Blackpool v Ipswich Official Matchday Thread 10.10.20

I just don’t know how anyone can even attempt to throw some light on the future after that crap.
We’ve learnt nothing at all over the past few weeks in fact we've gone backwards at an alarming rate. 🤔

I think he has to stick with Critchley, who else is going to want to manage a team of non league and division 2 players in division 1?

Destroy the players confidence further you mean??
I’m just saying, that is what would have happened if the fans had been there. I agree booing can have a negative effect, but maybe, given they’ve not played in front of a crowd here, and for a long time anywhere, it might just shake them up.

Simon Sadler must right now be wondering whether it was such a great idea to take over our football club as his money and his team seem to be heading rapidly down the plug hole.

I`m sure he started out with the best of intentions and was certainly welcomed after what the Oystons had for years inflicted on the club but the inexperience in their respective roles roles of both himself and his current choice of manager are being cruelly exposed and as I`ve said before picking the right man to manage the team is crucial to the club`s success as last season and this are making so very painfully plain.

I see what you're saying: perhaps one or two players might benefit from being reminded, diplomatically, that some of us didn't abstain for 5 years to watch people give 50% in the tangerine shirt?

I think SImons method, given he lives in Hong Kong and runs a hedge fund, is to appoint directors to run the club and make decisions. Yes, I’m sure they would have put forward their man with their recommendations, and he would have said get on with it.

Let’s face it, most of us were pretty excited about the Critchley appointment. Regrettably, so far it’s not working out.

It's hard to know where to start with that. Anyone who thinks two centre half's will solve our problems are kidding themselves because our problems run deeper than that.

I recognise we're still a new team, but frankly that isn't an excuse for some of the things we're guilty of. Our entire team needs to grow a pair and start fighting for the ball and for each other. Note - pressing does not equal fighting for the ball. There were far too many occasions when we lacked conviction going for the ball today for my liking, and in previous games. And notice when we had it, there were two, sometimes three or four Ipswich players on our player immediately. The reverse wasn't true.

There is so little mental or physical strength in the team, and unless that is remedied we will roll over easily again and again and again. I would describe Blackpool as a very lightweight side who can keep the ball reasonably well on occasion but is incapable of doing anything with it.

Some of the balls in from Gabriel were good in the second half, but aside from that there is no final pass or quality in the final third. I think we got behind their defence once all game.
Ipswich today showed beyond doubt that it's the business end of the pitch that matters, and as much as I hate saying it, it is starting to look like we've got it wrong this summer. We've signed too many players who are too alike. To employ the system we are, you have to have bite and aggression in midfield which is exactly what we lack. What are Ward and Anderson contributing? What is their role? They're both too weak, we need better.

I'm still fine with giving this project plenty of time - that hasn't changed. But we have a lot of players who really lack the will to win in my view, and we've only got a few days next week to do something about it. Even at this early stage of the season I think we have little choice but to reassess our expectations this season.
Spot on. Throw in that we are so under pressure to score goals now always being behind in games that we constantly choose the wrong option - twice today we had great opportunities in the first half where the ball should have been laid off with the goal begging, only for the player in possession to snatch at shots.
Have to say though that I saw more from Madine today in terms of trying to score than I have from Yates thus far. I’m still convinced that Yates will come good though - but it needs to happen quickly!

Gabriel was good going forward but culpable for 2 or maybe 3 goals. I'll forgive him cos he tried his heart out and was the best player in second half. He put some of our others to absolute shame by just ** running directly and trying.

Madine did perfectly well, could have had a couple and probably would have deserved them. Everyone else? I dunno. Were they playing? Why is the only change to bring a ** defensive midfielder on. Again. As he always does. Every match. No matter what. Every time.

Why the fuck not bring Mitchell on? I'm sorry, I really am, but he seems to have left Garbutt on (Garbutt did ok, he was knackered by the end though) simply to 'get minutes in him' and I really don't want to say this, but that is exactly what a reserve team manager would do.

I'm pissed off so I'm not being my usual optimistic self.

There's a team there, but they need either freeing up or kicking up the arse. They're not enjoying themselves at all, they're not expressing themselves. They're expressing a vision of football that isn't getting the best from them and not sure how to make it work.

