Turton Agrees 12 Month Extension

As per club & Scrafton's Twitter.

I doubt he's gonna be capable of being in the starting XI for a team wishing to compete at the right end of the table, but we could do a lot worse than him as a squad member who can step in when needed.

It does no harm, squad depth is good.

I imagine he ll actually be our right back, with Big Marv Thorniley, Edwards and one more signing competing for the Centre Back positions.

Unless Critch wants to play three at the back, would Turton be a decent wing back can’t see it.

I quite like this move. Decent, versatile depth and if he has to start a few games he won't let us down. One could assume we've got him on the cheap as well given the time it's taken to sort out.

Hopefully either Howe is up to it or we're still looking for our starting RB but having Turton back does no harm.

This is a time to wait and see. Many players need a different manager, than before, so as to develop. Hopefully, this is where our new manager, famous for his coaching, unlocks the potential.

Really pleased about this, Good solid player who keeps consistency going at the club and brings a wealth of experience and still, I feel, a talented lad.

Agree with most. He's a useful player to have in the squad. Solid enough at right back or in a midfield 3 to be able to come in and do a job. If he starts every game, then i doubt we'll be threatening the promotion places.

I don’t necessarily remember him having a bad game for us and I personally thought we looked much more solid when he did play without doing anything outstanding.

I think in an ideal world we’d all like another Coleman but for the amount of grief he got Eardly did okay for us in the Premiership and I’d take a steady away player.

So next season he's out of contract again no 2/3 yr offer on the table then definitely a squad player type of deal.
He's OK but would like to see better with us.

Of Critch didn't rate him as useful then he surely wouldn't be keeping him . I like Turton , he's steady enough and generally is a committed player . Let's see how Critch deploys him..
He’s a waste of a wage, Critchley is only keeping him because he knew him at Crewe, the old pals act is alive and well.

I'm fine with this, we are short in certain areas and the lad is versatile and consistent, if not spectacular. Also, if NC wants him then it's good enough for me.

His versatility, at least three positions covered in an emergency, will make him a useful man to have on the bench, and get him some game time.
I think his form will need to improve a lot if he is going to get a further contract at BFC though.

Not really a fan, that said until we know how good Howe is or we bring in another for that position he will be an ok squad player.

Solid if unspectacular squad player.
Who knows how he will adapt to NC’s style of play.
1yr isn’t doing us much damage, and if it doesn’t work out, he can go out on loan in January.

I think we need to be realistic and appreciate we aren't going to assemble an entire squad full of highly sought-after players.
Contributors such as Turton will be a key factor over a 50 game season, we could do a lot worse than having a back up who, whilst not spectacular, has played 120 games for the club and is more than good enough to cover multiple positions if he were to be called upon.

I am pleased with this. Steady away and versatile as a said on another thread recently.
He might well thrive in a team where he actually has people ahead of him with movement and space to allow a pass. Much better than Larry shouting "boot it up to that there Gnando lad".

He’s ok as a backup/standin. We won’t be playing him regularly and he knows that from the wages and terms that reflect that, and he couldnt get fixed up elsewhere quite obviously.

He is lucky Critchley kept the offer open so he needs to make the best of the limited opportunities he does get and not be a moping presence when not in the match day team.

He must wear his boots backwards because that is the only pass he knows. A team with pace is no use to Turton, every time the ball comes to him he immediately stops it then passes backwards.

Former players player of the year so doubt he's a moper.

I've no problem with this.

What size of squad do you need and what should be the make up of it be? 24 + youth? 16 of which should be first XI interchangeable ie any 11 of the 16 wouldn't weaken the team. The rest fill in players who could 'do a job' in the short term. Where would Turton fit in to the above?

Never did much wrong for me.Possibly one or two poor backpasses into dangerous areas and pushed off the ball too easily for a goal at home.

Quietly and consistently goes about his work.

We’ve had worse than Turton, not the most talented by any means but he’s another who’s performances could improve under Critchley.

Ok and welcome to the new game show "WHO KNOWS BEST"

Right its round one and today's contestants are Gfg and Neil.

Goforgoal, a keen contributor to message boards.
And Neil, a highly qualified football coach who, up until march of this year was the head coach of the u23's squad to the reigning Premier and Champions league champions.

So, Goforgoal says that Olly Turton is useless wears his boots backwards and has no pace.
Neil, has just signed Olly to a 12 month contract for this season SO............

WHO KNOWS BEST????

ask that same question at the end of the season.

It’s possible that the ultra negative Grayson might have impacted his game.
He’s got pre-season and up to January to prove himself imo

As a few people have already said, it’s a fresh start. With a new style of playing and young players being coached in order to improve and progress I think everyone should get a chance and we should stay open minded.

Turton is a much better right back than Teddy Howe. May not have the brawn -neither has Howe - but Turton has the brains.

Never seen Howe play myself so I'll bow to your knowledge on that one! If you're right then we still need a right back.
