Civil Service pay

We are working every hour 50’s, weekend’s and bank holidays included.
Many of us have been redeployed into unfamiliar benefit areas and roles, working out of grade all over the place so that the immediate universal credit influx of claims can be processed ensuring the money gets where it’s needed.
There have been tears and sweat, real tears in some cases trying to adapt and keep up.
Some work will unfortunately be getting left behind in areas of less priority, but priority they still are and will no doubt be prioritised again when the pandemic response calms down.
Overstaffed we certainly weren’t, hence the current stresses and imminent recruitment.
As an aside I’m not overly concerned about a pay rise, but don’t like our work ethic being undermined especially in the current climate.

Are you really that desperate to have a go at people? And for what? What do you get out of it? The Civil Service is populated by ordinary people just trying to do a job. What on Earth is so bad about that that they need to be insulted and told that they're slackers who don't need decent pay and don't have enough to do?
I was a civil servant and I don't go round slagging off telesales workers, electricians, council workers, builders, teachers or anyone who is employed and whose wages are set by an employer.
Just allow people a chance to fight for decent wages without all the insinuations.
That is a total misrepresentation of what I posted .I am not having a go at any civil servant other than the attitude of the O/P complaining about his pay rise at a time like this.

Your post reflects that you find it difficult to engage your brain before reaching for your keyboard together with a degree of paranoia.

And Robbie reading your post only further confirms my admiration nay hero worship for civil servants which is itself exponential, especially as my son is one.

So, insults it is then. One of your earlier posts referred to some civil servants as..."what a hypocritical and self-centred bunch some of them are." Moving on you say that Wizard must "previously have been grossly underemployed".
Still, why stop at a few thousand civil servants and Wizard when there's also Labour voters to have a go at given "what a hypocritical and self-centred bunch some of them are."
So, yes you are having a go at Civil Servants. My brain is fully engaged and my psyche is, on the whole, managing fine.

That is so much rubbish it is not worthy of a reply so I`ll treat it with the contempt it deserves and just ignore you.

A I refer you back to the correct measure of inflation posted earlier on this thread by BFC x3 which suggests your pay rise is above the current rate.Either way it is certainly around the inflation rate.

B If you are currently managing a 2200% increased workload which sounds incredible, then you must have previously been grossly underemployed otherwise such an increased workload would have been quite impossible.

C Unsure what you mean by that.

You are correct that I like most others of my age receive a state pension. I can`t see any logic in your suggestion that anyone like me who has worked and paid taxes all my working life should now turn down what the government believes is fair and reasonable recompense for people like myself in retirement.State pension is hardly a king`s ransom and no doubt far less than most civil servants will receive when they retire.

Furthermore I don`t think the award I received from our Lord Mayor for all the years of voluntary service I gave to our local hospice would suggest any hypocrisy or self centredness.
Triple lock means you'll get a minimum of 2.6% as outlined by BFCx3. In these times of crisis you'd think you'd want to contribute. Ah well.

If its any of your business I have contributed for many years in taxes and charity work and am currently helping 2 of my adult children who are no longer working and are not entitled to furlough payments.

How about you ? Although to be honest I`m not really interested having already read your posts on here.

And I haven't? 43 years a tax payer and still paying in, Chair of the school PTA, voluntary helper at another local school but still, you're entitled.

Three kids, two of which are home owners and struggling who I try and support plus one doing A levels on their way to university. It's all a doddle.

Entitled can have another connotation of course...

All this personal stuff when the simple fact is your opening post was in my opinion entirely inappropriate at a time like this.I`ll leave it there.

I think they will get 2.5%... Not that it makes much difference, but it's the higher of 2.5%, inflation (based on CPI) or average earnings increase.

In fairness, I think many people will feel that it is appropriate to review the triple lock situation in light of the Covid 19 nightmare. There's already been rumblings around the fact that the pensioners having been protected by the lockdown and that they should share in the cost on the economy.

You may be right. I wouldn`t complain if pensions were frozen as we head into a severe recession.

After starting the personal stuff, that seems somewhat passive aggressive but as you say, let's leave it there.
