TOMMY DOCHERTY

Yes very sad and he had a great career as a manager and a player.

I saw him speaking at a Chelsea Legends night in Oct 2017, bright as a button, told us some great stories, brilliant at the Q&A and very happy to sign autographs and have photos taken with him. Couldn’t believe he was 90.

RIP The Doc. We were at Manchester Airport late spring 1977 waiting to board our flight, when we noticed a nearby kerfuffle, when we looked it turned out to be Tommy Docherty with Mary Brown, being hassled by newspaper reporters and photographers. News of their affair had recently broken. He was certainly a big character in the world of football.

A great football character - maybe flawed in the eyes of some, but if you were there, that Manchester Utd team of Coppell, Hill, Macari, Daly, Pearson, McIroy etc were a joy to watch.

Remember a few of us cycling from Marton to the Norbreck Hotel 1966/7 season, where the Chelsea team were staying autograph hunting. What a great team that was! Bonetti, Eddie Macredie, Bobby Tambling, Terry Venables, Charlie Cook and the great Peter Osgood, and of course managed by Tommy Doc. Think they stayed there two seasons running.

Great career in football but what I've always taken from him is that he was a very funny guy. I would have loved to have been at one of his after dinner speaking events .
RIP to one of football's great characters.

R.I.P. Tommy Docherty.
I saw him play quite a few times.
Now there was a hard man. Don't think he'd last long on the field today, but a player to watch.

RIP the Doc.
Would surely have been in charge a lot longer if he hadn’t stole the club’s physio’s wife.
I've been watching some of the interviews etc and he expressed regret about giving up the Scotland job to go and manage at ManU. What a difference that would have made in some many respects, in fact Scotland would have been a better side with him at the helm imo.
There were some great players around then and they should have done better at WC1978.

I can rember Ally McLeod admitting he should have played Souness after they were knocked out.
I agree they had some top D1 players in 78 : Souness Dalglish Hansen to name 3 off the top of my head

RIP Doc
