UNDERWHELMING

Wheres your 2m figure coming from? Feels about right but maybe a bit low.

I suspect our budget will be top 6-8 in L1 but we cant expect to walk the division or anything. We need smart recruitment and coaching.

If you look at the club's accounts for the y/e 30/06/2022, the club made a profit of ~£800,000, but that was after £2,000,000 for Critchley, which was clearly not in the budget, so he budgeted to allow a loss of £1,200,000, and I suspect he would've been prepared to go higher if needed.

Ok cheers. I never look at the club's accounts. Where are they? And how much did SS put in? Does that show up?

Companies House search for Blackpool foot, and it's about the 7th down.

Primarily, what it shows is the annual profit/loss, which gives us an idea of the level of support he's willing to provide, overall, including the purchase price and losses to date I think he's put in £15m - £20m.

If...But...Nah.

He was like a rabbit in headlights from day one. "Blackpool over achieved last season..blah blah."
Nothing epitomises the downplaying of expectations more than when he went in the Armfield and him/Mansford were saying Luton overachieved and will be down there in response to we should be emulating them and their success. They went and got promoted to the Prem, and that was after losing their talismanic manager!

I'll always give a Blackpool manager a chance, but he was never the right fit personality wise for us. You can get away with being dour when it's paired with results, he had that spell in October where it looked to be going well but his personality just amplified the negative feeling when it was going badly.

The problem with quality players is that they are quality players ,and that means that they are too expensive for us to buy or they believe that they can go to a bigger club then ours. The secret of our success in the past has been finding rough diamonds that nobody realises their potential and we have found them to be quality a bit further in their careers . We then get a good player that can be sold on for decent money.

If we bring in lets say 4 players that nobody knows much about ,but have potential ,then borrow another 3 or 4 from Premiere or Championship clubs , that will do nicely . So all this talk of being" little old Blackpool" then give your head a shake because to some that's what we are ,yet this does not mean we can't have success and beat some of the bigger clubs. We are what we are and you just have to accept it.

BLACKPOOL FOOTBALL CLUB HOLDINGS LTD & SUBSIDIARY COMPANIES

STRATEGIC REPORT

FOR THE YEAR ENDED 30 JUNE 2022

The directors present the strategic report for the year ended 30 June 2022.
Fair review of the business
The Group posted turnover of £17.80m (2021: £6.86m) in the year to 30 June 2022, generated by the trading subsidiaries The Blackpool Football Club Limited £15.29m (2021: £5.41m), Blackpool Football Club Hotel Ltd £1.59m (2021: £0.69m) and Blackpool Football Club Stadium and Property Ltd £0.92m (2021: £0.78m). This led to a Group profit before tax of £0.005m (2021: £5.178m loss) for the year.

To achieve this position, Blackpool Football Club Holdings was supplied with interest free, unsecured loans of £3.3m (2021: £5.5m). These funds are supplied by Seaside Holdings Ltd and its Director Mr S P Sadler. Additionally, all tax benefits generated as being part of Seaside Holdings Limited (2022: £448k, 2021: £164k) were reimbursed as cash to the benefit of The Blackpool Football Club Group, creating total provided funding of £3.748m (2021: £5.664m).

As at the 30 th June 2022, Seaside Holdings have provided £4.8m to BFC Group. Its Director Mr S P Sadler has provided £16.16m, including the initial purchase of the Group and its assets of £8.4m and a gift of £0.17m, with total tax reimbursements of £0.61m. Cumulative total funds received amount to £21.57m. This number is forecast to increase by £4m in the year 2023.
The Club participated in The Championship for the first season, after four years in League One. The Club had a successful year, retaining their Championship status by finishing 16th.

The Club was delighted to welcome supporters back to Bloomfield Road for the entirety of the season, after the impacts of COVID-19 prevented those from attending in our previous year.

Through the ongoing support of ultimate ownership, The Blackpool Football Club Group has been able to invest in crucial endeavours on and off the field. £1.8m was spent during the year on infrastructure projects. These investments include the improvement of our training ground for the betterment of our playing squads, green energy initiatives to reduce our environmental impact and energy consumption, and improvements to lounges and fan areas to better our matchday provisions and overall fan experience.

The Directors of The Blackpool Football Club recognise the importance of continuous improvement across each arm of the organisation. As a result, 44 new jobs were created across the Group during the year, with more created in FY 2023. These roles are fundamental for the continued progress of the Club and focus on bringing jobs to the local community.

I think this is the amount put in by SS? Including the purchase of the club which was 8.4m.

£25.57m over 4 years minus the purchase price is £17.17m = 4.29m a year.

If I'm understanding it, which i may not be.

I guess the question is" how much the club is worth now?" aside from the obvious "what someone will pay for it"...if we had invested last season then the club would easilt be worth more than the investment but now it will be close assuming we get 3-4 mill for Jerry...whatever the owner isnt that far adrift...however I doubt he has the appetite to get much deeper in

Im not sute the value of the club means much unless he wants to sell. Like the house you live in.

