Blackpool v Ipswich Official Matchday Thread 10.10.20

IN YOUR FACE ALL YOU CRITCH DOUBTERS WHO THOUGHT HIM INCAPABLE OF PRAGMATISM AND WEDDED TO HIS BEAUTIFUL PHILOSOPHY.

(he's literally just read this thread and shouted 'actually, Gary, get your kit on lad, Yatesy, on the left Phil, 20s and td53 have spoken)

** hell - turton at centre back tho...
More flexible than you fort!

TBF to Turton...he's calm, strongest defensively and very very consistent. He lacks the physical presence of a usual CB but so does Husband and he did very well...
Hope so, think it's a bit harsh on Thorniley who I'd have had down as MoM against Accy.

Think that’s a good move in the front 3 but it’s either Turton or Garbutt at CB which tells Thoniley he’s well down the pecking order

If Turton is RCB, then Ekpiteta is LCB. Not sure I fancy either in those positions. Ekpiteta is error prone as it is, without being on his more unfamiliar side

Very surprising he's gone with 2 right footed CB's when Thorniley is available. Especially when one of them has been mostly playing right back.....

I thought we'd just got rid of Notts 😂

I suppose it comes down to Epiketa and what Critchley has as his game plan. Perhaps Epiketa is needed to play against a certain Ipswich forward - as such we need someone more capable of playing on the right of the Central defence and maybe someone a little more intelligent than Thornily playing alongside him. I do agree though that it seems unfair - but without the scout reports and without knowing how players train and how they perform day to day it's impossible to make the decision the manager does.

Maybe he think Turts can bring the ball out better and be a passing centre back? His passing against Lincoln was good, about the best thing in the game outside of CJ.

Big gamble this with Turton centre half in a game we could have swerved...I hope Madine can finally get properly involved now he is"injury free" and it will free up Yates to his preferred role...Feel for Mitchell as he has looked good going forward...it was obvious Gabriel and Garbutt would be involved from the off and Ward is in the last chance saloon at centre mid

Hopefully that means Epiketa WONT be trying to play any balls and just has to do the simple stuff.

I actually prefer turton at centre-back than at right back. He's nothing more than a short term answer in either position though.

Don't mind a gamble on Turts. It could go wrong but he's done ok this year and who knows... Suddenly 3 of 4 of the defense are reasonably comfortable or better with the ball.

Don't mind gambles. Happy he's trying something a bit different.

Might we be looking at a 4-4-2 here?
Not really...Yates will be out on the left which is where he was so successful last year...we dont play standard 442 or 433 anyway as Yates has been playing as a lone forward thus far and hasnt been getting into the dangerous positions. I want to see Madine up top but CJ and Yates making it more like a 4 3 3

I hope Turts is playing the left side, please don't move Marv!

Didn't Turts play left CB at Port Vale in pre season?

No Mitchell, I just realised.

Only one left back in the team! And is he a left back? Apparently not!

Yes, I'm inclined to agree. I just had visions of Anderson and Hamilton playing wide and Yates playing off Madine.

Your the one suggesting playing players out of position in unfamiliar roles not me
Of his last 50 games he's played 15/16 games at either Central Midfield or as a Left Sided Defensive Midfielder. He's also played 12/13 games as a winger too. So it's not 'out of position' or in an 'unfamiliar role'. Modern Football requires adaptability and the ability to play multiple positions. You're the only one adamant he's a Left Back despite professional football managers literally saying his best position is that of a winger.

Go on then a little whinge totally unrelated. If you look at the BBC website, football, scores and fixtures, the L1 fixtures are listed after the Scottish League Cup and fixtures such as Arbroath v Montrose and Elgin v Stirling Albion. Joke.

Just had a look at their twitter and fans do not seem happy with their team selection at all. Said that their bench is stronger, they wouldn't be underestimating us would they?

How many fcuking times do you need telling

We dont play with a left footed left winger

Enjoyed reading that.

The midfield is a concern for me too. You're right about the possession as well. Not watched all the games, just a couple, but there was lots of sideways passing, especially by Robson, and here's my pet hate, a midfielder who passes to to the right back or CH to lump it forward when really the ball, on most occasions, should be going forward to a player looking for it.

Yates should play out wide, hopefully freeing up space for CJ.

I'm hopeful that the defence will become settled with 3 of the 4 places nailed on.
Reality is we could be bottom come 5 o'clock. Sober thought.
I think we could also be seventh

All eyes on Madine...a massive opportunity for him to show us what we've been missing!
Hopefully his presence will not allow the opposition the luxury of having two centre backs man marking Yates for the entire 90 minutes.

interesting line up, i think turton played a couple of times at CB last season as well and looked ok. time to pour myself another drink and log in

We'll certainly need him at the back when defending set pieces which has been our achilles heel so far this season.
