Don’t be such a blunt tool, man. Immediate action by Labour after their 1997 GE victory took down waiting lists by 20% within two years. Instead of continuing to rise as they would have done under the Cons.So the Labour Party can just trot that line out for 5 years?……is that how it works?
Clearly, those were the easier hits, with straightforward ops/procedures that just needed more beds, more nurses etc. That the waiting list continued to decline for the next 10 years is a testament to continued investment and training of more specialists.
If you look carefully, the waiting lists stabilised from 2008-2010, no doubt due to restricted resources following the global financial crisis, when we gave all the Govt’s money to the Banks instead of public services. Over £200 billion of it.
As soon as the Cons got back in, waiting lists began to rise inexorably from 2010, due to Osborne’s austerity and cuts. It’s all above in black and white, or rather, red and blue.
But things just ain’t the same now as in 1997. Labour have only been allowed over the past few months to start transition talks with civil servants to understand the state of the economy. From what details they have already discovered, Labour says they can’t commit to saying how long it will take to fix things; it’s got that bad economically and there is much more calamity to be uncovered. The Cons have screwed the country for the benefit of their rich mates.
And now we have Truss, Rees-Mogg, Anderson and their crazy mates starting up another hard-right, intolerant faction within the Cons party to try and capture the Con members’ leadership votes to replace Sunak. I hope they succeed actually, as most of the public has clocked their number alright.
