For me those positions have to be centre midfield and up front, and good enough to go straight in the team.
I wouldn't be adverse to us signing a "proper" left winger either.

We're now 2 players down due to being without Kemp & Anderson, a quality midfielder(s) is a necessity.

You’ll find we already have 4 high quality full backs for L1.

We’re generally very solid defensively, so our needs are elsewhere - we’re not scoring or creating enough.
I don't agree. At least if they are they need to step it up a bit. We're too vulnerable to crosses and today we were too ponderous getting forward. Start with a solid defence and all that.........

As well as pace in wide areas, we are desperate for a centre mid capable of supporting an attack effectively - by running beyond the defence, not being afraid to shoot, and being someone that the opposition midfield actually has to track. Right now I bet all scouts for the opposition have reported back that non of our centre mids need to be man marked.

We played 442, full backs don’t generally push on in that formation. We lacked in the wide midfield positions.

Good teams with quality players will test good defences - at every level.

Hes gone to Dundee :(

Virtue?

With gretarsson out for a while we need another centre half in. We also now need 1 or 2 wingers and a striker .

Why. It was plain as day then and still is now. Real Experience Counts.
Why not get Barry Sidall back between the sticks?
Maybe Mike Davis to replace Olly Turton?
And while were at it let's see what Bob Hattons up to, bet he'd get more than GM and Yates put together.

That ship has gone, we need a midfielder in the MOULD of Adam, we are looking at younger players not old uns that have priorities elsewhere

Goal scoring midfielder who can lead the team, forward who can score 15-25 goals a season and cover for Maxwell. Leave the defence as is until the summer then have a rethink when Ballard goes back to the Arse!
Goal scoring midfielder who can lead the team, 15- 25 goal a season forward, phew. That’s the £2.5 million budget gone, I hope those 2 are really good.

I think more importantly for the future of the club we need to know who’s moving out.

There’s at least six I can think of, Thorniley, Howe, Sarkic, Williams, Kai Kai and Robson.

Once that’s sorted yes I’ll agree we need a creative midfielder to play along side Dougall or Ward, a second striker and probably a centre back with Thorniley leaving and Gretarson out for a while.

even with those departures we’d still have some touch choice next summer to finally balance out the squad.
Do you need Ward, Dougall, Virtue, Anderson, Antwi and another creative mid for a maximum two central roles, two of those would need to go.
Has Mitchell showed enough to be played ahead of Garbutt? Could we resign Garbutt?
Turton and Husband? Are they up to it?
Alas summers problem but still more upheaval.

I agree there's lots to think about. Thorniley, Sarkic and Howe must be favourites to be released.
Not sure why Williams fell out of favour so quickly and I'm guessing he's one of the current Covid victims.
Sullay is the biggest disappointment and seems to be currently completely lacking in confidence. What has happened to his directness???
Robson is a good player and he's Dougall's back up and Virtue is Ward's.
I'm not an Anderson fan but sadly we don't need to worry about him for a while.
So I'd be satisfied with a goal-scoring speedy right footed winger and another striker to challenge Madine and Yates.

We’d be much higher up and better off if we had managed to secure the services of Adam.
It’d be horrible to watch him try to play in this team. He’d be isolated in the middle- the ball would pass him by in our terrible 3, and he doesn’t have the legs for our current 2. He’d discouraged from long passing, and wouldn’t be able to press. He’d likely get pissed off, but ultimately end up as manager at the end of the season.

There's a few there that will likely stay and be squad players, we're not City or Chelsea who are capable of playing 2 seperate starting XI's that can both compete.
Unless there are players available to sign who are without a doubt a definite step up from what we have, we don't want to be seeing 12 new players arriving every summer.
Kemp has gone, if we could get rid of Thornily, Sarkic & Howe asap and replace them with players who are good enough to challenge for a starting XI spot straight away we should have a set of players who are more than capable of getting out of this division. It is imperative though that the arrivals are genuine difference makers, not just another 4 players who are on the bench one week and nowhere to be seen the next.
We need to find the next Charlie or DJ; our scouting team now has a much more comprehensive body of work to judge what we have and also who is available elsewhere. SS will back Critch if these players are identified, the next couple of weeks could be crucial to how this season plays out.

I think it’s a no brainier for Thorniley, Howe and Sarkic to move on.
Williams actually did ok with the few appearances got, but he’s never going to get in the squad ahead of Dougall and Ward.
No idea what’s happened to Kai Kai, I think he may just need a fresh start.

With Anderson and Robson and really all the others, I think it’s important to move people out because the fact is we’re in a salary and squad capped era now. We can’t just have a bloated squad loaded with 8 or 9 midfielders whist we have only 2 strikers and 2 for centre backs.

So unfortunately Robson needs to go, he’s a carbon copy of Ward and Virtue, you can’t have that now. Like wise with Anderson he huffed and puffed and was unlucky to be shoved all over the pitch to get him a game, and doubly unlucky to have a season ended, but again in this new landscape you can have these players at the club. Especially if we want to bring in a couple of more creative players up top.

Similar to my reply to Insy. We’re moving into a salary and squad cap league, which will be tighter next year i understand.

Cant have 3 or 4 types of the same player it will just leave us weak in other areas of the pitch. I think it’s going to take clubs a while to figure it out. Fortunately we seem to be fairly well run now. So I have every confidence.

I think your point about quality over quantity now is essential.

The fact we're trying to bring on academy players could be crucial for this. Having 2 or 3 graduates in the squad could free up thousands per week in wages which could then be spent on better players.
I'd happily get rid of the 3 I mentioned if it meant we could sign one real difference maker. Those 3 are never gonna get another kick so their wages would be better combined and used elsewhere.

Could we get Alex Dyer back to replace KaiKai !

And in defense Calum McDonald will be coming back?
I rated him and was surprised we sent him out but maybe he needed regular starts.

Need a creative MF, at least 1 winger and a striker imo. I'd let Woodburn go back, he's looked out of his depth most times he's played for us. There has to be better loan signings out there.

Those three for sure. But I don’t think I’m being extreme in thinking players like Robson Williams and Anderson will also have to move on. Tough choices and people at the club will need to swallow their pride. But if it means that you can bring in two strikers and another centre back, like I say in this capped league it’s a must.

I thought he did well the few times we saw him, but looks like he’ll just be moved on it does happen all the time in football signed by one manger moved on by the next. I’ve no really problem with that as long as the squad improves