Don't mind losing, literally not arsed if we go up or not as long as there's progress and we need to see something in the next few weeks cos that's a side devoid of confidence if ever I saw one.

Hopefully fitness of some new players and some returns from injury will give them something, cos we got absolutely done today.

Defensively we are woeful, Gabriel at fault for 3 goals, Maxwell I’ve never rated and could of done better for 2. Square pegs in round holes with Turton at CB. But the main issue is Anderson and Ward were utter useless, they may as well not have been playing. We are desperate for someone else in that position to go with Robson. It’s too early to call for the managers head and he needs more time however there’s a lot of work to do as last 3 performances have been concerning how we’ve lost. Finally we’ve signed too many players (again) and some aren’t good enough (again)

Thought Gabriel played alright...apart from the three goals he was at fault for.

Ekpitata played better today, Turton unconvincing. At least we've got new defensive options.

Still think the rest of it will come together but we've got to stop leaking goals.

I would like to see the defence and defensive mids put in some crunching tackles, in the 30 minutes I managed to see today, Ipswich players were happy to get close and challenge, knowing they were safe and with a good chance of pushing us off the ball.

Madine looked better than Yates in that position, but time and again crosses and passes were going to, erm, no one. Is this a training thing, in these circumstances you do this, or is it, I want rid if the ball? They don't seem to look up or be aware before hitting it enough, do you experts call it football intelligence?

I'm also going to point out that for all the stick @Spider29 gets he said 'Ipswich will do us on the counter attack' the other day. Spider in!

So apart from being complicit for 3 of the 4 goals Gabriel had a decent game? Christ your a forgiving soul.

We are getting worse and looking very poor and pose little threat, which is doubly worrying when we are also shipping a load of goals. No leadership on the pitch and incapable team manager off it. The only player who looked like scoring today was Madine and NC had resisted playing him until pressure from the fans. I don't know what they do in training, but it isnt working. Not helped by the lack of quality to do the basics - tackle properly, pass, cross the ball, and organise the midfield and defence. Continue like this and Sadler will have no option but to bin this inexperienced manager experiment. Why does NC persist on bringing on the useless Williams when we are behind in matches? I despair.
I spent the second half mopping the conservatory floor. It was far more exciting and at least had a purpose!
I will ceratinly not pay for another iFollow ticket for such tripe

Bring back Spearing!!! No I really mean it...

I'm just waiting for the next Kiddy Harriers to come along. For now I can't even see survival on the cards. That is the worst display I have seen from Maxwell, by far.

Thought we were holding our own & certainly doing OK until they scored. Then came the 2nd goal and you could tell the confidence dropped massively and we were beat.
Goals change games and we got hit. 1st was a great strike tbf. 2nd again got caught out with poor defending but you must also look at the Keeper.
Fell asleep at H-T so didnt see 2nd half.

A 'New Team' losing games and low on confidence. Thought we tried to mix it more with a few longer balls & by giving madine a shot I was happy with the front 3 selection but at the end of the day bad result & low on confidence performance not good enough.

I am not sure which was the most painful this afternoon sitting watching the match on the laptop or my hemorrhoids playing up..
For a fleeting moment I thought at the beginning of the second half we began to look more positive, but alas it was short lived, and has been mentioned on many post above there has to be improvement in all departments otherwise it will end in tears.

That's basically a much more readable version of my blog for this one. I wish I'd fallen asleep at HT tbh.

Hows the Dukes?

That's the problem though. He was genuinely on it going forward, making stuff happen, running directly, trying going cross field, playing decent balls, getting beyond into the box, essentially doing everything Keshi and Ward in particular weren't doing.

And yet he got done three times. Do you credit the lad for doing what others didn't or wish he'd not done it and just sat in at full back. To be fair, another day, Maxwell saves the second, the full back blasts the first over and the control on the last one was divine. He made mistakes but was unlucky to be punished every time.

At least he showed a bit whereas Ward and Keshi just either did the safe thing or nothing.

I can answer your question🤔 re/Williams we were losing we need a goal back so what you do is bring him on why because in 90 appearances he has never scored believe it or not😮 lols😂
