Hybrid working

Given the nature of my work I can't work from home; MrsTSS does and she really doesn't like it.

She worked in the NHS and now is a lecturer at a University and is really sociable.

Going from hundreds of patients, dozens of staff to dozens of students and a small team of staff in a hybrid environment has had a negative impact on her.

She hates not seeing her colleagues, hates teaching online and misses the interaction you can only get when you're with people.

She has more time to do her own thing on an evening which is the up side, but she'd much prefer to go back to how it was.

What you save in petrol, you'll spend in keeping your house warm too.

Get your boundaries sorted and try to build in time to see those who you like at work would be my recommendation.

I can see how that may happen, My 2 office work days coincide with the days my 2 closest work pals are in and I will have at least one of my daughters at home with me each day. Apart from my days off so that I still have me time space.

I’m not going into this blindly though and get what you are saying. If I feel the change in routine or structure is detrimental to me,especially my motivation, then I will backtrack and go back in the office more.

The dog is part of a plan to replace the structure with a different motivator.

I will suck it and see and hope the benefits of a bit more balance outweighs any cons.

You'll know if it works for you; hopefully it's great.

Dogs are hard work; we got a King Charles spaniel 11 years ago who is a fabulous family pet BUT all the promises of who will do what with her disappeared; very quickly.

I'm the one walking around picking up dog crap 3 times a day, every day thinking "To the religious, I'm made in God's image, to the atheists, I'm the pinnacle of evolution and here I am picking up this dog sh1t 🤣" - it will be all you in the end, so make sure you're ready.

👍👍

It got to the point where I was going in on certain days to meet the 40% quota, but sometimes I was the only one in, and spending time on Teams calls with everyone else at home.

Make sure the days you're in that the majority of the team are also in, otherwise there's absolutely no point, and all you're doing is box ticking.

I'm sure productivity is actually up for home working, as people start earlier and finish later because of the lack of a commute.

Getting a dog in lockdown was great in getting away at lunchtime rather than carrying on working with a sandwich.View attachment 13465
Love your dog👍

Well an update that you probably don't really care about is as follows :-

After 2 weeks of doing 2 days a week at home.

I’m definitely more productive at home, mainly because there is no one around to take the piss out of and no one to take the piss out of me, officially known as banter.

I daren’t leave my work station as putting the washer on or doing the dishes seems like a naughty thing, even though I’m entitled to two 15 minute breaks a day.

My daughter is at home with me for one of the two days and I’ve finally met someone who talks more than me when working 🤦‍♀️ I apologise formally to anyone who has ever worked with me. I get it now.

I appreciate leaving the house more.

The jury is out for me.

You ensuring you get a dinner break?

You wait until the parcel delivery vans work out you're at home and you become the local drop off point...

Getting a dog, as you were considering, means you get away from your desk and some fresh air at lunchtime. I'd be not moving if we didn't have a dog.
