Odds on Truss lasting?

No surprise to see 'efficiencies', ie cuts to the public sector.

What have they been doing for 12 years to overlook 'efficiencies'?

Deflection as usual. Meanwhile bankers bonuses unlimited.

Her sacking Kwarteng is the same as a ventriloquist getting rid of the dummy because they don't like what it said.
Bankers bonus’s being unlimited is actually bad for most bankers.

When you work it out, let us all know or I will explain when you admit you don’t get it 👍

I suspect your argument is that if bonuses are limited they increase the basic salaries for bankers to compensate.

So if bonuses are unlimited that should push down the basic salary and the “real earners” are rewarded on performance.

I’m not persuaded.

Leaving aside the daft decisions “real earners” might make to make short term profits (to achieve their bonuses) but which result in medium to long term losses - it’s basically a sales pitch used by senior bankers to justify their higher salaries and/or bonuses depending on the day of the week.

I don't know what the blue rinses in the shires must be thinking. She spends weeks on the campaign trail promising she will do A, B, and C. And ends up not doing any of them.

She's caused possibly irreparable damage to her Party and to the country's reputation in the space of a few weeks. If her back benchers have any gumption they will fall on their collective sword and bring her down before she can make it any worse.

Christopher Chope was on TV earlier.

He is/was a Liz supporter. But couldn’t decide where he stood now.

Disappointed at her lack of resolve to see the unfunded tax cuts through.

But critical of his Parliamentary colleagues who he described as “hyenas” for trying to bring her down.

From the little I followed in the Tory leadership race Sunak was saying “tax cuts yes; but not now or you’ll spook the markets”.

Truss was saying “Tax cuts now. A race for growth”.

We now seem to have Truss reluctantly pushing Sunak’s policies.

As Truss’s heroine said “You can’t buck the markets”.

Not surprised, he was on Newsnight last night saying effectively saying there's no chance that Truss and Quarteng would uturn.

Less than 18 hours on and he's added to a growing list of MPs made to look rather foolish on TV by the last two PMs. Although to be fair to Chope he doesn't need anyone's help to look foolish.

The whole approach this last few weeks has been like a school project going badly wrong. I've no idea who told them that borrowing to fund tax cuts was in any way a sane idea.

A recurring feature of my entire life has been of Governments sacrificing long-term planning and policy making on the altar of political expediency. They can't blame the civil servants for that.

But are doing implicitly by saying we'll need to find 'efficiencies ' slashing budgets to justify their idiocy.

Parliament needs a Christopher Chope. Just to show that any old bizarre idiot can be elected.

I think it was the whole “We are mavericks and don’t believe in orthodoxy and stale boring thinking” thingy.

And they all agreed with each other. So that was good and deserved a big 👍

But it didn’t survive first contact with reality.

I can see Kier and all the other opposition MP's praying that the Tories get rid and get someone half decent in. They must be desperate not to take over the country at the moment, it's completely fucked, I mean really fucked. Maybe the Tories are doing this on purpose so they can get the fuck out and let someone else deal with the catastrophe that is Great Britain!! 🙈 🙃

On an aside, I was in Norfolk a few weeks ago having a meeting with a supplier, a canny business woman. She said she saw Truss quite a lot when she was MP there and she used to ask this lady for advice. She was horrified that she was likely to become PM as she wouldn't't trust her to sit on a bog seat the right way round. Why did the tories push her to the top of the tree? It's madness.

Boris, may have been economical with the truth, but I do not think you could include Truss and economy in the same sentence, unless it was she fcuked it up big style. Hopefully she will walk across to the Labour benches, as she has done a sterling job for them.

I kind of feel sorry watching someone in the cross hairs completely out of their depth in every aspect. She really hasn't done anything to help herself. Rather than sacking Johnson's ministers and hiring her own mates she could have created a cabinet drafting in some old "slightly" more respected old faces that have been there, done that who would have covered all views of the back benches. But no. She didn't listen to anyone. Jobs for pals and bizarre policies. Then chuck under the bus your closest ally. She is toast.

