The rumours in January had no substance and the the account which posted that transfer news of Yates to Ipswich is a fake account, I think Jerry's post on Instagram will show you he loves this place and wont leave

Think this move is more so to account for MA viewing Lavery as a LW/inside forward type player instead of a natural striker who plays down the middle.
If it is to be assumed that SL will play out on the left then that leaves us with Yates/Beesley/Madine.
An extra striker wouldn't hurt at all.

Yates played on the left for Swindon as well and got into the league 2 team of the season. So that's always an option.

We need a good front 3 so if we sign Bishop, he can play in the centre and that gives you options to play either side such as Yates, Lavery, Bowler, Anderson, CJ and Madine is a sub for Bishop. 2 creative midfielders with a holding midfielder in front of a back 4.
I have to agree with Michelle though, I would rather have Simms for the money too, but I would guess personal terms would be out of our price range.

Ellis Simms signed a 3 year contract with Everton last year to June 2024
I agree that he'd be a great signing, but I reckon he would cost a lot more than £500k, quite possibly outside our price range. We need to look elsewhere, and a proven L1 forward (who seems to have done well at a "smaller club") is a good place to be looking given our budget compared to other championship clubs.

Apparently he was en route to Portsmouth when his agent confirmed our offer. Makes a change from all those times we lost out in exactly the same way.
