Blackpool v Accrington Stanley Official Matchnight Thread 13.04.21

OK we didn't play well, and we needed to. But Accrington aren't bottom, they're not getting thumped every week, they are mid-table and only 7 points behind us, they are no ones mugs.
They are coming back after a poor result just like they did when they went to Oxford and won!
We have a point that we didn't have when we kicked off which is more than Sunderland got tonight.
We are not a shite team, we just can't win every game, let's hope for better next time out

Pool unable to lift their game, and the lack of quality exposed again at home. It's a point but the performance was, in the main, very poor. Some players looked half asleep.

Must win for Accrington’s season and they come and sit in, pathetic from them.

We were very poor tonight but had 2 guilt edged opportunities that Kai Kai hit straight at the keeper on both occasions.

Looking forward to a team coming to Bloomfield Rd at the weekend who will try to beat us. Should play right into our hands.

What a position we are in with 7 games to go.

Looks to subs bench, nothing there attacking wise. He would have been better taking off aims and putting another midfielder on.. very frustrating again

Constant poor decision making from every man in Tangerine tonight and clearly not enough movement off of the ball as Maxwell, Gretarsson and Ballard have had to pass it between themselves most of the game. Embleton was poor tonight. Kai Kai is a brilliant player when he wants to be but was not at it at all tonight. Jerry looked off the pace too. Simms tried hard but he’s a little too inexperienced to play successfully against the likes of Accy.

My biggest gripe all season has been that we often carry the players who can give us a few moments of brilliance for the other 89 minutes of a game. Kai Kai has been that player quite a lot this season and tonight he’s done it again. Embleton the same.

If we’re to be successful this season or next we need to increase competition out wide. I’d have had them both off on 60/65 mins but Critch doesn’t have the luxury atm.

I still massively rate our chances.

No surprise really. We struggle against big, ugly teams and Coleman knew that if he closed down our midfield we would lump the ball to their big defenders. In a game like that you need a bit of luck, like Garbutt's terrific shot going in instead of coming back off the post.

A lot of panic in here.

We would have won that if Kaikai was more clinical. They were setup to stifle us and showed little ambition, after getting panned at the weekend, Coleman clearly wanted then working hard to get a clean sheet at any cost.

We are unbeaten in 15, 5th in the league and our goal difference is in good shape. Once we get some players back from injury we'll be able to change games like that and turn it into wins.

Worst referee for a very long time.
Accringtons game was shithousery all night. Feigning injury twice wasting a good 5 minutes. Falling and time wasting, but the ref allowed it.
Ref completely ruined the game with 200 unnecessary free kicks including 3 for us when we had the advantage.
Shocking result and Simms looked like he has had enough.

That match was too close. A few good attacking moves, some wrong choices by Sullay, too many back passes when in attacking positions, a very poor penalty and a save, in the end a point was about deserved. Onwards to Saturday, but improvement is needed.

Games like that you have to take chances. Sully will be disappointed, he’s hit both straight at the keeper, but hey, it happens.

We knew it would be horrible to watch and it was. We didn’t move the ball quickly and our midfield needs to be braver, too often they went back & sideways, but there was little movement in front of them. We have to learn how to deal with teams like this, as we’ve failed too often at home.

We’ve applied our own pressure, when a win would have created a nice gap. Big test ahead.

Thin fit squad giving few options. Not sure he wanted to change and risk a sub taking time to get up to speed with that sort of pressure

was hopeful we would stuff them but always had the thought the tonight would be an attritional slog fest. you have to give Accy a bit of credit they just didnt let us play. we had opportunities and any other day the keeper wouldnt have got to them but he had a bit worldy as well.

its another point but saturday might be another where we have to find something a bit special, Sunderland two games lost and will be looking to make amends

Yates and Simms seemer to be the only players capable of controlling an aerial ball and not giving it away. Everyone else happy to play head tennis and lose posession. Far too much of this ruined the game for me. That and an absolutely atrocious referee.

What are these officials about .allowing teams to take as long as they like while walking 50 yards as slow as they like to take a throw in ,not a sign to hurry up.then allows 3 mins injury time ,should have been nearer 10 mins.why o why does he not throw Brad Holmes on ,he couldn’t be any worse

We are really careless at times with our short passing and in those last 30 seconds Embleton and Dougall still tapped it around when the ball needed to go into the box.

I only saw the last 20 minutes so can’t pass much judfenentIt’s games like this that highlight how short we are with attacking options to change the game.

Quality from Maxwell.

Also a special mention for good old Chisnall. Embleton is down and he names about three players who he thinks it is and all wrong. He is absolutely clueless that guy, I also think he posts on the board because he hates Kaikai!

