Of the 24 awards at the Baftas, 16 went to “people of colour” apparently. It’s been described as not artificial or superficial. Is it? Is it genuine? It’s certainly not representative of the mix of the population. Are there more black and Asian people in the film industry than white, or are they just better at it?

I think that people of colour are just generally better at most things than white people really. So it’s probably just a reflection of their superiority, rather than being false.👍

Don’t know about you but it is getting to be boring now and this is not a racist opinion.
A person of none white origin doesn’t get a job here or there.
There are more white skinned people in jobs than those of none white.
No none whites have been nominated for this or that award.
Etc, etc, etc.
It must be very difficult for us (white people) to comprehend what life must be like for a none white person and the racism, abuse (both physical and mental), slavery, etc that they suffered years ago was horrendous but surely, in today’s world, are things really that bad or are none whites taking advantage and using their skin colour or ethnicity purely for beneficial reasons or to make point.
Can they not accept that on occasions they are sometimes not qualified or simply not good enough to get a particular job and because they aren’t nominated for something or other that is because someone else has performed better.
Lenny Henry is a massive advocate for their cause and yet when he first started out on the comedy circuit his skin colour was part of his act and he played on it to some tune.
And that is because it suited his agenda at that time and I don’t recall any complaints from people (white or none white) that he was ridiculing people of none white origin.
This post will probably get removed by the mods!

I’m being totally serious....

If you look at any area where people of colour are offered equal opportunity, then you will see that they dominate in that field.

I often wonder if that is why the white race has tried so desperately to suppress these people, out of fear of their superiority.

From a physical perspective, people of colour dominate sports totally. In artistic terms, they tend to be better actors, musicians etc...

In education they also outperform and it’s only due to lack of opportunities that people of colour are not more prevalent in academic circles....Though if you look at areas like medicine, for example, yet again people of colour are dominant....

For me it's people, only people. Do you see a white man and a black girl and an Asian pensioner and an Oriental baby or do you see a man, a woman, a pensioner and a baby?
Black people appear to be more successful at the elite level of some sports - not all. Is that not because black people are more attracted to some sports? You might as well say that upper class people are better at three day eventing, that upper-middle class people are better at rugby (in Britain), or that the Scandinavians excel at snow and ice-based sports. But then, why bother saying it?

And as the title of the OP points out, people of colour are certainly better at dancing. Even when it's white dances like on Strictly, Oti is the best.

Sounds like the beginning of the end for whites then, blacks are better at sport and music, Asians are better at tech, guess we’ll all just be labourers in the future. Reverse roles.

The idea that you can completely bypass race in our current society is total fantasy and tbh I’m not into that kind of pretence. If I’m being honest, I’m inclined to seriously question the integrity of any individual who suggests that they literally don’t see race.

There’s no harm in recognising our visible physical differences, it’s when we start to view those as a means to prejudice that we have an issue.

I think you are right that people of colour are better at all the sports that they are attracted to and not better at the sports that they don’t do. However I’m absolutely certain that they would also dominate white elitist sports too, given

The diversity of most awards ceremonies seems to be determined before the event. Once the numbers have been decided they can then allocate the awards accordingly. OK so it might not be decided on merit but it seems to keep most people happy.

I think that this is called negging.
Here is a thought.
Perhaps, this year, the 16 awards that went to people of colour were because they were the best in their category. And the 8 that went to white people were because they were the best in their category.
Some on here are determined to view everything through the prism of race.
My other thought is, who actually cares about this stuff, artificial awards given by (sometimes) self appointed experts to others in their circle - it's sort of meaningless.

Women's rights are also been promoted left, right and centre. Our company had a lecture on it trying to work out why computer programmers were generally male. One female manageress said she had tried it and found it tough. She's very good at managing though so I guess this highlighted that sometimes it comes down to where an individual's skills are best placed, not what sex or ethnic origin they are. I can see a lot of unhappy people in future who were thrust into the wrong job by positive discrimination, then realise it wasn't what they are naturally good at.

