Why does anyone want us to stay up?

There’s very little chance now that we’ll survive the drop.

My question, taking everything into consideration, why do you want us to stay up?

As a club we can’t compete on any level in the Championship. We have a Lg1 ground and budget. A Lg 1 squad and a lg1 owner. Why the clamour to stay up and have another season of struggle and turgid football. Lg1 is far more enjoyable and our current level.

A new owner willing to invest could change that but there’s little chance of that.

I'm going to presume that this isn't a joke and answer the question.
1. In sport you want to perform at the highest level possible.
2. We play against teams like Sheffield United and Norwich instead of Morecambe and Accrington Stanley.
3. More money into the club so we can invest, get better players and grow as a club.
4. More often on TV. This includes as the main game and on the red button. This is obviously fantastic if you can't make it to every away game.

Do I need to continue?

Kind of agree. If we haven't got an owner that can, or is willing to pay for Championship standard players on Championship level wages then we probably are better off being a bigger fish in the far smaller pond that is League 1.

It's not really a slight on the owner either. The fees and salaries in the Championship are eyewatering without the financial rewards of the Premier League.

A new owner with ambition, is in no way out of the question pal. We're constantly told...

● We are small
● We have no money
● Etc Etc

Just excuses....

This club could really be something in the right hands 👐

So should we aim for 7th max then to avoid complications?

Thanks for the serious answer to a serious question.

After 2 seasons, nearly, in the Championship we have gone backwards. Circa £25m from tv money and player/manager sales and we virtually have our lg1 squad. So points 3/4, whilst I agree, don’t hold much water so far. That tangerine paint must have been bloody expensive!!

Point 1. Of course but we can’t run before we can walk. Promotion came too soon and the owner can’t really afford this level.

Who we play is largely irrelevant. More income from larger away followings to swallow up but it’s a bit condescending to suggest playing Sheff Utd and Norwich with their tens of millions of parachute money is preferable over Morecambe and Accy. Not sure that’s the beautiful game but more the ugly side.

Pretty sure it’s a joke. If it isn’t give your head a shake

You could ask the same question to the bottom 6 or 7 in the Premier League. I bet Burnley fans are loving this season but will they enjoy next season? They might like poncing around football stadium ticking them off but that's not what it's about is it?

It’s the hope that kills you. I’d rather play at a level where you are competitive every week. The top 2 divisions are literally out of our league currently.

Because in 1978 we thought we'd drop down a Division, have a stroll in the park, enjoy the season and come back up.

29 years later...

You think we're lacking investment now, League One income is miniscule by comparison.

No one plans to be relegated. Its the economics of madness.

The main reason we re thought of being inferior to clubs Norwich, Sheffield ,Sunderland is because we don't have a big fan base ,why then look around you how many people in the Fylde say they are Liverpool, Man city, Utd etc etc otherwise we d have a far big base I know that cause I ve got family who just say am a Liverpool fan but live all their lives here ??

I know we’re currently bottom, but there are 24 teams in the division and at any given time, 3 will be in the drop zone. At the moment it’s us. Oh well never mind, these things are transient, they change. Should fans of all clubs in and around the drop zone in every division bleat on about the owner not being good enough or being league 1, whatever the hell that means.

We ARE a fairly small club at this level, and last time I checked, we are competitive at this level, we’re not getting a hiding week in week out, we’re just not winning enough at the moment. We can compete at this level, it’s just harder than it is for bigger clubs in richer areas, and sometimes, we’ll lose games.

Yes there are things you can look at and argue should have been done better, apples was a terrible appointment, McCarthy is, players not good enough, but arguing it doesn’t make it true.

I think Sadler is a great owner, regardless of if we stay up or go down.

But it’s just an opinion.

i really dont get this common idea that a football club cannot be run on sound financial principles. OK the vast majority of football clubs are not run on sound financial principles, but that doesnt mean it cant. Luton town who have an average gate less than ours made a 3 million pound profit in the last financial reports, and this is the second year they have been pushing for a play off place.

It requires more planning and more creative management skill from the executive team, and ensuring that the sporting management is of both the right caliber and able to meet the clubs non sporting limits.

The thought process is an easy one to come to with things the way they are ATM but... for me the closer we remain to a shot at the Prem the better. Imagine what SS could do with everything the Promise land offered. Its apparent there's mistakes being made currently, but we need to Keep the Faith, as others have said the bottom bunch will move about a fair bit, we just need to string some performances and results together and we can be safely out of it .

Your right of course but I have to take exception to point 3 and the get better players bit
We've had 4 transfer windows and the type of players we have got in kinda negates that point in my humble opinion

Whether or not you agree, it is the case that we can spend and invest what we earn and we earn more in the Championship.

We are also on TV more in the Championship. That is just a fact.

I also disagree with your point about it being condescending. I am sure fans of those clubs would rather play Liverpool than us. But that wouldn't be condescending to us. It's the way it is.

