The lies that won the Brexit vote

Coming home to roost isn't it? And I voted leave. Conned.

Heard an analogy today of a burnt old historical building and a guy outside the charred ruins continually shouting that he prefers it this way. This is what remainers sound like now we know it's been a catastrophic failure.

Anyway. This is how it was sold.

Yes you were conned, because it's easy to con thick people.

And the remain camp told no lies did it 😁

The punishment budget with immediate tax rises and cuts to NHS, defence and education budgets.Nope

£30 billion black hole.

Families £4,300 worse off.

Half Million out of work.

Inflation.

Housing crash.

Migrant camps along the whole of the South Coast.

Peace in Europe like we'd end up going to war with our neighbors and we're currently spending billions, training and sending weapons to Ukraine.

The remain camp for me was lazy and arrogant that they new they where going to win compare it with the Scottish referendum when out looked like winning they brought the big hitters and discussed the issues and in won handsomely same should have happened with this vote.

Stuart Rose thoughts who led the Remain camp sums it up.-

Respect for admitting you made a mistake.

Sadly too many still in denial.

We need to remember that the arrogant unconstitutional EU (parliament voted for but leaders not) did not give Cameron something before the vote to restrict new counties like Polish immigration policy, like France had. Also Jeremy Corbin refused to go on platforms with Tory and Lib Dems to encourage Labour voters to vote stay. But it’s happened and it’s time to get over it. Most of our present problems are due to the evil empires of Russia and China with war and letting Covid out of the laboratory respectively.

It makes no difference whether voters regret ticking the box. It's democracy. The majority decision was implemented. It's gone. What do you want people to say six years later?
You didn't watch the video attached did you?

The commenter says all Brexiteer's can come up with is "well that's democracy innit"? It's actually not democracy when it's based upon hundreds of made up lies made to millions of people.

Care to comment on my post of the lies told by the remain camp or is it the winning side ones which only count?

That makes zero sense. How can remain have lied when they lost? That's impossible. Nobody knows what would have happened in the UK should we have remained. It's mere supposition and some kind of half arsed deflection of the truth - that being that Brexit has been an unmitigated disaster.

The remain camp said we'd have emergency budgets, inflation, half a million out of work etc if we left not a single thing of their campaign came true like leave it was utter made up bullshit.
So James O'Brien can wang on all he wants but it's all one sided from a remainer.

Why are we discussing this now it's 100% the pandemic that has caused the shite we are in not flaming Brexit, Europe has higher inflation than us it hasn't helped them being in the EU.

Say three Hail Mary's and beg for forgiveness.

Maybe just be grateful the UK's turmoil is no worse than that of France, Germany etc

Don’t regret leaving the EU for one second.

There was mistruths on both sides of the debate.

Undoubtedly the EU want us back. They want us back for our money. They’d love us to come back with our tail between our legs, and to fall back into line along with the other 24 or so who are increasingly dominated by France and Germany.

We know the Italians and Polish are discontented with EU membership. So what better way to squash any further departures by making an example of the UK.

The EU have made it as hard as possible for us to extract ourselves from them. It’s punishment to show we can’t have our cake and eat it as they say.

However as time goes on we will thrive as an independent nation. I’ve no doubt about that.

I’m not gonna fall for the remoaner PR campaigns aimed at trying to get us to rejoin. It was to be expected. They only believe in democracy when they control it and it goes their way. How dare us stupid minions go against the EU and their cosy arrangements with global corporations. How dare we want more than to be controlled as one big flexible EU block of soldier bees having to buzz around obediently for the good of giant corporations. Nah. I’ll choose independence every time.

I love Europe but don’t have an affinity with the
EU.

By the way, I picked up a Spanish student at the airport recently and took her to Rossall school. Of course this must have been my imagination cos after Brexit not only were the planes all to be grounded, but we couldn’t work and study and visit European countries and vice versa. 🤣🤣

There's a lot of truth in that. There was never a debate. Just a load of hysteria and entrenched shouting.

You're quite right. There is no increase in inflation, housing costs have gone down, the NHS is going from strength to strength and we have full control of our borders.

There are no positives to Brexit, otherwise we'd be bombarded with the good news.

The fault lies with the remain campaign and the EU itself, they made it far too easy for fraudsters and charlatans to sabotage the vote with their lies.

