Ollie Norburn

That's quite a significant fee for a 30 year old. You're not ever going to be able to sell him on and recoup any of that money.
Yeah true. I have no problem with occasionally diverting from "the model" - look where that's landed us. We have made profits on Bowler, Critch etc. (and probably Yates soon) so spending some of it on an experienced player we think can help get us promoted is a good idea.

Great news if true. Let's see if we get this one over the line. If we do he is just what we need. Bit of a risk after a serious injury but apart from that there's no history which may suggest he's a crock. Midfield pretty much sorted. We now need a striker to replace Madine 2 if Yates goes but let's hope not.

Visiting Bolton fan. We are deep in to talks to sign an Aussie international midfielder from St Mirren called Keanu Baccus, 23 years old. Reported to be costing a decent six figure fee. Speculation is that Norburn is/was the option if that deal doesn't work out. Norburn is Bolton born so there may be some two plus two = five going on in all this gossip. All along its felt like Peterborough are driving the speculation to get a decent fee for him.

Anyway we'll see what turns out.

I agree. It's also an investment with the goal being promotion because you aren't getting any return from a future sale of the player. Sadler needs to be praised for that if this happens. That is something that some on this board seem extremely unwilling to do for some unknown reason.

Experienced heads help the other young players to thrive too. I do hope that the majority of our signings are more in the Bowler mould though. Young, hungry and a lot of potential. Can then sell for millions and reinvest that into the squad.

Interesting. We were linked with Baccus as well but it's seemed like agent talk more than anything.

Yes we've also been linked with Baccus, but to be honest what we need is experience in my opinion so it wouldn't surprise me if we've made Norburn our priority. Especially as we tried to sign him in the championship too when Critchley was in his first stint as manager.
We have a number of good young players but few who can provide leadership.

If he is completely over his injury then he is just what we need in midfield and also in the team as hr is experienced and a leader. Him and Trybull behind Carey or Morgan would make for a very experienced pair of deeper lying midfielders, which will be great for the likes of Carey and Morgan.

Yes because the player wants to leave, and has done for a while. He had to be persuaded to stay by their owner last time we were interested.
He has wanted to leave for a while to return up north to be near his family. Very highly thought off by Posh fans and their ownership/management so they agreed if he did one more season they would facilitate a move. He was coming to us in Jan 22 for £800 then did his ACL - returned in Feb ( I think) and was great till the end of the season

Whilst I think he'd be a great signing, would it open the door for one of Dougall or Trybull to leave?

3 x defensive, 30ish year old midfielders wouldn't all play together, surely.

We’ve been after Norburn for a couple of seasons. ACL put paid to that.

Baccus is/was our back up option. Norburn is the player we will get. Better player and ready for a promotion push in a very weak division.

Even for a player who is 31 in October, I don't think the rumoured £350,000 is a significant fee these days. Especially when you think L1 clubs like Oxford and the massive were asking for over 1.5m last season for arguably lesser experienced midfielders.

I'd be very pleased if this happens, particularly beating rivals to the signing which we've not managed to do very often recently. It does seem to suggest Dougall or Trybull are either on their way or aren't match fit yet in the case of the latter?

Definitely worth a punt for 800 quid Daz 😉

Sometimes you have to buy players for now, not every signing should be with a view to developing and selling on. Last season we lacked leaders and experience with all our injuries and allowing Keough to leave without an experienced replacement. Norburn is basically the new Kevin Stewart but hopefully someone who can stay fit for longer than 5 minutes.

Yeah, if they see it as someone who helps guide us to promotion then the money is well worth it.

We do need some experience, but the majority of our signing will probably be up and coming at a guess.

He brings a bit of everthing we have required the last 2 years, we are going to need 5/6 midfielders over the course of
a season, Trybull Dougall and Virtue will all be needed. Norburn is worth every penny. Hope we get him.

Sort of solid CM you build a team around. Will do the dirty stuff that lets other players thrive and hopefully brings the leadership in the middle of the park we’ve been lacking. Basically Keith Southern. How we stumbled upon Keith all those years ago and managed to keep hold of him is a real mystery.

If we are happy to pay £350k for a 30 year old who’s recently recovered from a long term injury I think it shows Sadlers willing to spend more than some are giving him credit for.
