Whether he can do it in the Championship remains to be seen but I would say he is a younger and more mobile version of big Gaz - makes you wonder if this signing might means he moves on
 
This actually concerns me. If we get Bishop who is on their way out? If it is Jerry then I don't see it as an upgrade at all. If it is Madine, no worries

Maybe a bit of forward planning, Madine is out of contract next summer, perhaps the plan is to move him on then, so having a ready-made replacement already in place would be good business.
 
If Beesley is fit before the start of the season, I can see him going out on loan to a league 1 club just to get him some experience at that level. All depends how badly his foot was broken and when he will be back.

There's a 1 year option on it. Options work both ways and we have fallen foul in the not too distant past of playing a player often enough to trigger the one year from his perspective. Do we want that?

I'm fairly sure the option is in the club's favour, that seems to be the way we do business.

Ultimately, if the HC wants to play him regularly, then what's the problem with activating the option?

They are two separate things.

1) An option for a 1 year extension is the clubs option.
2) Automatic trigger based on appearances and I'm fairly sure since the new regime have been in we haven't seen anything like that.

I stand corrected if GM is on those terms.
 
We havenā€™t got him yet, donā€™t count your chickens, some other club could come in at the last minute like we did and nick him, or there may be difficulties over the contract etc.
 
It seems it was only yesterday we snook our bid in, if that is the case we still need to agree terms, draw up contract and sort a medical, at best it will be later this week, I would've thought.

Was in Portsmouth yesterday afternoon by all accounts, 6/7 hour drive back to us. I imagine he'd be going through all the medical & contract stuff with us today, sign it today and then get announced tomorrow? Just a guess.

It was the way he set us up.
4 4 2 consisting of 2 defensive midfielders rarely given licence to go forward.
2 wingers that tended to stay wide and rarely delivered a good cross or pass.
A target man with no pace who didn't create an assist all season.
Excessive rotation of Lavery and Yates so they never built any form or rhythm.
I'm glad critchley has gone hopefully Appleton can make the 4 3 3 work and Yates thrives.

From twitter over last 24hrs this really does look a done deal.

Hope appy gives Yates game time tonight as I honestly don't believe (if u listen to rumours) getting rid of him is the answer, needs to play in settled team which never happened under critch.