And how dare they have agreed to a majority vote. Should have been 70% needed to vote for leave. Or at least 53%. But 52%! That’s not fair. 52% isn’t enough. Ok - it would have been better to stipulate that before the voting terms were agreed, but now the vote is lost we can see how 52% was too low. Shudda wudda cudda are the last words of a remoaner democracy manipulator.🤣🤣

All caused by lockdown, paying people to sit at home, lending business and printing of money quicker than my wife spends it absolutely fuck all to do with Brexit.

I don't understand how you can read 'democracy manipulation' in to it, the leave campaign won and the remain side fought a weak campaign, what's undemocratic about that? Silly little triggering dog whistle terms like 'remoaner' doesn't change that.

Also, are you sugesting that the leave campaign wasn't hijacked by lies told by proven liars? There was a big fuck off bus...

Which benefits touted by the leave campaign have come to pass?

Maybe Remainers need to stop griping at those who voted to leave and direct their wrath at the 27.8% who didn't cast a vote back in the olden days of 2016. At least the yes and no voters thought enough about the issue to bother ticking the box. Either way, it makes no difference, there was a vote, the voters decided, it's done.

God knows that was another massive hit, but business investment stalled from the time of the referendum and Sterling took a hit against the dollar from the moment of the Sunderland result from which it is still struggling to recover. The Government’s own OBR figures tell of a c4% year on year hit to GDP due to leaving the Single Market.
The Remain Campaign overegged it, but much of it seems to be coming to pass.
Our strategy to replace the lost trade and economic activity looks like being largely a ‘smuggler’s charter’ of not properly monitoring imports from the EU and a load of privately controlled free ports.
Where is that going to take us to as a country? I suppose we will have no choice but to wait and see!

It’s not done though is it. It’s ongoing and will be for a very long time.

You keep talking about democracy but it’s obvious that the electorate were hoodwinked.

Some will admit they were because they’re big enough to take that on the chin, then there’s people like you with your pathetic defence of politician’s lies.

I think it’s shameful.

I think the problem was Labour voters voting leave 🤔
That’s where Cummings played a blinder. I can imagine the conversations (behind closed doors). How can we get these thick bastards to vote leave, they don’t even watch the news or read any newspaper’s. Wait a minute we can research where these morons live using top data mining techniques without them even knowing. Then lure them in with trivia & subliminal messages through social media platforms. Bingo it swung it.

This isn't Russia. Everyone had a free vote. Most voters are mature enough to make up their own minds. The only thing that's shameful is the refusal by some to accept the result of the vote on the basis that they don't agree with it. Reminds me of Donald Trump when Biden was elected.

So you tell yourself it was a weak campaign yet they money spent on the remain campaign dwarfed that which was spent on leave. Kidding yourself it was a weak campaign is another way of convincing yourself we, the British public, got it wrong.

The bar was set too low. The rules were wrong. The public didn’t understand. The remain campaign was too weak. The Leave campaign lied. It’s all exactly what’s defined by ‘remoaner’. It’s a refusal to accept that democracy worked. Democracy manipulation is correct in describing those that wanted the bar raising once they’d not got the outcome they wanted. Don’t deny the airwaves wasn’t full of these remoaner folk once they’d lost.
Don’t deny these same folk will be doing their damndest to try and get us to rejoin.
You need to get over the bus. It’s quite clear the principle was correct. Don’t give our money to the EU to waste but instead use our money for our own priorities - and by heck have we got enough of our own priorities to deal with.

All this “remainers won’t accept the result of a democratic vote” is nonsense. It happened. We don’t have any choice but to accept it.

That doesn’t mean though we have to ignore, and stay silent about, the damage it’s done to the country and the economy, much as the Brexiters would like us to.

The leavers exercised their right to vote in the way they wanted and as they were entitled to do. However, whether they like it or not, they are going to be held responsible for the clusterfcuk they’ve inflicted on the rest of us.

Nah.

People were lied to and sold a dream that was impossible. I don’t blame them, they can only believe what they are told by people who are supposed to act in their best interests.

Nobody even knows what the benefits are, so people are rightfully questioning what the point of the whole thing was.

Then there’s people like you who won’t admit that the politicians took people for a ride.

