Why is Pool’s set piece delivery so bad ?

Pool scoring from a free kick or corner is as rare as hen’s teeth. The ball rarely gets past the first man, and if it does, it often goes over the top of everyone. There is no pressure on the ball from a free kick or corner. They have all week to practice, but the end result is …….nothing ! Why ?

Players incapable/ not skilful enough to deliver quality ball / make appropriate runs.

It was absolutely terrible again yesterday

it was blowing a gale yesterday ,so you cant blame anyone for that !

The few crosses Carlisle put in we’re far better Han ours, they’re professional footballers they should be able to adapt and a cross doesn’t have to be a high ball in, we had several times yesterday when we got into good positions and put in low crosses that were nowhere near our players, plus it’s not just yesterday, it’s been poor all season.

I thought the same re their crosses. Set pieces are a golden opportunity at this level. Nobody ever wants to receive a throw in.

Mate, Carlisle's crossing was ** awful.

Edit, we're talking set pieces aren't we? - their delivery from open play was minging. Set pieces maybe less so

I do agree our throw ins are generally piss poor with nobody wanting the ball, i do think they are way too slow as well. Throw ins should be practised as well as set pieces.

To stay on open play for a moment, we actually put some ok balls in, but we're terrible for not committing players to the box.
you're right , our players don't seem to gamble enough on the ball into the box and no one ever seems to attack the incoming ball, its as if its all zonal. A great example for a player attacking the ball is Big John Murphy. Rhodes is the same but not as physical. Gaz Goals attacked it well, but the ball in was nowhere near as good otherwise he would have been selected for England.

Surely we could coach one or two different moves for corners where it gives us a better chance of a shot at goal. A few runs and short passes to get in front of goal at least.
I find it hard to believe that any footballer can’t take a decent corner with any consistency.

Why do we always lose the ball within 6 seconds of kick off.
Because we play a dull and predictable kick off routine that means going back to Grimshaw and launching it up, rather than what some teams do in mixing it up, keeping the ball, trying something off the TG maybe, etc.

Let's not forget as well that our through balls are absolutely atrocious.

Over hit, under hit, hesitate so the chance is gone, just don't see it, or poor touch if one is played well.

The amount of times promising attacks miss the chance to turn into a goal scoring chance due to the above is very disappointing.

Lack of confidence due to the uninspiring, negative manager. His m world renowned coaching qualifications don’t seem to count for much in training, otherwise we’d at least have some decent crosses

And yet, before Christmas, when Rhodes was on fire, he scored from some set-pieces. Could it be that the players on the end of them aren't that good?

I think the crossing has improved 10 fold this season with Dembele and even Sonny taking them. Our strikers are the problem, other than Rhodes no movement, if it doesn’t land on there head or foot they give up.

I'll go and grab my helmet but since Carey came back into the team both the set piece delivery and final ball through have improved.

I'm not saying they are good and I'm certainly not saying he gets it right every time but at least he has some attacking intent.
What you grab in your own company is entirely upto you...

I think the Boswells must be on the drills. Did you see the heading practice before the Carlisle game? It was like the juniors at school back in the old days 😬

Yep, very rarely do any of our midfielders get in the box.

Why.

Look at the Chelsea lad yesterday, got forward regularly.

C’mon lads, fuck Critchley, get in the box.
