Keir Starmer fully confident re Rayner

Only 27.2% of Swiss GDP is taken by tax, of which only 1% is from wealth taxes, and there appears to be plenty of ways around it, so very few people actually end up paying it.
36 per cent when you factor in medical costs and that 1 per cent is a lot of money. The Swiss tax system is progressive rather than low. Its also far better governed than the UK at least for now.

Are you saying that the DPM defrauding the state is not something that at least some posters on here might be in?

Or is it a case of:

Or couldn't give a shit. Why are you surprised? I know you're hoping that this story will help your beloved Tories cling to power but it won't. I voted Tory.last election but not this time. I'm not bothering as they are all a bunch of twats

If it wasn't a story, then Angie would've published the advice, done a mea culpa (if needed), paid the tax and killed the story two months ago.

If it wasn't a story, the left wing press wouldn't be writing stories about it not being a story.

If it wasn't a story, you wouldn't be posting on here.

If it wasn't a story, then Angie wouldn't be lying so transparently about where she lived.

It's a story, and it's not going away.

Wrong AGAIN! Improvements to a property such as an extension or kitchen upgrade ARE allowable expenses which offset liability to CGT.
Improvements yes, however a simple like for like replacement, would be viewed as maintenance, and wouldn't be allowable.

Could you post photographs of Angela’s kitchen both before and after the works please. So we can judge for ourselves whether it’s an improvement or just maintenance.

Linky linky please. Or ask one of your juniors to do it. And if you can’t manage that blame a civil servant. Or as Liz Truss would do…. The Blob/The Global Marxist conspiracy that controls all media plus the internet.

As I heard it, the original fitted kitchen was in a right state, but that has been misquoted as fixed by the Deep State.

Forum won't let me post photos, but here's a linky that shows the after result: https://order-order.com/2024/04/18/rayner-claims-kitchen-renovation-offset-all-of-her-tax-liability/

We don't know what the state was before, but I reckon there's about £1,500 (2010 prices) of materials in there, so hard to argue that it's an improvement, and even if it was, it isn't going to extinguish the CGT liability.

Labour (work, not party) might add to the cost, but I could've probably done that by myself in a couple of days, so not a huge amount, her brother apparently is good at DIY, so my guess is he was involved, and it looks like a good DIY job rather than anything else.

Note also that the hob/oven is freestanding, so won't count against CGT, the same applies to all the other white goods, so all that might qualify is the worktop, wall/base units, sink and possibly tiling.

It's noticeable that all the "leftists" can do on this thread is throw around insults and slurs, if there was nothing in this story then surely even they could do so much better.

This is not going away.

And why I was here in the first place: https://www.thetimes.co.uk/article/...-over-smashed-window-says-neighbour-f5z7dd5rt

Angela Rayner confronted her neighbours demanding £240 and calling herself “the landlady” after a window was smashed at the property she claims had been her principal house, police were told yesterday.

It doesn't really tell us much, it was a 2015 incident, but the key point is that this is the Times, and is from today.

This story is not going away.

Yep, reap what you sow

Lost Seasider is very lost. AR seems to have got into his head.
Some perspective in the article below

Lost indeed.

There’s a certain sort of bloke who is triggered by strong independent women, especially those who’ve come from a background of poverty rather than privilege and made something of their lives.

Someone wrote to the Times recently describing these attacks on Rayner as “One of the most grotesque spectacles of hypocrisy I have witnessed…… I suppose that her attackers cannot bear the idea that they are about to lose to a woman who pulled herself up by her bootstraps”.

Which commie Marxist fellow traveller could write such a thing? Why none other than former Tory MP Nick Boles.

😂 Guido Fawkes.

Yeah there’ll be no doubt that’s genuine then, if it’s been produced by someone as impartial and unbiased as Good Old Guido.

Desperate stuff Lost. Even by your standards.

I have never seen such blatant deflection on any discussion, if that is the right word, on this board.

The initial question was about AR but somehow the water has been muddied by bringing a separate subject, which has it's own thread, about the MP for Fylde.

In my book both deserve to be investigated and I would hazard a guess that both are culpable of what they are accused of, but I await to see what the investigations bring up and don't intend to become involved in a ya boo sucks conversation.

