Shrewsbury Town v Blackpool Official Matchnight Thread 29.12.20

I always felt 1 goal would be the winner in this game due to both our recent results and unfortunately as soon as Shrewsbury got it I felt the game was done.
Admittedly we were poor tonight and the team selection was wrong, but the loss of CJ and the performance of out of form Kai Kai clearly hindered us. That with the 2 cancelled games affected our performance.
The defence were slow to react to Walkers double save and on another night we clear that. Added to the fact there’s no rhyme or reason why referees just don’t see to want to give Madine a penalty when thrown to the ground then wrestled into submission in the box is unforgivable and we could of walked away winners. (Albeit not deserved)
A draw on the night would of been a fair result as both teams were poor and is another example of the madness that is L1 this season.
No need for the doom and gloom just yet and provided football isn’t cancelled for COVID we go again against Bristol Rovers. #UTMP🍊

Poor result tonight, way too many players off the pace. The last couple of games we have been very rushed, teams are packing out the midfield against us and forcing us into errors. Yates Madine up front is obviously the best pairing at least to start, if only because Yates puts the defence under pressure from the off. Shrewsbury are / were not a good side but were very organised, their defence tonight were there for the taking but our passing in their half was abject.

not the end of the world, roll on saturday

Cancelling the season is the only way Critchley will get out of jail. I wouldn't back him in the January transfer market, I'd save it for his successor.

The game was marginally less disappointing than the Doncaster one At least we weren’t 2 up and collapsed Shrewsbury are our bogey team. Roll on Saturday

We lost a game of football by 1 goal, in a game at the start of the season we would have shipped 2 or 3 without a doubt. They were a form team coming into a game against another form team, the difference being, they have been playing, and we have had two games called off at the same time we were starting to look towards the playoffs. The fact their commentary team gave their keeper the MOTM award kind of tells you we were maybe unlucky to not come away with a point(we certainly didn't deserve all three, but I'm not sure they did either)

I think he went with 3 in midfield to combat their three midfield players too, but it was clear at half time it wasn't working, as by playing Madine on his own up top, the ball was just coming straight back.

It wasn't our best performance, but reading some of the comments on twitter saying it was our worst seemed to be forgetting some of the performances at the start of the season.

Win at Bristol (big ask I know) and we are certainly back on track, and probably only 4 or so points away from the play offs. A couple of signings in Jan after seeing who hasn't quite cut it from our squad, and a top half finish is well within our grasp, and maybe a late play off push.

There will be no excuse for being off the pace at Bristol, and I genuinely think we will see a reaction, and dare I say it 4-4-2.

I agree that Bristol Rovers are a bit of a bogey team for us esp at their home ground, but Rovers not on the best of form, so some hope for us. Keep the faith but having been behind that crazy penalty at Reading last I year I think getting our former big striker back is not a good idea!!

Critchley will tinker his way to another defeat. 8 in 19 may soon be 9 in 20.

Probably worth giving that 433 another crack on Saturday, Neil. I’m sure it’ll come good eventually

Perhaps you are right. Someone at the club must read this board so if we all call for more 433 perhaps Contrarian Critchley will surprise us all with a solid 442 and a massive win?

I say 433 is the way to be!

We lack devil in our play, we haven't got a true ball player in midfield, Robson is turgid to watch. We need to get rid of Kaikai or use him as an impact player, we need a striker with pace and a true left sided attacker and we should make the POs. Interesting to see what we do in the window, but i suppose it depends if we can ship a few out.

They weren't on form on that horrible day last season. No wins in eleven, Heneghan gets red and we gave them 3pts.😁
Hopefully we smash them this time around.

Would you be fun at a party 62 🥂. As a tangerine (just a simple united and togetherness with our club) slightly worried about your blood pressure and emotional regulation 🧡
Thank you for your concern, much appreciated. I'm great fun, but 63 years of watching and supporting Pool, many in the doldrums, tends to leave me frustrated at full time. Up the Pool but that's very doubtful under Critchley.

Clappers, I don't really think that NC, even if he, or any of his staff reads this board, will change anything if he doesn't want to.
Let's just hope that Tuesday makes him think again.
