Who was the manager when you went to your first match?

Morty's sacking was stupid. He brought in Tony Green and Tommy Hutchison for the price of birdseed. Why have we had a history of idiot owners?
I couldn't agree more. Mortensen, Mortensen, is it true, we're going to win, Division 2? I can still here that song. Unfortunately it wasn't but being a Blackpool supporter usually means hope over expectation.

Another for Ron Stuart 1961.
Home defeat to Spurs with Mackay and Blanchflower.
Think it was 1-2 or 1-3.
I was 9.

Ron Stuart.

I didn’t know who it was and tbh I had to look it up on Wiki because at 6 years old you don’t care or even know a football club has a manager. All your interested in is who is playing in Tangerine.

What a brilliant thread this is. 😁👍

1957 couldn't care less at the time I was only four - first manager I could relate to was Morty a true hero

Ron Suart. October 1964, a 1-1 draw against Everton. Brian Labone, Colin Harvey and Fred Pickering were all playing for Everton and the crowd at Bloomers was over 31,000

Sam Ellis .

To be fair I didn’t go that often. I could take it or leave it and there were other things to do.

It was Billy Ayre who got me truly addicted.

His passion astounded me . I’d never seen anything like it .

Cost me a fortune that fella over the years but I wouldn’t have it any other way and I’m very grateful to him .

Ron Suart. There, I've shown my age.

The unusual situation in those days was that (pretty much) nobody ever got sacked. Growing up, I could name all the Lancashire teams managers for years; Andy Beattie - PKE. Harry Potts - Burnley, Jack Marshall - t'Rovers, Bill Ridding - Bolton to name but a few. Times have changed that's for sure.
Joe Smith. There we go!

Good post but his surname was Suart.

Thought it was Morty, but looks like it was Suart.
Saw match of the day, if my memory serves me right Blackpool beat Liverpool at Anfield and they had just won the First division title.
Was about 66?.
First match I attended was Ipswich at home 0-0. All I could remember was how boring it was.
We had beaten PNE at Deepdale on the Previous Saturday.

We haven't lost at Anfield since.

King Billy. 6-0 win over Carlisle

Roes Shannon

When we had a proper footie team - Hutchison, Green, Pickering, Suddick, Armfield, Glyn James, Harry Thompson etc
