Blackpool v Accrington Stanley Official Matchnight Thread 13.04.21

Feels like a classic trap game.

Accy have been battered twice in recent weeks and look to just about be eliminated from Playoff contention so they really don't have much to play for anymore while we have everything to play for which makes me believe it'll be a tough tough game for us.

I'll take a nervy 1-0, but wouldn't mind an easy 3-0!

My worry is that there could be a bit of a hangover from the Lincoln game. To dominate a game like that, go two goals up and draw, must have been really deflating for the players.
Having said that, for 75 minutes we were absolutely outstanding, if we can repeat that in the coming games, we're play off bound.

Let's take out our anger at conceding on Saturday by giving them a walloping. TBH they've been doing pretty well until of late. I'll change my usual prediction of 2-1 to 5-0 Simms 15 minutes. 😬

I’m sure there will be nerves, but we need to go out guns blazing and make it count. Take our chances and score more than two. Attack, chase, overwhelm, press.

My worry with this one is that NC has been able to make changes all season and keep players fresh, he has not been able to do that lately, we play at a very high intensity without the ball and this for me would of been an ideal game to make a couple of changes in the midfield to rest some legs.

Because he failed to score on Saturday, Yates will be on a mission and I predicted the other day he will get a hat trick (who was the last player to achieve that? DJ ????)
I also predicted Simms to chip in with a couple so 5 goals minimum for me.

Accrington have a very thin playing squad and a lot of injuries we need to win this one in the first half
to enable some of the fringe players and youngsters get some match time.

I don't expect anything other than a hard game. If they score before us do we have the character to turn it around? If we score first can we build on that lead? If it's tight can we see the game out without conceding late on?

I'm always glass half-full, for my sins.
I tend to look at the strengths of the opposition, instead of drawing confidence from our recent run.

They've had a good season and some creditable performances. It's possibly their last chance at progressing to playoffs, but, there again, wasn't that the case for Gillingham?

Whatever happens, we seem to be going in the right direction and I wouldn't expect the lads to be complacent at this stage

I can see this being a tough nut to crack, they are bound to try and tighten up after a mauling on Saturday, apparently the last time it happened they won their next away game at Oxford, not an easy place to win 😉.

However, if we were to score early and seriously put them under pressure, like we can, they could just fold. It doesn't really matter what the scoreline is as long as we record a win, with the Sunderland double header coming up we need to get points on the board as soon as we can, starting tonight. I'd take a scrappy 1-0 now 😬

some of their defending against Wimbledon on Sat was pathetic. Bottling out of tackles and looking completely disinterested. Long may it continue ! At least til tomorrow morning.

I'm on Ollie Turton to score at any time. 20/1 with Paddy Power.

I watched an interview with him last week, and he said he was looking to get at least one before the end of the season. I noticed on Saturday he was getting forward more than normal, and had the odd half chance in decent areas.

Come On Ollie you know it makes sense. Shoot 🤣

Accy have some good players, have been top half most of the season, and were better than us in the away match. We've improved since then, but on paper this is the third most difficult game of the eight remaining, behind the two Sunderland ones obviously. And it's another game for the same eleven who have been playing Tues-Sat-Tues for quite a few weeks now, with very few options to rest anyone.
I reckon it'll be decided by the odd goal tonight.

Should be 200/1 unless its Turton to score at any time in his career!!

After the goals we conceded on Saturday I don't the he'll be playing!

Thinking about how we played against them last time, I thought they were the better team on the day, and the need to rotate and keep it fresh a possible team would be
Maxwell
Gabriel Ballard Gretarrsson Husband
Ward Robson
Mitchell Embleton Kaikai
Yates
If needed it means Simms, Dougall and Garbutt could make an impact coming off the bench, we had no game changers as subs on Saturday, and we have defensive cover from Ekpiteta and Turton.
Also this lineup stops us being outnumbered in midfield like we were at their place and gives some key players a breather.
Obviously all depends on Mitchell being fit.

You'd have Robson in for Dougall? And Turton at left back? And one striker? That changes both our shape and our style of play.

He has only scored 2 goals in 123 games for us, so I don’t think 20/1 is very generous.😂😂

Adding to Turton. Lincoln targeted our left on Saturday which where Garbutt plays and not Turton. They must have seen that as our weakest link

Turton is on the bench for me mate. Robson isn't as good as Dougall but at what point is Dougall rested, it's called rotation.
We have played 4 2 3 1 plenty of times since the second half of Burton at home. The players are very familiar with it. We have played plenty of games without a front two.
Don't really understand any of the points you are making, nothing I have suggested is new to the team or football in general.

Turton was marking their best player on Saturday.I thought he was our man of the match, almost scored aswell.