You keep telling people to let it go, you need to let go of your ego and admit that it isn’t as rosy as you hoped it to be.

We'll re-join the single market I'm convinced.
And the Customs Union. The best we can hope for is a new Norway deal. We will take EU rules, but not have any say in them, but at least we will keep the Pound Sterling. We have to keep the £, it’s essential we are able to print money to pay the national debt. OK so we could get (have got?) rampant inflation but at least country can’t go bankrupt like Greece on the Euro. Fingers crossed.

I don't have to let go because I'm not holding on to anything. The Brexit vote was years ago and it only remains an issue because some people continue to be obsessed instead of getting on with their lives. It's a bit like me saying that Tony Blair was elected PM in 2005 because he made some promises that he didn't keep and Michael Howard should have done better, so for the next 20 years I demand that the vote doesn't count and I want all Labour voters to say they're sorry.

The more you look at it the more absurd it seems. Remainers seeking some kind of apology from the majority voters resembles a classic Monty Python sketch.

Spot on. It’s bitterness. Like the bitter SNP who lived tor a referendum- which they got, and lost. Yet they’ve not for one second accepted the democratic result of the Scottish people. They think democracy is to keep going until they finally get the result they want - and then that’s it - they would move heaven and earth to prevent any further referendums.
It’s so transparent and so childish and petulant. We live in a democracy. We have voting systems and procedures. When any given democratic event goes against the wants of someone, they cry like a baby, refuse to accept it; and keep bleating and wallowing hoping that their moans will eventually mean they get their petulant way. We only have one life. It’s better to live it positively instead of blaming everyone else for your self inflicted failings. Grow up.

OK, I will have a go at that...

immediate tax rises and cuts to NHS, defence and education budgets?
All coming in Hunt’s November budget.

£30 billion black hole?
Yep, it’s there. Kamikwasi Kwarteng made sure of that.

Inflation?
Currently 10.1% to 10.8%, depending on the data used, and heading upwards. That’s a ten-fold increase in the last 18 months.

Families £4,300 worse off?
Yep, £2K increase on energy bills alone in the past year. Average mortgage interest payments going up by anything up to £4K pa. Income tax thresholds frozen in the face of inflation. And many more costs.

Housing crash?
Housing prices now clearly into a long-term decline. IMHO that’s no bad thing given the unsustainable rises over the past few years with the average house price now something like 10x the average wage.

Migrant camps?
Well, in the past year alone we have taken in something like 40,000 illegal immigrants who the Home Office must have stashed somewhere. Oh yes, mainly disused Army and RAF bases and suchlike. That sounds like “camps”.

As well as evil Putin’s distorted worldview and Russian aggression, the Ukraine war is a massive failure in Western diplomacy, both by the USA and Europe.

Remain lost because Cameron was a naive gambler who had misjudged the mood of many in deprived communities and had not realised that they wanted to take this opportunity to stick it to the elite. He was over-confident because of the Scottish Referendum result. And he was cowardly in not taking on the RWNJs in his own party and useless in trying to disarm Brexit Party propaganda.

That allied with Farage’s xenophobic lying adverts and Cummings’/Johnson’s lies swung it. Bozo was a stupid selfish careerist not knowing the real damage he was doing, while Cummings is a classic “smash it all up” anarchist.

And that’s not including the last 30+ years of our fucked-up electricity generation and energy policies.
UK energy price increases? 200%. France? 4%. Because of their state-owned 54 nuclear reactors. OK, so they have had recent technical problems, but that’s sortable.

There’s high inflation across most economies. We had this thing called covid which meant workers stayed at home and didn’t make things. Then the economies opened back up and demand outstripped supply. Hence inflation. Then there was the Russia v Ukraine special military operation which caused gas and electric to be in less supply and greater demand.
Inflation isn’t Brexit.

The Brexit vote was underpinned by many left wing supporters. Maybe they’re LWNJs. I don’t know. This obsessive blaming of RWNJs is a fabrication.

Let's be honest if it wasn't for the thick labour supporters in the labour hotbeds of the West Midlands, East Midlands, East Lancs and the North East then it wouldn't have happened

As it has we should just get on with it, at least the Euro bureaucrats aren't wasting millions of our money, our government is quite capable of wasting our own millions

All politicians are cunts BTW