From a financial point of view it's vital we stay up. Whether that's under Sadler or if the rumours of him looking for a buyer are true. From a supporter point of view it will be a blow, as playing Nobbers, Blackburn and possibly Everton next season would be a miss. Having said that, we'd win more often and based on who would form the core of our squad, I'd fancy us to be in the top 6.

I'm pretty chilled about things, ultimately it is in our own hands, there are plenty of games left, we haven't been cut adrift. We either prove to be good enough or deserve to be relegated. It's just massively important as fans we just keep getting behind the team and manager, we are in a dogfight, it may just comes down to who wants it most. We have to make Bloomfield Road a difficult place to visit and desperately need that win that will give everyone a boost.

So should we aim for 7th max then to avoid complications?
That's not what I'm saying.Happy if we are promoted but also don't see it that we are entitled to be in the Championship clearly on a shoestring budget nor it the end of the world if we are in league 1.

16 games left, 16 wins, 76 points, I'm still thinking play offs. 😉

I am sure there are lots of replies but I went straight to mine without reading them.
What the fuck? Why on earth would I want my team to be relegated? What the fuck is wrong with you man?
Did your parents not love you or something???

Cannot believe the O/P.
Remember in the mid 80’s when someone quoted we were better off in the 4th tier rather than compete with the big boys like Bradford City In Div 3.
There are now some big clubs in League 1 butI don’t fancy trips to the likes of Leyton Orient, Stevenage or Salford City.

I don't see how anyone can think there's very little chance of us staying up when we're one point from safety with 16 games still to play. I hope the players have more stomach for the fight. In fact I know they have based on what I've seen in the last two games.
I think the fact we haven't won in 13 games and don't look like winning in the future probably informs the comment you quoted.

Could have sworn we survived comfortably last season, I think that meant we were competing.

I don't get this small club syndrome, maybe it's you youngsters who weren't around when many of us first watched Football. We were in the top two divisions then.

Adapt and survive, not to say the club hasn't made some duff decisions, but we need to look upwards, not downwards.

Well then I probably agree with you. Really what it comes down to is what we are content with as supporters. Pool were a 4th/3rd division club when I was growing up and never a particularly competitive one. Then of course we didn’t have a club for half a decade and we spent all our time talking about court cases and wondering if we’d ever get to enjoy a match again. So I’m still pretty over the moon to be back to supporting a real football club. If we’re a big fish in league one, with a permanent east and a purpose built training ground, in 5 years’ time I’ll be ecstatic. That’s all I wanted as a lad, for the club to have some pride in itself and to stay relevant. I’ve no reason to think we’re not on the path to achieving that!

That is not because of the league we are in. It is only logical that we should be able to recruit better players and will have more money to do so in a higher league. Can pay higher wages and attract better players. Perhaps Bowler wouldn't have come to us were we in L1. We definitely wouldn't have got Poveda. Just our recruitment has been quite poor.

surely any team, individual wants to play at the highest level possible and the same for supporters they want to see their team/individuals compete at the highest level, irrespective of sport.

We also clearly need quite a big rebuild in the summer. If we are starting afresh in the summer as a Championship club then we will be able to recruit a better manager and better players.

If we are in L1 then some of the players that we think are poor are probably decent L1 players. Reece James on loan at Sheffield Wednesday for example. I'd like to watch a bit better than that every week.

I think a fairer question to ask them is do they want to go back up and be in the PL. I reckon the answer would be a resounding YES. I would say most fans of promoted teams don't accept it's a foregone conclusion that they would come straight back down, They go into the season with hope and optimism. Just like we did.

My favourite time was the mid 70's when we were always 4th,5th,6th or 7th. We'd have been in the play offs every year nowadays
Great days.
I say to my pals that I'd rather be there than back in the Premiership, but ask any fan whose club is on the verge of promotion to the top division, ask any supporter of a team struggling, perennially, to remain in the top flight and there's a unanimous response.
I'd like to remain in the most competitive league in the country; I want
(although doubt it will happen) my team to do the double over our enemy; I love coming away from Bloomfield after putting a supposed
"bigger" club to the sword and I want Blackpool to PROGRESS, not take backward steps after what we've been through.
Look at some of the clubs in League 1; we'd have as much difficulty competing against them, financially, than those in the Championship

I would settle for being a yo yo club at least for a while.
Trouble is we are not going to find it easy to get back out of League One I think.
I wouldn't mind being a yo-yo club like Fulham or Burnley, between The Championship and Premiership, but I definitely don't want League One football.
A good few of the squad are out of contract after this season, and I dread us spiralling downwards and struggling to stay out of League Two.

The thing there is Burnley since 16/17 have been in the PL,also in 15/16 they ended their season in the championship with a 23 game unbeaten run, added to this seasons record they’re too good for this league, and god i wish we were run like them.