Can't undestand why AR couldn't have published ages ago the legal advice and other evidence to show she was innocent? 🤔

It's pretty simple to me.

1) There is a police investigation going on.
2) Angela Rayner is confident that she has not committed any offence.
3) Angela Rayner has said she will resign if she is found to have committed any offence.

Not much point in getting all het up about until the police have completed their investigations.

Why does that rule only apply to Labour politicians.

Also:
Angela Rayner is confident that she has not committed any offence.
She has claimed that she is confident, that does not mean she is telling the truth.

that's very amusing. The looney left wing on here can't wait to spit feathers at anything and everythng as soon as it breaks in the media.

But this board has never been a level playing field.

I’d be disappointed to see any Labour senior minister or MP who has fiddled the state for £20k

At least have some bloody ambition Ange - Menzies managed to blag way more than that just to cover his rent boy and drugs fetishes. Benton got hundreds of £k from betting companies without trying.

These working class Oiks just don’t know how to feed from the trough properly even after 14 years of being schooled by the best.

Any MP, of any political persuasion, who fiddles the state for any amount, should be gone. I’d lose my job for less I’m sure, so yeah.
These people are supposed to support the public and those in need.
Not rob from them.

No excuses.
The expenses scandal only proved one thing some are just money grabbing barstewards.

Bleat on how their wages are poor yet employ their partners have second homes and claim for every damn thing.

AR is confident that she's done no wrong.
KS is just as confident that she hasn't.
Before going public with such statements, I'd be amazed if they hadn't interrogated their advisors, to ensure AR has crossed her T's and dotted her I's.
KS is a barrister & former attorney general, who's whole career was built on paying attention to detail, sticking to facts & never winging anything.
Time will tell and I have been 'amazed' & wrong many times before 🤣
Would anyone have like to be cross examined by a top KC like you say the attention to every comma and paragraph is essential. Love to see Starmer in the commons with his syrup on.

Nothing new is there?

  • A parliamentary committee has launched an inquiry after it emerged that some people who had been nominated for peerages by Blair had given Labour large loans before the 2005 election. The affair has been widened to include loans to the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats.
  • Home Secretary Charles Clarke has faced calls to quit after he acknowledged 1,023 foreign prisoners had been released when they should have been considered for deportation after they served their term. Unfortunately for Clarke, several of the released prisoners re-offended.
  • Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott, a bullish man who once punched a heckler for throwing eggs in the 2001 election campaign, has been humiliated by revelations of a two-year affair with his diary secretary Tracey Temple, 43. She has alleged that sexual encounters took place in Prescott's office with the door ajar while a team of civil servants worked outside. Government departments are now to conduct an enquiry into whether Prescott abused his position amid claims that Ms Temple was chauffeur-driven in government cars to and from their tête-à-têtes. Mr Prescott has accused her of exaggerating the details to make money from newspapers.
  • A newspaper reported that the Labour Party spent $13,700 on hair-styling bills for Blair's wife Cherie during last year's month-long general election campaign.
  • Culture Minister Tessa Jowell overcame weeks of negative press coverage in March over prosecutors' claims that former Italian PM Silvio Berlusconi paid her husband David Mills for helpful testimony in two court cases. Mills denies wrong-doing.
Taken together, the headlines have created the impression of a government in crisis. Infighting over education reform hasn't helped, nor has continuing criticism of the performance of the National Health Service, one of the key areas of Labour policy.

The situation has reached the point where MPs and cabinet ministers have been embarrassed to face voters and local councillors campaigning ahead of Thursday's local election, the first major electoral test for Blair since last year's general election, writes Polly Toynbee, a political commentator for the left-leaning Guardian newspaper.
She quoted one unnamed minister as saying, "Our moral authority has collapsed. It's everything from Cherie's hair to cash for peerages, from Tessa's offshore mortgages to John Prescott's trousers. They think we abuse power and it's no good listing all we have delivered. It only makes them rage. They accuse us of arrogance and corruption and it leaves you silenced."

To No3...she stated 'criminal' offence. It seems if she commits any Parliamentary offence, she wont do

Hmmm...........

A post of mine has disappeared, where I alluded to what I think Ms Rayner might be guilty of, I can't think what rule that could possibly have breached, I wonder why.

Not a problem, this isn't the only site I post on
