Who have you enjoyed watching this year? (Loans excepted)

It's been a bit of struggle to point to our own players and say "they've had a good season"

Casey has done ok at the back... I *was* quite enjoying the all new 100% committed Owen Dale but for me, I think Albie Morgan has been the player I've most enjoyed.

He's always trying something but also can get stuck in a little bit and win a tackle from time to time.

What about ye?

Struggle is the word. After a shaky start, I'd agree with your Morgan comment.

Other than that, I think Beesley gets an unfair rap. He always competes and has scored double figures in a team that doesn't exactly create plenty of chances.

Morgan was certainly looking to be hitting a good run of form before his injury. Agree with the Beesley comment above, thought he and Rhodes played well together. Other than that……

Albie. Shorting passing, long passing, shoots and scores, good corners and crosses. Of course he was dropped for having the temerity to do all that 🤷‍♂️ I think we've missed him.

Similar thread this to the player of season award (POSA) discussion recently.
Morgan hit a purple patch around New Year for a half dozen games or so, then went average then got injured. Like Byers & Norburn, rushes about at times in games, gets an early yellow & is then anonymous.
Casey, as per POSA thread. Was in form until Posh at home then team place & form went out of the window for awhile.

Grimshaw has been the most consistent performer.

Joseph had a few week spell where he was great to watch and reminded me of Jerry.

He hasn't really kicked on though and his goal return has been really poor.

This thread is about who you have enjoyed watching, not who is the most consistent or POY contender.

Gabriel but even he’s slipped his usual high standards recently.
Glimpses of Morgan. Even very sporadically bits of Carey but I find he disappears from games. Husband started better than expected but faded.

Dreaded Marvin playing football but like his last minute tackles sometimes after his own mistakes.
Personally didn’t understand Dale going.
Pennington and Casey have had good games but not consistent.

Joseph started ok but looks completely lacking in confidence.

Oops there’s a bit of a trend here.

We’ve never recovered from losing Dougal and (Rhodes but ignore him on this thread).

Mostly Dembele & Rhodes from what I've seen. Fleeting moments otherwise. Gabriel when he got stuck into the Portsmouth left back. Norburn when he risked a bollocking off the xG dweebs on the touchline to give it some welly against Bristol Rovers at home.

Apart from that, mostly everyone has been the same and has ended up bogged down by what's asked of them on the pitch and it's really highlighted individual weaknesses rather than making the sum of parts stronger.

Grimmy for me.
He's Mr Consistent & has pulled off some wonderful, point winning saves.
Yes he's made the odd mistake, but he's a keeper in L1 who's still developing & is being asked to play as an outfield player behind the back three who pass to him constantly!
I would say he's our most valuable, contracted asset, who will be wanted by several Championship teams if we're not promoted.
He will be getting our two player of the season votes.

Dembele is the most enjoyable player to watch when he's on form he proves he's way too good for this division. And as per usual i'll stick up for Marv. Shaky start to the season and yes he gives you some nervous moments but he's an imperious defender at this level. And he looks so comfortable at what he does best which is defending.

Centre halves are the cheapest to replace but we'll miss Marv when he's gone if they try to do it with U21s for cost savings, or expect Casey to step up. He's the one who you can tell is a better defender for having played against Championship strikers with how he can read a game and get blocks in to stop danger.

You can tell he's got his own thing going on with how his agent got the one year extension waived on his current contract and he won't be out of a job for long if his next move isn't already lined up.

Loans apart and there's only really Albie who I have enjoyed watching. Gabriel on occasion but yeh pretty much Albie and that's it for our own players. Bit depressing really 😂

That's true, when he's on form, he's one of our few players who looks definitely better than anyone he's playing against.

They have all done ok but I can’t think of anyone who’s been stand out.

CJ gets the most stick on this forum but he is the one player that when he gets it in space actually gets me interested.

By the way playing him left or right back has ucked him.

The grass growing has been quite an enjoyable watch - shame there was no paint drying to mix it up!

Agreed and apart from you and me most people on here seem to make him the scapegoat when we lose, great young player who’s only going to get better but when you look at the threads on here about who we should get rid of next year he’s usually on it

I always enjoy the fact that some of the angriest posts confuse Casey and Carey.

They certainly have the knives out for Sonny Carey but he’s another l wouldn’t get rid of👍

It’s been an incredibly poor season for most though some have shown a bit of form from time to time but virtually every player has lacked consistency. Even fans that are easily pleased seem to be struggling to nominate players that have been consistently good. Some will no doubt disagree but I genuinely believe we need yet another clear out in the summer and we are probably still 4-5 quality players short of what will be required to break into the top two. CJ is the best player to watch when he is on song but at the moment that is one game in 8 and that isn’t good enough..Gabriel just about edges it for me though and he is the one player I can see moving on to a higher division club but his form has also been patchy..we will be goosed without these loan players