Dougall Ward Kaikai and Embleton were absolutely off it tonight. Coupled with Accrington's tactics meant a very stale game.

They offer roughly nothing in attack. I can't think of a decent attacking play they had where I was worried. A penalty that shouldn't have been.

Draw was a fair result but we did have the better chances.

Very poor from us, but let's not pretend that Accy were trying to play football. Competing with Gillingham for the most shithousery this season. Their tactic is to frustrate, and it worked but we're 100% a better side than they are, despite the draw.
We're still not streetwise enough, we allowed them to frustrate us really and played right into their hands. Despite the unbeaten run continuing our players still do have a lot to learn. League one is full of similar teams, Shrewsbury, Burton are another two and we must find a way to start beating these sides if we're going to make the playoffs this season. I worry that five of our seven games left are against lower half sides and they will deploy a similar tactic. We should be learning to be wise to this by now.

We had chances tonight but unfortunately we saw the poor Kaikai tonight, which is a shame. Grant Ward good tonight and Gretarsson also very good I thought, and Maxwell deserves a mention of course for the great pen save.
I think tonight showed, much like Saturday, that we desperately need some players back. If we could just get Anderson and Madine back it would make a huge difference, because I do have some doubts as to whether this same eleven can sustain this run. More for the fact that if opposing side develop a tactic to nullify us, we just can't bring on something different. I know Mitchell was on the bench tonight but i'm not sure he would be actually something different, whereas Madine would be.

Three points inside the top six, and 15 unbeaten (just) yet it feels like we keep passing up good opportunities to cement a top six place and make things easy for ourselves. As per the norm for Blackpool.

All the moaners on top form tonight I noticed! Yes we didn’t play well but ffs some of the comments, I’d ** hate to be anywhere near them at a game!
Apparently unless you worship the ground Critchley walks on and cheer his every decision you are a moaner. And I here’s me thinking if you have your own opinion you are allowed to express it on a football message board. Tut tut silly me, I will consider myself severely chastised and promise to be different.

Bollux

Thinking about how we played against them last time, I thought they were the better team on the day, and the need to rotate and keep it fresh a possible team would be
Maxwell
Gabriel Ballard Gretarrsson Husband
Ward Robson
Mitchell Embleton Kaikai
Yates
If needed it means Simms, Dougall and Garbutt could make an impact coming off the bench, we had no game changers as subs on Saturday, and we have defensive cover from Ekpiteta and Turton.
Also this lineup stops us being outnumbered in midfield like we were at their place and gives some key players a breather.
Obviously all depends on Mitchell being fit.
Well that has just confirmed what I thought, they would be too hard to beat playing with a more predictable 4 4 2 and the lack of options is meaning we can't make telling substitutions and some of our lads are looking tired in the last 20 minutes.

Ignore posts like that mate. I comment on what I see and sail by the wind. It was a very frustrating evening but we had real straight forward bread and butter chances missed so nowt to be chirping about performance wise. It's a match thread comments section.

Ignore pompous superfan types and say what you like.

I wonder if Mitchell is properly fit. He'd have beena decent option to change things upfront tonight.

It's an obvious lack of quality particularly in midfield. Dougall hasn't got a decent pass in his locker, hopefully Stewart will soon be back to replace him. Young players like Embleton and Simms will be inconsistent and struggle playing twice a week.

We just can’t beat this lot my 5-0 prediction proved a little rash. But Kaikai really should have put that chance away with his left foot which would have been better with his body shape. Automatic a bridge too far now. At least Maxi kept our unbeaten run going.
I think we saw the other side of KK tonight. Missed two near sitters, looked like his eyes were closed for the header and his free kick was like playing catch with their keeper. Horrible match.

Maxwell 8 Gabriel 5 Gretterson 5 Ballard 6 Garbutt 7 Ward 6 Dougall 5 Embleton 5 Kaikai 5 Simms 5 Yates 5

Far too one dimensional for me. If the practised through balls aren't on it just goes backwards. Sometimes players have to think on their feet and come up with something new. Perhaps ours are being over-trained in a certain style.

They are a horrible team to play against and they had the bit between their teeth after the big loss to Wimbledon. We always struggle against them we don't like facing teams like that. Another point, we move on.

I don’t agree about Dougall as he can be very effective. But he did struggle tonight. Once or twice he took the ball on the turn and it opened Accy up - it’s a real shame he can’t do it more often.

I always felt this was not going to go our way tonight. Ward played well and seems to be growing into that position. Excellent save from maxi all be it straight at him. The referee was ** atrocious but I’m not going to blame him or Accrington’s shithousery . We looked tired after about 10 minutes and never really got going. Sunderland may comes at a tough time for us injury wise but On to Saturday we go.
