Weirdest Ground location

I thought Maine Road was in an odd location, down all those back alleys
I remember going to watch a mid week FA cup replay, and wondering when we were going to get ambushed.
At the time (talking late 1970s) Maine Road was a fairly typical example of a ground location albeit the back alleys weren’t for the faint hearted.

I would go there as a neutral when I was at Uni (around £1 for a seat in the open Platt Lane stand and cheaper in the Kippax ) and you felt safe enough. But when we played there and we went in the away part of the Kippax that was another matter..

Nomination for the Kassam in Oxford. 50 minutes on a bus from the railway station of the same name. Apparently Oxford only have a lease on it until 2026 or something like that. It will be difficult to build another stadium further from the city centre.

Wycombe? End of a cul de sac of light industrial units, then fields all around.
Have to agree, Wycombe is strange.
You can’t see ground till entering through gates to see stadium on left cut into a chalk hillside.
Went there on a glorious sunny day many years ago and saw Paul Dalgliesh have his best ever game for us.

You beat me to it 20s, is it even Bolton?🤔
No. Horwich.
After Bolton away under Grayson (one of the worst games ever), I was getting the train back to Manchester and the train was rammed and then emptied at Bolton station (2 stops after Horwich Parkway) - imagine having to get a TRAIN for home games when you actually live in Bolton. What a ridiculous decision by whoever that was, I'd be fuming as a Bolton fan

Yep remember going to Maine road and the kippax. Their fans were proper intimidating. Up there with one of the most hostile environments to watch a game for me

Perhaps this is more the answer to "weirdest shopping centre location", but St.Jakob stadoin in Basel has a shopping mall underneath the pitch, there is a sticker in the shopping centre showing where you are directly underneath the centre spot.

Rotherham's old ground Millmoor - didn't we used to have to walk through a junk yard to get to the away end?
We did but as it was the first away game I went to I have great memories of it , we had to beat them to stay up in a midweek game & we did due to Colin Morris as far as I remember
Went to the new ground the last time we played them & got chatting to some Rotherham fans, they pointed out the old ground which is still being used & it kind of made me happy to see it & reminisce

Bayern Munich and Ajax seemed quite a journey from the city centres.
The Allianz Arena is well outside Munichs city centre and although it is served by a very good underground / overground metro system they don’t half force and pack you on the train after a game back to the city. And if you drive it can take you a good 1 hour plus to get off the car parks.

An hour to get off the car park? That's almost as bad as at Bloomfield! Almost...

Everton's new ground when it eventually gets built will be a genuine nightmare for egress. There is zero car parking in the area, no decent transport links and the stadium is being crammed into a dockside location that is barely bigger than the stadium footprint, with access only available from one short end of the ground.

Its also next door to a sewage works.

Perfect spot for the blueshite I suppose.

On the same basis, Monaco is on top of a multi storey car park.

Ditto Wembley car parks

The trains were packed and it was a fair walk to the ground from the station.

Aldershot with the train line
Coventry.... just plain weird!
The old Northampton ground with the open side onto the cricket ground
Underhill before barnet moved grounds for a ridiculously sloping pitch and for being Tardis like, a capacity of 10,000 when there were 35,000 pool fans inside when we got beat 7-0! (for which I was the only Pool supporter who wasn't actually there!)

You and me both Herts.

Remember when the old Northampton ground closed the side stand for some reason, just a terrace at either end.
