I decided to wait to this morning before reflecting on last night's match.
For the first 20 minutes our tactics were spot on. We pressed high up, we got players and the ball forward quickly through midfield and could have been 2 up, with good saves from their keeper. Those were definitely the right tactics against a physically big side. We then changed our own tactics, playing much deeper and that tediios, slow possession football across our back line or back to the keeper. Far too much back passing. That allowed the oppostion to fill the midfield and press us high up, meaning we lost our forward momentum and our passing and defence was constantly squeezed. Our distribution from the back and from Maxwell was poor last night, especially when we were not using midfield. Why we did that change was a mystery to me, as it seemed to be a change we made rather than one was imposed by the oppostion.
Our fullbacks were all over the place last night and gave away some very silly fouls, I thought Gabriel had a poor game. Our defence looks more solid when Turton plays. In midfield Embleton and Dougall were below par and wasted a number of moves because of poor passing.
I know that our bench hasn't got a lot of options because the number of injuries we have got, but I will criticide NC for not throwing on Mitchell and / or Robson to shake things up and try to make something happen. To me that showed some lack of real intent to try to win the game, especially after we threw away 2 points against Lincoln. And there have been a number of other home games which could have been converted from draws to wins with a bit more ambition and intent.
Our last 2 draws have given the chasing pack a sniff of a chnce now and if we don't start winning at home on Saturday they will really be smelling blood
