Your Spurious BFC connections

I used to deliver the free Courier paper to Stan Mortensen's house on Longhouse Lane. My round also included Charlie Adam's house but before his time.

Ray Charnleys lad was in my year at Bowerham.primary.

Brett has delivered a parcel to my house.

I was at the game in Nth London when we lost 7-0.

Worked in the same computing department as Keith Dyson in the early 80s.
Out of interest where was that Billy?
Got to know Keith through junior football & his missus Jennifer was a teacher at Hodgson when I was there. Always presumed they'd returned to the North East after his Blackpool career ended?
I worked in IT from late 80's on DSS/DWP contract at St Annes. Loads of geordie's came down when work was transferred from Newcastle.

Preston. He was only at our place a couple of years but from vague memory I think he went somewhere else in Preston afterwards. That would be before 1984 though.

I played football with Thommo and Phil Clarkson used to deliver my post ha to be fair i knew Phil quite well and again played in the same non league team as him.

I worked for a Director of BFC in the 60s called Eric Cunliffe. I was working at the old Supporters Club in the South west corner when he sacked me.

I was once having a kickabout with a couple of pals on the Rock Gardens. A younger group appeared and there's not much space so we ended up in a 6ish a side with them.
We were hammering them, being a bit older, when an old guy appeared, walking his dog. One of the younger boys shouted across to him "dad, come and help us, we're getting thrashed here!".
The old fella walks over, leather shoes, overcoat etc, we're thinking who's this old bugger as if he's gonna be able to play!!
Long story short, the "old boy" was only Tony Green and even in his fancy shoes, overcoat and being well into his 50s he absolutely tore us apart!!!

My Seasider hero - he could have played with his laces tied together and still thrashed your team 🤣 He continues to be Mr Blackpool FC

Worked for a few years with ex Pool player Graham Oates.

Was presented with a Sunday alliance football league winners medal from John Burridge.

Bought a house off ex Pool player Chris Beech’s parents.

So your connections to Blackpool FC - could be went to school with a player, relative has something to do with the club, fitted a tap there, was a Golden Gamble seller etc

We used to play football on summer evenings at Stanley park , Budgie used to come down and join in but absolutely refused to go in goal . He absolutely slaughtered me once for a crossfield pass that got cut out . On another occasion he was presenting end of season medals for Sunday football teams , he got a bit fed up and gave all the medals to our team leaving others with nothing for their efforts .we sorted it all out .
Also as a retiree used to deliver leaflets for Tom Whites sons . Good lads , told me some good tales .

Tony's lads would not be living in Blackpool and well into their 20's if Tony was well into his 50's.

I know this as his youngest lad was my mate until he left Blackpool.

Played alongside the Ghost at Wyre Villa..grew up with his older siblings and his wife is involved with my wife’s rehabilitation.
Seem to remember an odd game at Villa with Derek Spences brother...
Occasionally exchange pleasantries with Terry Pashley.... as he takes his thighs for a cycle ride!!!!
Karl Oyston ex father in law... was my dads best man and my godfather.
Dated daughter of ex pool Sammy Salt...my uncle and aunt bought his house when he left the village..whilst redecorating they found a pair of knickers behind a radiator... Aunty rolled with laughter, having asked me if I recognised them... I replied... nah thems not going out ones...😁

I'm not lying, might be mistaken though. I was probably about 14 ish I'd say, and I'm 55 now, so we're talking 40 odd years ago.
I didn't even know who he was at the time, just remember being in awe of this blokes skills and someone saying that's Tony Green.
If it wasn't him, that's a shame, but no problem

Not having a go at you pal. And I certainly don't think you are lying. Just maybe time lines. Because I met Tony Green and his youngest lad playing football aged about 6 on the Rock Gardens. And then went soon after to the same Primary school. And Tony joined in mesmerizing my dad (who is also Scottish and didn't realize who he was until later when they were friends for a while). I was lucky and was taken to many games with Tony Green as his lads mate. I was spellbound at Bloomfield road and hadn't a clue that Tony Green Snr was so much loved.

In fact we were shite and Tony didn't have the accolades he does now as he was not long into his career ending. His house had Scotland caps in a cabinet, he took us to football matches, he went for the odd pint with my dad and his lad was my mate. Never thought anything special of it as a nipper. But he and his then wife (Trish) were lovely people.
