They are looking at robbing your pensions again

Inflation at 10.1% so the Government are now looking at getting rid of the Triple Lock that tries to keep pensions in line with such things as inflation.

We're going to be working until we drop dead at this rate.

You'd think they would have learnt to not touch pensions after Gordon Brown's pension robbery all those years ago
The one he tried to get through the back door and cover up. He was rightly slaughtered for that.
So the current government should surely not make the same mistake. Then again Truss isn't the sharpest tool in the box

Any pensioners who are worried about this can easily stop it. All you have to do is donate £500k to the Tory party.

PMQs will be interesting at noon. Many Tory MPs will be outraged by this suggestion as well. Expect lots of blinking and 'I don't accept the premise of your question', non replies.
Will we see anyone cross the floor today like Christian Wakeford? Maybe a red wall MP or two where Labour are polling 61%! More self preservation than conviction.

It won’t be for the faint hearted and I’m sure Starmer will make sure he gets his 6 questions spot on to further ridicule the PM. Popcorn event if ever there was one!

Nothing is off the table will be the stock answer.

Labour needs to be careful. I don’t know who the red wall MP’s are but they shouldn’t allow any UKIP hotheads in just like that.

Scott Benton won't be amongst them that's for sure.
Before this Truss shitshow started it was rumoured that Labour were in talks with around 5 Tory MPs.
Any one nation Conservative who believes in sound economics should be voting Labour at the moment.

Liz Truss has just reconfirmed at the Dispatch Box during PMQ that both she and the Chancellor are fully committed to the Triple Lock Pension. So there we have no need to panic!

She came out swinging
She doesn't look great, puffy faced and overly aggressive.
And of course, didn't really answer any of the difficult questions
Credit where credit's due, in Liz Truss terms, today was a better than usual performance......

However she does need to rehearse more than one answer to economic questions.

Mmm not so sure about that - yeh Torys are a shit show and I would personally meet Guy Fawkes there in a few weeks…

…but care to enlighten us all what the full economic policies of Labour are??

You may also want to cc Sir K with them 👍

Yes, she said it is a manifesto committment so of course they will retain it.

Meanwhile this afternoon they are voting to overturn the fracking ban which was a manifesto committment.

They will balance the books and allow OBR oversight, yes the details will need to be worked out but they are a relatively safe pair of hands compared to this shitshow of a government.
The Tories have cost any future government ~£20 billion per year extra to service higher debt repayments. They can never be trusted with the economy again.

I was reading that the market shenanigans after the mini budget / fiscal event / joke lost BT pensions £10 Billion, 20% of their fund. So all those who keep excusing their behaviour, blaming the world, the EU and Labour, just remember that. It's not a game, it affects all our incomes.

Just to add the extra borrowing required is one of the reasons that Hunt announced the other day that further spending cuts would be required - effectively 20 billion has just been taken of the government budget and now has to be spent on debt interest instead of services. This is another direct result of the Truss / Kwartang mini-budget.
Truss must have a brass neck, I'm not sure how she dares to show herself in public let alone think that she is suitable to lead our country. General election now.

You have no idea what Labours economic policies are - as they don’t either!!!!

The reality is I cannot stand politics from either side (or any corner) of the house at the moment - and I can see past the rubbish they all spout.

Happy to be proved wrong if you can list a comprehensive list of Labours current economic policies???

I'm already resigned to it, unfortunately my employer is saying they want to make thousands of us redundant, you can't win if working until you drop is winning!!!

I’m 73 and every labour government without exception I lived through have left government with the economy in a mess(remember the note saying no money in the kitty) which is why people like me fear a labour government
Well looking at this lot you need to fear Tory governments aswell!!
Have you considered voting Green, Lib Dem or monster raving loony!!

That isn't actually true, although Tories believe it is. Labour has had to pick up the pieces for Tory policies every single time, if you look at figures, the Tories have left higher debt every time. They have managed to triple our debts this time, so far. The only Governments who have paid back significant amounts of debt are Maggie, by selling off that which we owned, and Blair / Brown, out of growing the economy.

Starmer making a speech today to the TUC where he will 'set out Labour's plans for the economy' according to Wes Streeting this morning.

Hope he does, just goes to show that he hasn’t already 👍

Will be interested in some level of detail and not just headlines.
Not sure that they can give a penny by penny breakdown when they haven't seen the books, at best it will be a broad brush approach.
It will be interesting to see what he says, they must commit to being responsible and working with the OBR and BoE in producing sustainable budgets. However, according to Hunt just to stay where we are we have to find substantial cuts to services. I wonder if he will commit to raising taxes, that would be a controversial move. Or perhaps he will pull a rabbit out of the hat - windfall tax on energy producers is bound to be a part of it.

I don’t expect a penny by penny explanation, but i do expect a bit of meat on the bone.

I would expect windfall tax as well

Er, Liam Byrne on leaving office in 2010 ‘sorry there’s no money left’.

I can give you a list of Labours economic policy. 1) spend everything 2) borrow billions more 3) spend that.

Err. It was a joke.

In a long line of jokes.

Told by retiring chancellors to their successors.

Seriously if that’s the worst criticism you can come up with it’s……well you need to try a lot harder.
Problem is it wasn’t a joke, there wasn’t anything left.

There was loads. As there always is with governments and central banks.

It’s just that the Tories went for quantative easing as opposed to quantative tightening.

The latter by the way (selling bonds they’d previously bought during QE) they were about to adopt when KK’s budget meant the BoE had to pledge to spend £65bn on buying bonds instead.

The Bank’s current position is that they hope to start selling (quantative tightening) on 1st November - coincidentally the day after Hunt’s fiscal statement.

Let’s hope it goes down well so we can start to recover some of the money spent.

I am assuming (understandably) this has been postponed - any idea to when?

Of course I know they, or should I say we, are never skint. As you say there’s always money around, it’s a case of good husbandry of it. I should at this point state my political neutrality at this point. I have voted in every election since I was eligible and am now just north of eighty. In all those elections Ihave never voted either Labour or Conservative, I always vote for a person, the one who either is or if a new candidate convinces me he/ she has the interest of constituents at heart. So I am not looking at the current situation through jaundiced eyes one way or the other.