As an aside and in no way a criticism of the poster’s sentiment, why is it people are never ‘whelmed’? People are either underwhelmed or overwhelmed but there’s never a happy medium as being whelmed. Anybody any idea?

Another week drifts by and still no new blood...anyone else getting worried now?

There are plenty of good players out there and so far we have a freebie from Charlton who without their injury crisis would probably have been 4th pick for them. That said I am glad we have got him and he could polish up into a good player for us...however he is hardly a marquee signing and the clock is ticking. Does anyone else think Taylor Moore would be a great fit for us in this division?

I sincerely hope we are not waiting for Jerry to leave last minute like Bowler did and then having no suitable replacement lined up.

Don’t think anyone at the club has called Morgan our marquee signing tbf. He’s a player we signed that the club think will help. Can’t recall us ever bringing in a marquee signing either. I think we’ve got to be patient. I’d like a full squad in nice and early but few clubs do manage that. If we sign the players that get us promoted it’s irrelevant whether we’ve heard of them now or not or whether they arrive tomorrow or the day before the transfer window closes.

Critch has a positivity about him. He never ever talked us down once. He also had confidence and belief. The players believed in Critch and the system and the preparation. I think that belief drained out of the players last season. Because MA didn't believe, and the system was more hopeful than thought out and realistic. A lot of our fans criticised the Critch system but let's face it w had the cheapest squad in the league and Critch had to work with what he had, and he worked out something that worked. Well enough to keep us in games and snatch points against anybody in the division. More open flamboyant football is always preferable but costs money.
That’s what happens when you put a dour, miserable b‘stard in charge.
MA was a negative sponge for all around him. That’s why he was never going to work long-term.
Ollie was as mad as a box of frogs, but at least he was relentlessly positive and made them believe we could conquer all before us.

I hope Critchley still has that positivity and doesnt keep downplaying the club as Appleton did. I still hope we can turn things around in this window and if we can get Norburn it would be a start. Hope this is a big transfer week for the club.

You've not clarified this assertion that the club is 'defo for sale'. Has Sadler told you this himself. I mean, you'll be right eventually, be it in two months (doubt it), two years, ten years or twenty years. It's like me saying Ill sell my house one day,if the money's right, but I'm perfectly happy where I am for now. So what is it? Gut feeling, pure guesswork, inside info, or just a naturally gloomy imagination.

Surely if you want to sell something you advertise that fact? During the Critchley appointment interview nothing was said or inferred. I guess every club is up for sale in that if someone came in with an offer you can't turn down.

From an impeccable source..people who read my posts know I’m not an attention seeking bullshitter…
The clubs for sale but it’s not being advertised as such… also it’s a rumour repeatedly denied by the owner very publicly. It seems like a risky move by someone so financially astute. I can’t imagine many properties or businesses get sold for a decent amount of money following that tactic 😂

Also I’m not calling you a liar but all the evidence, logic, reason and business rationale suggests you’re spouting horse shite.

I was asked and I answered honestly...case closed...I wont mention it again
I just don't get where you're coming from though. You say you're 'underwhelmed' by Sadlers lack of ambition, as you see it, and you want him to sign better (more costly) players, but why would he want to anyway, if your source is right and he's looking to sell? Also, why would you hope that ' the owners ambition matches your own', if you're sure he's looking to offload the club?

Just because its for sale doesnt mean it will be sold anytime soon..in the meantime we have a new season to prepare for following on from a disastrous season under this owner's tenure..Im underwhelmed by the lack of communication and lack of transfer activity...plenty of time yet I guess.

Got it. So as a responsible custodian he is willing to sell to a potential possible owner who can improve the club and has a sustainable plan for future development, after due diligence is completed. Not a la Oyston, to the nearest supermarket.👍

I've just seen this. To be clear, it wasn't me who got your post took down. I don't have a problem with your choice of language, and you're obviously a passionate bloke. We just have different ways of expressing ourselves, and its usually easier to have a chat over a pint, where you can read the room. I don't like censorship, and anyone who can't handle criticism, couched in whatever language, is free to remove themselves from a message board. 👍

I think the last sentence is true. Ironic though after years of wanting stability, someone who cared about the club and would build the East and a training ground, suddenly some are wishfully thinking a new owner on us and we all know 90% of owners are not in it for the right reasons!

Totally @BFC76 - think some of our fans think it's like going to Yo Sushi and the candidates continue until your find one that you like - the problem is you could end up with a right dodgy one!

Well two months down the line and it’s still all a bit underwhelming. I still think we are 3 or 4 short and the owner has to shoulder some of the blame for that. I have seen our fans go from “we are going to piss this league” to the realisation that it’s not going to be easy. I’m still hopeful but far from confident. Anything less than the play offs is an abject failure and the lack of investment in the last 4 windows has really caught up with us.

Tony Parkes said the same before being potted by Belokon and Ollie joining .. sometimes I do wonder if the board also has a 'little Blackpool' mentality!
