has played in that position every game. That's the key.

Williams - eek.

Fully expected Thorniley today. Turton wasn't terrible though given what he was asked to do, I think.

I think the issue is more than just about experience, or lack of it.
Maxwell, Turton, Garbutt, Williams, Madine, Ward etc have all got plenty of games under their belt.

I don’t know whether it's the players or Critch that needs a rocket up their arse, but something needs to change, drastically, soon.

How many teams who come to defend score 4 goals??!!

Words fail me (but we have to keep the faith (in Simon we trust ,to do the correct thing if and when he deems needed) but I think most of us have let our emotions run riot ,it's a brand new chapter in all our lives , for our great club ,remember the previous regime caused most of these problems . 😔 Up the mighty give Neil a proper chance knee jerk reactions are usually the worse thing to do .

We've got to hope the new two centre backs can be a big improvement. Need to bring in a goalscorer. No steel in the team . Lightweight. Not a single header won in the Ipswich area . Very worrying times .

Ipswich only bothered to attack about 6 times. They scored from four of them. We made pretty passing shapes and did did all.
Mr Critchley, we are not Liverpool FC. We are League 1 Blackpool. We need players who can perform at this level - not League 2 wannabes. I promised on this Board I would give you 15 games before asking for your resignation. I will continue to hold myself to that. Whether the Board are prepared to go that far?....well.

I'm not 100% what Williams is, but he is not the choice when 2 behind and trying to at least get another and a bit of confidence. Surely Kemp was a better idea in the circumstances? That was a poor substitution from Critchley.

Edwards for them has been quality today. Gabriel couldn't put a boot in for that second goal so he was stuffed as soon as he failed to stay goal side of Edwards. Gabriel looked half decent in spells on the attack but he got a lesson about defending at the hands of Edwards today.

This was definitely a step backwards overall. We have to hope the Viking and Ballad can shore up the defence and then hope Critchley can get the midfield working much better. There was very little sign of the players following any system today, which was concerning. It was more confusion and lack of effort in quite large doses. And again the lack of leadership on the pitch is glaring and a big concern.

So, just the defence and midfield to sort before we find out if Madine and Yates really do have goals in them when they get proper service. Yes, I'm well aware that is a hell of a lot to hope for!

Terrible showing today but trying to keep the bigger picture in mind. We'll get beaten like this more than once more I suspect but Rome wasn't built in a day.

Simon must be gutted (just like us) everything is getting better, vents being changed, roof stantions getting painted, pitch looks great, new astroturf on the touchline...

shame about the football team...😭

Always thought this was a season of consolidation - never thought we would finish in the top 6.

Having watched every game on Ifollow and a few of our rivals games I am now deeply worried. As things stand we are relegation fodder. Ipswich were not that good but we made them look like world beaters. I bet they do not get an easier away game all year. Brett stuttered to find any positives except that our 'ugly' play improved in the second half. We have players that are league 2 at best. The more games we play the more glaringly obvious those players are to identify. So we have a team full of inexperience - no real spine to the team - a ramshackle defence - several league 2 players and strange tactics/substitutions. Season of consolidation is looking like a pipe dream.

It's hard to know where to start with that. Anyone who thinks two centre half's will solve our problems are kidding themselves because our problems run deeper than that.

I recognise we're still a new team, but frankly that isn't an excuse for some of the things we're guilty of. Our entire team needs to grow a pair and start fighting for the ball and for each other. Note - pressing does not equal fighting for the ball. There were far too many occasions when we lacked conviction going for the ball today for my liking, and in previous games. And notice when we had it, there were two, sometimes three or four Ipswich players on our player immediately. The reverse wasn't true.

There is so little mental or physical strength in the team, and unless that is remedied we will roll over easily again and again and again. I would describe Blackpool as a very lightweight side who can keep the ball reasonably well on occasion but is incapable of doing anything with it.

Some of the balls in from Gabriel were good in the second half, but aside from that there is no final pass or quality in the final third. I think we got behind their defence once all game.
Ipswich today showed beyond doubt that it's the business end of the pitch that matters, and as much as I hate saying it, it is starting to look like we've got it wrong this summer. We've signed too many players who are too alike. To employ the system we are, you have to have bite and aggression in midfield which is exactly what we lack. What are Ward and Anderson contributing? What is their role? They're both too weak, we need better.

I'm still fine with giving this project plenty of time - that hasn't changed. But we have a lot of players who really lack the will to win in my view, and we've only got a few days next week to do something about it. Even at this early stage of the season I think we have little choice but to reassess our expectations this season.

Marv was OK. Turton isn't a great CB, but he shouldn't have played there, Thorn should have. Turton should have been RB, at least CJ would have seen the ball without 2 players round him for the first 20 anyway. Gabrial should NOT have played, with the defence struggling all season you do NOT bring in a fragile defender.

One thing for absolute sure, these 2 new CB's need to work, esp Greta otherwise the recruitment people look surplus, at best.

Soulless experience.
Only benefit would have been the crowd getting on their backs to try to wind them up. Boos at the end no doubt which might have resonated with some of them.
