Odds on Truss lasting?

It is unlikely that there will be a GE before Jan 2025 although many in this country would like to see a change in government before that date and the chances of the present lot to turning things around by then with so many issues that need to be resolved an unlikely event.
Naturally people would think that Labour would be in with a possible majority similar to the present government but I do wonder if the LibDems might actually do very well, with them looking to rejoin the EU and the real possibility of a mass exodus from conservative voters not qiuite ready to embrace Labour but equally dissatisfied with their own party.
Of course getting through the next two years will be something, the NHS already under extreme pressure, N Ireland situation to be resolved, homelessness in the UK with thousands in temporary accomodation such as b and b's, rising food and energy costs, the cost of buying a home rocketing, independence for Scotland and more can be added to the list.
You have to ask who in their right mind would want to be PM.
The next couple of years in UK politics should be interesting, there will be twists and turns month by month i would imagine and by Jjan 25 the Libdems might just spring a surprise.
2024, whitstable. Last GE was 2019

What, you think they’ll offer to go into coalition with the Tories?

I
He might be labelled that, but in reality, after completely rewriting the economic policy, Hunt is the de facto PM.

It feels a bit like an administrator coming in to wind up a business to me.
The tone of what he says is very much:

“We’re going to salvage what we can, but it is all going to be very difficult, and you’re all going to be worse off and some of you will lose your jobs”.

Every time the Tories appoint another PM, he or she is a downgrade on the previous one. With that in mind, it's mind boggling and really quite horrifying to think who might take over from Truss. She is so far out of her depth it's actually humiliating for the country.
I don't think there is anyone available that could save them from being wiped out at the next GE, they've been that bad.

Hunt to make statement later today, predicted that the 1p cut in basic rate income tax will be deferred until 2024. The only thing left is the energy £2,500 cap, which probably would have been done in some form whoever won the leadership contest.

They’ll have to get rid of Truss sooner rather than later.

Hopefully a windfall tax will be announced later down the line and the massive bill for the price cap can get taken off the books (partially) as well.

Worryingly, rumours now that the price cap on energy could go, that will be unbelievably stupid and have serious consequences for millions of people.
It would have to be replaced with cash handouts perhaps from the proceeds of a windfall tax - maybe he is going full reverse-ferret. Get the bad news out of the way early and give the markets some confidence that there is an adult in the room

It could be a more targetted approach where a typical (+say 15%) usage is capped and any usage over this amount isn't. Could encourage higher users (who probably can financially afford it) to possibly cut back on their usage (eg not heating swimming pool, etc).

There are also some other anomalies that could be looked at. For example it looks like my mother-in-law will get an additional payment as she is on pension credit but she is in a care home so is isolated from the impact of higher energy costs.

So Truss beat Sunak by offering lower taxes. Now she is planning to have taxes higher than Sunak was offering (the 1p cut in basic tax rate from 2024 seems to be done away with).

Absolutely untenable that she can stay.

So it’s going from April apart from those on benefits and the lowest of incomes.

That means most of us on that finely balanced line working hard but not rolling in it will be the ones to pay the price every which way again 😡

It sounded like Hunt wanted to do a deal with the energy producers to limit the price at which they sell to the UK. Plenty of room for a profit margin for them but more reasonable prices to the consumer. It's a windfall tax in a roundabout way. Wouldn't be surprised to see this mentioned on Haloween.

Well I hope he can achieve that, otherwise some of us in the working bracket are going to find it extremely difficult to afford our bills from next April.

I guess we’ll have to wait and see, there’ll be plenty of lobbying going on from various groups, and who knows what Liz Truss’s replacement will do, and possibly Jeremy Hunt Gone as well.

To me it looks like she is having a sort of breakdown. She wouldn't address parliament despite having the opportunity. This is not leadership, everyone can see that. She has no authority, the game is up. Gone within two weeks probably before the end of this one. Expect another disasterous PMQs if she turns up. She looks shell shocked. Good bye and Good night.

When she finally turned up in the commons, she didn’t look compos mentis Imo. Maybe we could be hearing of some undisclosed illness soon, which could be a convenient get out clause. I really can’t see her doing PMQs again to be honest.

She needs to go now, the tories need to put aside divisions on who to replace her, because anyone will be better
No. The Tories need to go now. Unelected PM (2) with polar opposite economic policies within it's ranks who really doesn't know what it's doing from one day to the next u turn.

How can any Government bring forward policies of such magnitude and then reverse them. Listening the people and markets is total utter horseshit. Any Government of any persuasion who puts policy in motion without actually looking fully into what it will do, means and will impact is frankly not fit to head a tour group around Westminster.

Imagine if they were in charge of a conflict.

A manifesto aimed at 150,000 Tory members now completely overturned. Never mind no mandate from the General public, she doesn't have one from her own party.

Don't forget, she barely got enough MPs to get her into the members' vote.

Lame duck? Dead duck with the orange sauce coming to the boil.

Said exactly the same thing to Fr Bayern, not giving a reason for non attendance in the Chamber until just before the Chancellor got up was unbelievable and little wonder Penny Whatsherface got so much stick from the opposite benches! She’s definitely a broken person!

Completely agree, she looks zombiefied, maybe tranqued up. Time to go, you are out of your depth and the country needs leadership.

I’m sure you know that a general election is not going to happen anytime soon, no party with polls showing a devastating defeat, aren’t going to commit suicide.

Whatever I feel about the disaster, she has been, as a Human being I think it looks like she needs to move on for her health, and I hope she does.

She’s like a rabbit in the headlights. Tories are not my choice, but it fails to make any sense why they put her into a 2 horse race. Will she resign or burst into tears ( then resign)

There’s a good number of Tory MPs who are resigned to a period in opposition.

The focus might now have switched to “Saving the Tory Party for future battles”.

Pray 🙏 for Trammo 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧

The focus has always been on the Tory party .... BJ saw to the next election defeat...members were “encouraged” to elect LT, someone gullible enough not realise what their up to!
Labour will walk the next election but face a nigh on impossible task .... people forget too easily .... the Tories will have a new broom, led by Penny and Rishi ... in my opinion that’s the game their playing... don’t give a shit about the country.

I’m not sure they are that clever to be honest.

Although I can see they’d put that spin on losing.

“Ooh look how shrewd we are!!”.

Whereas the last couple of weeks would suggest. Not. Shrewd. At all.

...I get that... guess we’ll find out how many careers are taken down with this shit show..... and who the shit avoids.