What a job. I wonder if she's sleeping tonight?

I don’t feel sorry for her Mac. She went for the top job, wanted the kudos , was adamant she could do better, too deluded to listen to anyone else then throws a close pal under the bus to save her own skin and because of her own fiscal policies. What a charmer.

What do they say ‘ everyone gets promoted to their level of incompetence ‘ think she exceeded expectations there.

The accountability is on her and she’s too narcissistic to own it.

Boris will be p*** ing himself.

I do agree with you really. It's just uncomfortable viewing watching someone completely out of their depth floundering desperately. But as you say - her own ego took her there. She can live and die on her own sword.

If she showed some kind of acknowledgement of culpability I would maybe have a teeny bit of sympathy for her, and it is uncomfortable to watch, I agree.

But she hasn’t shown traits other than selfish and deluded ones, so for those reasons, I’m out 😏

What we cannot afford is the return of the lying showman. That shouldn’t be an option but I fear that is the reality, we need a leader who puts the country first and not themselves.
I don’t think there is a precedence or appetite for going backwards and it really would make no sense at all 😳

From that clip it appears that loads of Tory MPs are against Truss.
In that case, how TF was she elected in the first place?

Bizarre situation now as the Chancellor actually has more power than the PM.

Jeremy Hunt is the de-facto leader of the UK. That's where we are.

I get what you’re saying about feeling a bit sorry for her, but we must remember empathy is a classic trait of “wokeism” something Truss is hell-bent on waging a war against given the chance.
So, on reflection, it’s definitely not ok to feel sorry for her at all! 😎.

Farage has a lot to answer for. A money grabber (subsequently been proven to be factual) whose sole aim in life was to attach himself to any cause that would maximise his profile and hence make himself a ton of cash. He hit a rich seam with the EU/immigrant cause which in turn appealed to a certain Tory voter, opened up the sores in the tory Party and this is the end result. Never forgot this political instability has happened due the brexit vote. The tories morphed into UKIP with the brainless ERG running the show, with each leader/home secretary lurching to the right aiming their fake wrath at wokeness and desperate people risking their lives in boats.

The people who voted for Truss want someone who’s a bit dim in charge. They can convince them to push their agenda through. They want British politics to mirror the USA where the leader is just a figurehead.

Unfo they managed to convince a lot of Labour voters too that the EU were somehow responsible for illegal immigrants coming in from Africa

These two quotes say it all

David Gauke, a former ministerial colleague, says the country will be in for an interesting time if Truss, the restless radical, prevails: “She will want to challenge the received wisdom — even if the received wisdom is almost certainly correct.”

"She’s light on her feet,” says Nadine Dorries, a cabinet minister and Truss supporter, referring to the foreign secretary’s ability to bamboozle her opponent with policy positions often at odds with political orthodoxy and — on occasion — with her own record.

It is unlikely that there will be a GE before Jan 2025 although many in this country would like to see a change in government before that date and the chances of the present lot to turning things around by then with so many issues that need to be resolved an unlikely event.
Naturally people would think that Labour would be in with a possible majority similar to the present government but I do wonder if the LibDems might actually do very well, with them looking to rejoin the EU and the real possibility of a mass exodus from conservative voters not qiuite ready to embrace Labour but equally dissatisfied with their own party.
Of course getting through the next two years will be something, the NHS already under extreme pressure, N Ireland situation to be resolved, homelessness in the UK with thousands in temporary accomodation such as b and b's, rising food and energy costs, the cost of buying a home rocketing, independence for Scotland and more can be added to the list.
You have to ask who in their right mind would want to be PM.
The next couple of years in UK politics should be interesting, there will be twists and turns month by month i would imagine and by Jjan 25 the Libdems might just spring a surprise.