Has anyone actually watched Nomadland, Minari, Rocks, His House, Another round or Judas and the Black Messiah???
Anyone made an effort to see them....?

Or.........Nobody's bothered?

Minari (the grandmother), Rocks & Another Round were all perfect winners, really good films that were given a boost when they didn't release another Avengers movie or a James Bond....so they were highlighted in a market that was all but empty...so you may look at them as winning because nothing else was there......or you could have seen them as good acting and decent films that were made by good actors and decent film makers.

The only movie that really missed out was Ma Rainey's Black Bottom and for Chadwick Boseman when he told the story about his dad.....

Anyone wait till the end to hear Noel Clark's acceptance speech?
Go back and listen to what he said.....and then understand why there are so many black, Asian and foreign actors & directors coming through

I suspect it's probably more a case that now they are actually being decided on merit, rather than through white tinted spectacles, that some of us are struggling to deal with the fact that we're not wuite as good as we thought we were.

I suspect it's just a numbers game.

BAME/LBGTQ/disabled/religious minorities. Have we missed anyone out? No? Let's go with that then.

What were the films again? Why, is that relevant? No, not really. OK. Issue the press release.

If thinking that makes you feel better about yourself, then who am I to shatter your illusions 👍

I don't know why you bother explaining rationally, there's still posts after yours calling it a numbers game.

That's the 2nd time I've laughed out loud from one of your one liners, Biffster.....Funny thing is Tangojoe probably thinks you mean it.......

Yes, it is only people, if we were in a Utopian Society. Sadly that will NEVER happen.
As BFC x3 eludes to; no matter what you may think, you can never rule out that in the back of your mind the person you are talking to is of a totally different background and race than yourself.
I think these things also swing both ways.
When a black person achieves something for the first time then it is made known globally.
ie. The first black president, the first black footballer, etc, etc.
Why do they need to emphasise it?
If people are ever going to get on an equal footing then stop using theses terms.
Interesting how we can’t refer to a blackboard anymore or other terms that mention the word black; but why?
There is absolutely no offence, intended or implied, when these everyday words are used.
We are watching the series “Them” on prime and it is beyond belief how someone can treat another human being so cruelly just because of the colour of their skin.
The sad part about all this (which is also why things will never change) is that there are still mindless morons who think it’s funny and clever to make racist comments.

You should treat people with the respect due to them. If there are sensitivities that go with their sex, race or ethnicity then take account of that in your dealings. Otherwise, don't allow differences to negatively impact your dealings. I think that's reasonable.

Coming over here, taking all our TV & Film awards 😡
They've picked off most of the stalls in Borough Market too. Not like the old days when the original Phil the Greek used to knock out a moussaka with a nice bit of fresh fish and some courgette balls.

Its all garlic risotto or vindaloos now that doesnt half stink fetching it back on the DLR.

Mastrubates, everybody has the same coloured skeleton you sad tosser

It completely bamboozls me that we pay so much attention to the Baftas and the Oscars where people who "pretend" for a hIiving and are payed millions for doing so. How about we have awards for the best Engineer, best medical professional, best teacher etc.

Another urban myth. Of course you can refer to a blackboard.

You'll be saying Baa Baa Black Sheep is banned next, along with Christmas.

He said he couldn’t think of another Black swimmer. He may of been crap but he had a good go.
Actually I'm wrong, I thought Shane Gould was Fijian, but turns out she's Australia and moved to Fiji as a child. So Eric may well be the only no white Olympic swimmer. Still just the one then.

So did anyone decide why there are no black swimmers in the British Olympic team? OK I know they don't do swimming but is that a reason?

It was said that their body shape doesn’t suit swimming, but does suit running. Don’t know whether that’s true or not.

"It was said..." By whom was it said?

So you are prepared to parrot that all black people have the same body shape that is not suitable for swimming?

Every one of them?

Whereas all Caucasians, I suppose, must have a body shape that is suitable for swimming?

Isn`t that just racial stereotyping?
