Work to rule, not a total shutdown. Not sure of the impact on the timetable.Disrupted again due to ASLEF work to rule. No trains between Leeds and Bradford and no doubt many other routes.
Long gone are the days of an away day by train. Absolute rip off. Think they need to be careful of further damaging what's left of a failing service.I fully support ASLEF in their objective of better pay and conditions. Sorry.
How can someone be "semi-skilled"?Long gone are the days of an away day by train. Absolute rip off. Think they need to be careful of further damaging what's left of a failing service.
Their pay is also above average for a semi skilled role - they get zero support from me.
Have you read the thread on CJ?How can someone be "semi-skilled"?
You either have a skill or you don't. You can't have "half" a skill.
I've checked Phil, and it's as I've written. Trains to Blackpool from Leeds will be nil.Work to rule, not a total shutdown. Not sure of the impact on the timetable.
By definition. How can someone be "semi-skilled"?
You either have a skill or you don't. You can't have "half" a skill.
"Semi-skilled" is a long used term in industry. It usually applies to trades-people who perform roles that do not require full qualifications. How can someone be "semi-skilled"?

I agree its a rip-off and a shocking service but how do you equate that with the actions of its staff and not the management who have brought about that situation - and get paid big fat bonuses as a reward?Long gone are the days of an away day by train. Absolute rip off. Think they need to be careful of further damaging what's left of a failing service.

All the apps are still selling tickets, although that doesn't mean much. Why are there no trains from Blackpool to Leeds due to the overtime ban?
Today is an overtime ban and the Blackpool-York service has ran fine with no cancellations.
I work in the railway, not northern, but a Southern company. As far as I was aware Northern don’t have a rest day agreement with ASLEF so drivers don’t do overtime as it is.
Then they are skilled to do their job.By definition.
A semi-skilled worker is an individual who has specific skills and knowledge to perform their job duties without needing advanced education
They do Allez the main problem is getting back as the bus leaves Bonny Street at 17.15, which gives little time to get there from Bloomfield Road. I don't walk as quickly now as I used to.Do National Express still run from Bradford to Blackpool?
They might be skilled at shovelling stuff for example. Niche, but not necessarily skilled in the true sense of the word. Then they are skilled to do their job.
Semi skilled would be using the handle to move the stuff. They might be skilled at shovelling stuff for example. Niche, but not necessarily skilled in the true sense of the word.
Semi skilled used to refer to people who did a repetitive job like operating a Capstan lathe or sheet metal guillotineThen they are skilled to do their job.
Wizz is semi skilled ,50% of his work time on here and 50% doing work .They might be skilled at shovelling stuff for example. Niche, but not necessarily skilled in the true sense of the word.
Haven't you seen CJ play yet then ?How can someone be "semi-skilled"?
You either have a skill or you don't. You can't have "half" a skill.
Of course all strikes have a political element!A lot of the strikes seem to have a political element and it will be very interesting as if expected Labour win how they will cope with these and future pay claims
That much?Wizz is semi skilled ,50% of his work time on here and 50% doing work .
There’s me thinking to renew my rail card. If the pay and conditions are not to your liking. (You know what’s coming don’t you)I'll try that again now that I've calmed down a tad. Due to an ASLEF work to rule, the first home game against Burton Albion will be affected with no trains running between Leeds and Blackpool ( which includes Bradford, Halifax, Hebden Bridge, Burnley, Accrington, Blackburn and Preston), which makes it a damned site harder for YS Members and others to attend their team's games, particularly if they don't drive. So after many disruptions last season by those who don't want to disrupt the General Public, it looks very much like this coming season is going to be the same again.
He never mentioned your payThat much?
Another great privatisation success. The rail network is on its arse , payrises can't save it.
Especially with loss of ticket sales. Loads of times last season had to drive over. Then they talk about global warming and use public transport! The rail network is on its arse , payrises can't save it.
I was being kind mateThat much?
All capstan operators did was load metal into the machine and take finished parts out the machine did the rest. The skilled Turner would set the machine up for himOooh, I'm sure @Levi501 has used a capstan lathe in his day.
He wasn't semi skilled
I know exactly the operating system of the capstan, thanksAll capstan operators did was load metal into the machine and take finished parts out the machine did the rest. The skilled Turner would set the machine up for him
My dad was a turner. 5 year apprenticeship before he was fully qualified. All capstan operators did was load metal into the machine and take finished parts out the machine did the rest. The skilled Turner would set the machine up for him

There isn’t an issue, it’s just a bit of lefty-bashing.I still don't think there will be an issue with Blackpool-Leeds trains with the overtime ban on Sat 5 Aug. Not sure where the original post has got the info from but have spoke to a few people this morning and Northern drivers do not work overtime as it is so don't get why that would be the case.
What don't you understand?
xplain to the train drivers very slowly that theirs is a loss making industry propped up by public funds despite being privatised.
Do National Express still run from Bradford to Blackpool?
National Express run coaches between Leeds and Blackpool.I'll try that again now that I've calmed down a tad. Well your dad did a 5 year apprenticeship making him a fully skilled man, I was talking about semi skilled Capstain lathe operators. What don't you understand?
They do Allez the main problem is getting back as the bus leaves Bonny Street at 17.15, which gives little time to get there from Bloomfield Road. I don't walk as quickly now as I used to.
Dividends are usually paid to investors for pensions. Without these then private pensions would be worthless.Perhaps rail operators could explain why dividends are paid out to shareholders, yet they are unable to exist without taxpayer money, nor offer pay increases to staff.
Absolute rubbish, It is a genuine concern of travelling to see my team play. There isn’t an issue, it’s just a bit of lefty-bashing.
Just started away days by train again live Morecambe mate lives Kendal have senior rail cards. Long gone are the days of an away day by train. Absolute rip off. Think they need to be careful of further damaging what's left of a failing service.
