Turned down left right and centre

Is he much better than Ian Evatt... managed Kidderminster Harriers in the conference I believe and then his time at QPR. Hardly a world of experience and wouldn't have done as well as Evatt is doing.

🙄 🙄

So a couple of people have turned us down and a club refusing to let us approach one of their staff.

In case you weren't aware this is football we are talking about and it happens almost every day.

It sometimes appears that posts like this try and suggest that we are a pitiful club and no-one wants anything to do with us. Nothing could be further from the truth and there will be a lot of interest out there.

The audacity this board have to try and approach someone who is so highly thought of by his current employers they have turned down our request to speak to him.

Hardly panic stations.
The other point to remember here is yes QPR refused us permission to speak to Eustace, but, he was interested in the role. This to me shows more and more we are an attractive proposition to quality candidates. Our stock is rising. Look at Crichley, very highly regarded by Liverpool, Klopp believes in him and his methods, co ing from the premier league champions elect, contacts galore with the Liverpool academy system and plays the Liverpool away. 12/18 months ago he would have pissed himself them told us to bugger off....now....different story...he may well come. Times have changed!

Whilst I agree finest, they are going after the right caliber of manager. They are in the eyes of the football world beginning to look more and more desperate. Why the rush? We are in a comfortable position where we will finish the season. Slowly slowly catchee monkey, wait and see what comes available in a few weeks. In the meantime put a few feelers out, without a direct approach. So long as the new man is in place for a full pre- season, job done.

For me I think we are showing principles though others may see it as naivety dependent on you position.

We are doing thing the 'right way' by approaching clubs for permission before approaching the candidate. We are not engaging in clandestine meetings, phone calls, tap ups etc with the candidate before approaching the club.

In the cesspit world of football we are a beacon of values and integrity. For me it's the right thing to do but we may (and probably are) suffer for it when clubs leak the news.

If there are strong candidates out there, then the sooner one is appointed, the better.
Yes, Dunn has improved performances and got a couple of wins, but it makes no sense to sit twiddling our thumbs, literally wasting time that could be used to have someone on board who can start assessing what he has to work with and what he needs for next season.

If there was no one available, and the appointment was going to be done quickly for the sake of getting someone in (Grayson?) then waiting would make more sense. But when there clearly are candidates out there the board like, waiting will not benefit anyone.

Take Eustace for example, why drag our heels and wait until June to approach QPR if they want to speak to him now? They could open the morning papers next week and another club could have hired him.

Identify the best men for the role, and go about trying to get one of them now. Which incidentally, they're trying to do. They're clearly not going to wait until the summer, so expecting them to seems pointless.

I honestly can’t understand why, under Oyston, there were all sorts of Nobby Nonames willing to take the job on, yet now we have an owner who’s heart is really in the club, allegedly nobody is interested!
It's not that no one wants it....its the quality of candidate we want means the successful people we approach we cant get to as their clubs (unsuprisingly) do not want to loose them and therefore will not let them speak to us. Its a compliment to us as I see it.

The difference between the Oyston board & the Sadler board is that Oystons were only interested in managers who were out of contract or risking playing staff already on the books, as managers (Grayson, Ince, Ferguson).
Basically, everything on the cheap.
Sadler on the other hand, is willing to go for the best man and pay off his contract if necessary.

I don't think I've ever come across this situation in all the time I've been watching football.
If a club approaches another one for its manager then it has a good chance of succeeding as some groundwork has been done , although sometimes it can fail.
I've never known a club keep approaching different managers though and keep getting turned down and then going back for more. What is going on?
My observations would be that if this was the Oystons it would be called shambolic and if it was Preston North End none of us would be able to get up off the floor for laughing.
The thing that worries me now is that we are are trying such a scattergun approach that no one will be able to justify that we've got the right candidate when he's appointed.
It's the exact opposite to what I expected to happen .

I wouldn’t say it was a scattergun approach, I would imagine that there is a list of potential candidates the club would like to speak to, if those people are already employed, it is only right to seek permission from there employers. Just because we have asked to speak to a potential coach/manager doesn’t mean we have offered him the job. It makes sense to speak to as many as possible to assess who may be more suited to the position. This doesn’t mean that any of them are first choice, as that decision would only be made after speaking to a number of candidates .

That honestly never happens in football. You name me one other club who's acted in this way and has kept on approaching multiple clubs for their managers in such a short space of time?

I’d prefer to get the right man in now, but the way things are playing out, perhaps now is the time to take stock and step back from the process.

There will be many options at the end of the season. We are not a minnow club and we don’t need to show any desperation.

We are only approaching people we can't get approval for, so that this board can appoint "Hecky" and say well at least we tried...

I'd love to know who has been drawing up this list and why all of this has got in to the public arena. Interesting how NDC's were the talk of this board when we had potential buyers - why can't similar NDC's be used for managerial approaches?
