Troy Deeney

Apparently announcing his next team this week. IMO a much better option than Chris Martin, but no idea what sort of wage he’d demand.

Nick Powell signed for Stockport from Stoke - that is some signing for them
Nick Powell who was going to be the next big thing signing for Man United then followed on to play for a catalogue of lower league clubs of which nobody wanted to keep him?

As a character and a leader in the dressing room and as someone who would likely understand our fans and ‘get’ Blackpool as a club - I get the feeling Deeney would be a really good fit. He would certainly offer the physicality and intelligence up top that we need more of. Legs have almost certainly gone though and after a decent career earning great money - does he still have the desire

He definitely has the desire....for McDonalds. When he came on against us he looked at least a stone overweight. Brett Ormerod commented on his 'extra timber'.

Not good enough for Massive apparently

Wednesday must avoid signing Deeney

The striker is quality at Championship level. Or rather he was. These days he’s 35-years-old and is on the back of seven goals in 35 appearances for Birmingham last season.

Deeney hasn’t actually found the net since February and spent a lot of the second half of 2022/23 on the sidelines out of the reckoning.

Wednesday already have two strikers in their thirties. Both Michael Smith and Lee Gregory will have something to offer next season and any other strikers who are added must provide pace and youthful exuberance.

Naturally, Munoz might want to sign some players who he knows well and who he can trust on the pitch.

Deeney is well beyond his best though and signing him this summer doesn’t make any sense from a Sheffield Wednesday perspective.

He was a good player but never brilliant, age hasn't done him any favours and was awful for Birmingham, a club he supported as a boy. If he couldn't find the energy to play for them, it strikes me he's probably done and just looking for 1 last pay day?

I’d rather play Marv up there. Big and mobile, great in the air. Everything that Deeney offers and more.
