Will Maxwell accept being second choice?

I’ve seen enough of Grimshaw not to be of the opinion that there isn’t a part of his game where he’s worse than Maxwell. He is better in many areas, kicking, distribution, shot stopping, I’d argue positioning. And the areas which aren’t particularly his strongest Maxwell isn’t any better in that field.. commanding of the area, coming for crosses.

Maxwell has been a fantastic servant and is a brilliant captain and role model for the club. But surely nobody can argue he should get his place back the way Grimmy has played. However he is too good really to be a number 2.

He doesn’t have a choice does he? Grimshaw is head and shoulders above him based on his last few appearances

I agree Maxwell is a solid GK who had an amazing season in League 1. I would be very surprised if Grimshaw lost his spot in the starring XI. Another season where we are blessed with such strength in our squad! 🧡

Both keepers defensively weak in controlling the box - particularly from set pieces. Twice last night Sheff United had the ball in the net from corners not dealt with properly (I know both ruled out). Both times blame could be attributed towards an uncommanding keeper.

Both are great keepers in all other areas.

Spent long periods of time as second choice to Scott Davies at Fleetwood but was always a class act when he played and eventually became first choice.

Maybe they'll let Maxwells' contract run out.
We have two capable keepers now so it would save some money to let Maxwell go.

This is all on the assumption that Grimshaw is still our player next season. He is a quality keeper and I’m sure on the radar of plenty of Championship & Premier League clubs.

We won’t want to be in the position of releasing Maxwell then Grimshaw moving on.

When I saw your post I was going to post about both keepers' lack of command of their areas. However, you've covered that. I think they're very even but, as Captain, Maxwell is the senior. Don't get me wrong. I'm a Grimshaw fan.
