Transfer deadline day thread

It's clearly not gone as far as a medical for both clubs to drop their price, you can't accept two bids and have a medical at both clubs.
Just the comment about whatever the issue is seriously lowering his future value that made me wonder.

Is it possible that the club's can check his medical/ injury file even before it gets to medical stage? It is there to see online that he had hip surgery in the past.

Obviously I'm just speculating, and if that was the case, maybe it would actually help persuade him to sign a new deal. Also could be why Everton released him on a free without even offering a new deal and why we only gave him a 1+1.

Like I said, just speculating

The people fuming that we haven't brought in a CM need to take a look at the big picture here;

Our main goal this season was safety, we are going to do that easily even without a new CM, Stewart and Robson are back and with Dougall and Connolly will be enough to get us over the line and achieve that goal.

The club definitely tried their hardest to get Critchley's #1 CM target in, but dealing in the January window is tough (some clubs like Oxford just won't budge) and since we weren't desperate we didn't have to do anything rash (like vastly overpay for someone).

We've managed to get TONS of wages off the wage bill while getting in a couple hundred thousand pounds in fees.

We've set ourselves up perfectly for a smashing Summer transfer window where I'd guess Critchley and the recruitment team will be working with the biggest Blackpool transfer budget in history.

This has been a great transfer window, now sit back, enjoy the rest of the season and enjoy the training ground announcement even more 👍🍊
Totally agree with that . Excellent season so far. Decent recent results plus 3 fresh speed merchants , kept our most valuable player and haven't , so far , lost any of the others . We'll probably finish nearer the top than the bottom and one or two are a bit less than a cup half full about it all.
Safe passage til the end of the season, see what players we then need and let Canny Critch and his backroom team do a bit of shopping . Just enjoy the ride , I know I will

The only thing I can't understand is why we haven't dipped in to the loan market for a centre mid? A KDH type in the middle would transform this side into a significant force in this league. I'm delighted we didn't sell Bowler, but it does look like we really did have tunnel vision with Brannagan and consequently have left ourselves short in the centre.
KDH type???

Maybe we announced we were demanding a high percentage sell-on fee? That would certainly affect valuation.

Peterborough must be now staring relegation in the face having lost Dembele today. His contract was up in the summer so I guess they are thinking the money will come in handy in trying to get out of League One next season.

Positives and negatives, but I'm pretty happy with that transfer window overall
  • Retained our high profile winger, despite multiple offers (latest of £2 or 3m plus, £4m?)
  • Showed our rivals that we're no longer the push-over with low offers as we were under the previous regime
  • Recruited promising young prospects from L1/L2 as we said we were going to do
  • Managed to release long term fringe players and free up salary costs/squad places
  • Failed to recruit that elusive creative midfielder, but hopefully Sony can grow into that role when he recovers from injury?
  • I feel we're a bit weaker after Wintle's departure, but we have points in the bag so let's see how Stewart, Robson and the new signings get on.
  • Keshi hopefully back in a few weeks and available for the run in, and CJ showing signs of improvement every game
  • We've got a few months to try to tie Josh to a new deal
  • Think we've less chance of play offs by not getting a MF loan in, but you never know!
It could have been a lot worse. UTP

We're not that short in central mid, Brannagan was the only player NC wanted, it didn't work out but it's unlikely to have a material effect on this season's outcome and I don't see the value of signing "whatever" players just for the sake of it.

Yeh I wish I hadn’t now tbh. Was just trying to give everyone a bit of info.

The snippet that has really intrigued me in all this is your random reference to Bowler hanging around a lot with James Rodriguez at Everton. My brain is now in overdrive trying to work out the relevance of that !!

Oh sorry, I mean Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall who we had on loan a couple of years ago and was exceptional (albeit in league one).

Technically I think they have another hour (or so) to get paperwork processed, you generally only have to get heads of terms in by 11.00.

I think point 2 will prove to be the most important in the medium to long term.

Exceptional for Luton too in the championship and doing very nicely thankyou very much in the Prem. with Leicester this year

Can you still sign free agents?

How has he failed a medical at one club who have then reduced their bid and then the other club has also got wind of it and reduced theirs, all over the course of a few hours? It doesn't make any sense, did we accept an offer anyway?

It's FAR more likely that wage demands, or a sell on etc.. scuppered it.

I agree if they're permanent, but there's not a huge risk in a loan. I could be wrong but think the only one we have currently is Sterling so there's plenty of squad space for another. Seemed like a no-brainer to me if we couldn't secure Brannagan.

I’m thinking perhaps his medical showed that he has a heart murmur or similar?
I wondered if it was something like that as well given that someone in the know made a reference to Bowler hanging around with James Rodriguez at Everton. He left in September, but has just been in the news for helping to save a players life in a recent match. Perhaps I’m putting 2 and 2 together and getting 10 !!

Happy that Josh is staying, but it will be bad if it means we haven’t signed a CM. Surely that was our number one target this window.
It won't be bad it'll turn out to be ok , perhaps even pretty alright . We've nearly got safety points wise , lots of young fresh speed merchants in the team so once the threat of relegation is mathematically not happening the shackles can come off and then anything can happen:)

Ha ha it was a joke about ‘Jess Bowler’ and the crazy WhatsApp rumour recently that James Rodriguez was ermmm transitioning.

Bad joke that didn’t land. Badum tishhhhhh tumble weed.

I also think it's important to note that it was never once reported that Josh was pushing for the move.

He may have been happy that he was getting offers and looks from "bigger" clubs and very may well have accepted leaving, but it could still very well be true that he's more than happy to stay here.
Bloody hell I hope so, keep getting me off my seat Josh.❤️🍊

Sounds like there'll be a lot of hot ears from our recruitment team tonight PHEW. Whatever happened I'm glad he's still here now he's starting to add substance to his dribbling skills. It makes for a much more interesting second half of the season. I remember when Wes was with us, it was worth your ticket price to see his tricks alone.

Delighted to have kept Bowler... since the start of the season he has kept to his mentality and belief in his ability to beat the men in front of him and deliver whatever he thought was the right thing to do. I loved watching it, for all the failed attempts and clearly he wasn't the finished article (and almost certainly still isn't). Hopefully the fans around me moaning for half the season in the West have seen the light. He would have had a lot more assists if we had a different set up (IMHO ie someone to pass/cross to) but in an alternative different set up he also may not have got any possession, so what do I know?
