How long will Liz Truss last before the Tory Grandees etc. decides to bin her?

It’s slowly but surely looking like she might not be in place next week Dave.

Cameras already at Heathrow airport looking for Kwarteng’s disembarkation from his plane from the US.
Most passengers already off but no sign of him looks like he putting a yellow vest on and passing as a airside baggage handler to avoid the press. 🤣

The PM has already called a press conference for this afternoon is she announcing the sacking of the Chancellor?

Embarrassing if that’s the case after just 2 weeks ago solidly backing both him and the mini budget.

They come as a pair. They hold the same principles and policies. If one goes the other has to but Truss is a snake and will hang him out to dry if she thinks it will save her skin Which personally I doubt.
TBH the people who chose her and Johnson shoul never be allowed near a leadership contest ever again. After this debacle there has to be a general election. The voters have the right to choose. They may not always get it right but at least it’s democratic.

We can be sure of one thing, Truss will sacrifice Kwartang if she has to do that to save her own skin. But it will still be difficult for her to do this since she has spent weeks briefing the press that her and the chancellor are in 'lock-step'. I would guess that the parliamentary party wouldn't like this much either and may get rid of her as well if she tries this.

She should have never been allowed to run as a candidate, never mind to actually get the top job.

The Prime Minister / Leader should be a decision for the elected politicians in the Tory party and not some random group of so members.

The system has now left us stuck with a complete incompetent. Personally I think the best thing for the country and the party is to get her out and replaced asap and then have plenty of time to move on.

Sounds like the Press Conference this pm might be only to announce the freezing of Corporation tax?
Will that be enough to stem the market turbulence though?
It could end up being like pulling the legs off a spider.

It's not like we didn't know she was shite. How thick must the Tory members be to not see it.

Reports are that corporation tax will be increased to 21/22% and I would guess KK will stay. Rumours are that a Richi/Penny ticket is being pushed.

Kwartang to be sacked is the latest rumour - he will not be at the press conference with Truss later.
Who will / would replace him?

Fairly obvious he would be sacrificed - they've got to stick with Truss otherwise it's even worse for them. Not sure who they've got to be a good chancellor barring getting Sunak back.

The problem the Tories have is their most credible / popular candidate is the one they got rid of: Boris.
Not impressed by any of the other candidates and Truss isn’t PM material.
She might have got away with it, backed by better people, but the poor selection of say, the Chancellor, will be too much for the Tories to get past this.
Ffs just call a General Election and let the public decide.

Gypsy Tipsy says” Boris to make a return to captain the team and make a double century majority at the next GE”.👍👍🏏

Jeremy Hunt new chancellor being rumoured
Would be interesting - a one nation type of Tory who has had a few big jobs in the past
Just shows what she will do to cling to power - he is definitely not in the ERG cabal like the rest of the cabinet

That would shock me!

Old Kwasi has just had his resignation letter read out and he is really positive about Truss.

Think of the positives though, new opportunities for under 11's to be chimney sweeps and earn a crust etc, he'd be full of great Victorian initiatives to get the economy moving.
Return of the Florin and the Farthing and then later the Denarii.

Number 11 Downing Street renamed XI.

Spreadsheets replaced by abacuses.

Nanny annex built in XI Downing Street.

Tax relief introduced for morning suits.

Bob Cratchit given junior minister position.

She'll claim it was all his doing and she knew nothing about it.
He'll go back to his billionaire buddy Crispin Odin on a nice fat salary.
She's fcked and the Tories know it, she's gonna get the titles of both worst and shortest PM in history.

Would be very short sighted for Sunak to take it, why take the posioned chalice now? He's only 42 and after the Tories are destroyed in the next election will be seen as their David Miliband, the one they all clamour for who they believe should have been picked.

I'd be surprised if it was Hunt but she has probably been given an ultimatum by rebel MPs, he isn't really her sort of guy is he?
Hunt is quite centralist in comparison and doesn’t really have a financial background.

Personally it would be madness; I cannot believe what is happening in such a great country.

We look like a Banana Republic 👎

Dear, oh dear. Whichever way you roll the Tory Party at the moment it lands on the clusterfuck square.
* A Tory leader becomes PM on the basis of a vote 142k people, of which she gained 81k.
* She introduces an economic policy at variance with that of the Johnson Government - immediately giving her no mandate.
* She puts her economic soulmate (Kwarteng) in charge of implementing the policy that they worked on together.
* The policy is introduced via a mini-budget over which the Cabinet had no input and which was denied external scrutiny by the OBR.
* The policy spooked the markets and forced the Bank of England to intervene.
* Truss sacks the man she appointed to implement their shared economic vision.
* Tory MPs who continue to support the policy will have the knives out for Truss if she U-turns.
* Sunak-wing MPs will have the knives out for Truss if she continues to steer the same course.
* Truss is a lame-duck PM with an 80 seat majority!!
* If Truss is replaced as PM, what will be that person's mandate, what will be their democratic authority and what will that say to the country?
