A listening government?

She’s clearly out of her depth, but maybe it’s best she’s clings on until the next election, despite the short-term damage this will cause.
The alternative is a new Tory leader, a fifth prime minister in six years, a snappy three word slogan such as “Boris’ll fix it” that the gullible lemmings will no doubt fall for, and we’re back to square one for the next five years.
Shes finished I think. Could yet be the shortest term as PM ever. George Canning was 129 days I think. Will be surprised if still here by next Spring.
Tory MPs ready to vote against non uprating of benefits with inflation and suggested that there are enough Tory MPs against fracking to stop it going ahead. Humiliating if happens.

What strikes me about Truss is that she thinks that the solutions to our problems are incredibly simple, as if no-one else has ever thought of doing the things she is trying to do. As several of us pointed out at the time of the leadership contest she is way, way out of her depth as PM - she should really be on the back benches if she has to be in politics. She cannot command the respect of her own party let alone the country.
Her main unforced errors so far which demonstrate her naivety;
  • Allowing Kwartang to sack chief civil servant at the treasury, arrogant and stupid
  • Pissing off and disregarding the OBR who, seemingly, tried hard to work with the Treasury on the mini budget
  • Consequently allowing Kwartang to make a load of un-costed pledges which has cost us, the tax-payer, upto £65 billion
  • Pissing off the BoE which was subsequently forced to clear up her and Kwartang's mess
  • Tin eared on 45% tax-cut, clearly it is the wrong time for this, subsequently forced into a humiliating u-turn
  • Another u-turn on the publication of OBR report this morning, which has been brought forward despite saying in an interview yesterday that this would not happen
  • Went missing when the shit was hitting the fan last week and then when she surfaced she attempted to throw her chancellor under a bus. The chancellor then attempts to blame his secretary Chris Phelp.
  • Would not reassure pension holders that their pensions were safe, passed the buck to the BoE
As mentioned above, a proportion of Tory MPs look set to rebel on the welfare cuts that she is planning.
She is a dreadful, weak leader who if she had an iota of self respect or love of the country would seek a mandate from the electorate.

Why did the party allow her to be put forward in the 2 horse race, when they must have known her weaknesses. All part of a seemingly cunning plan perhaps 🤔

I wonder if that racist lefty rag the mirror will put up a picture of a random bloke off the street again🙁
Seems like the Express just mistook him for someone who knew what he was doing

The Daily Express says the chancellor will draw a line under the market turmoil of the past week when he issues a "conference battle cry" this afternoon.
Kwasi Kwarteng is expected to say the government "must stay the course" as watered-down alternatives would leave Britain on a path of "managed decline”

Ha! So much better to have immediate and chaotic decline.

Loved that posted comment from Danny Dyer. That is exactly the way i see it. People at the bottom work bloody hard for peanuts and increasingly the disparity in the wealth between the rich and the poor grows.
Ah but this is what they should be doing

Conservative chair Jake Berry: People know when they get their bills, they can either cut their consumption or get higher salaries or higher wages and go out there and get that new job.

Or this from back in May

Liz Truss claimed the Tory minister who said people should get better jobs to deal with the cost of living crisis had been "mischaracterised" - but she didn't even see her interview.

This week in Tory Britain got off to a good start when safeguarding minister Rachel Maclean sparked outrage by saying people struggling with rising bills should work more hours or get a better paid job.

Seems as though they are still listening.

It's a shame they don't appear to have taken any alternative input to start with, but at least it show's they are prepared to change course when they have made mistakes of judgement rather than ploughing on regardless.

Hopefully, for all of us, they don't do it again and get a broader input into their future plans.

The only thing that is making them change course is the huge battering they're taking from fellow Tory MPs.
