So. What results are best for us tonight? A Pompey win against Barnsley would make Saturday’s game massive, although I can’t see Barnsley losing to Northampton if it DID go down to the final day.

Oxford v Lincoln is a tough one. An Oxford win puts them more or less out of sight of us bar a ridiculous goal swing, which when you can only score one a game isn’t great!

A Lincoln win would put the Imps ahead of us with a fairly easy game at Cheltenham and a Pompey team with nothing to play for.

At least after tonight we’ll know where we stand. Probably looking at another season in this tinpot league

Well you did give up on us a few weeks ago!

If Barnsley lose both games then they will need to beat Northampton at home assuming we win at Reading.

Of course if Barnsley bottle it I still think Lincoln and Oxford would then finish 5th & 6th, it's mathematically possible but let's be realistic, it ain't happening.

I know it's clutching at straws, but should Pompey beat Barnsley tonight, then we have it in our hands to take it to the last game and at least put pressure on Barnsley to win it. I agree with others that we don't deserve it based on our form, but if it comes along, so be it.
 
Burton v Cheltenham tonight is a massive game and not just for those two, but us also.
Hopefully Lincoln beat Oxford which puts Lincoln in pole position to pip Oxford for 6th over us, however, a Cheltenham win tonight keeps them in it to catch Burton and Cheltenham play Lincoln on Saturday.
Would rather Lincoln face a Cheltenham fighting for their lives rather than a just relegated team who have given up!
For me the ideal scenario is a Lincoln & Cheltenham win tonight!
 
Ideally tonight:
Oxford v Lincoln (draw)
Portsmouth v Barnsley (landslide win for Portsmouth - circa 9 - 0)

Then we win at home against Barnsley and take it to the last game against Reading.

Who am I kidding, see you all in league 1 again next season boys

Despite the crap Critchley tactics I think we can win both games. It’s the reliance on the other results going our way that makes me doubt it. See what happens tonight and hopefully we’ve something to play for on Saturday & at Reading too.

I disagree with us not deserving it if we get there. I think we’d deserve it but could and should have done better. All other teams will have dropped silly points or they would have a better total.
Whoever finishes in top 6 deserve it.

I think our best chance is catching Barnsley. For me Portsmouth must beat them tonight, and Lincoln not winning tonight means if we win our two games we finish ahead of them, and hope Northampton can get a draw or better on the last day.
If that all pans out we will have a better goal difference than Barnsley, and would be in the Play Offs.

I’ll say I’m cautiously optimistic for the sake of my rep come 10pm tonight. The fact it’s almost a free hit if we DID lose, feels crazy after the past few weeks.

Still can’t see you NOT winning one of the games. Barnsley realistically catchable for us.

We play them Saturday. Bit of a big game

No such thing in football as a free hit @neyo - all last night will do is sow the seeds of doubt in your players minds. Been there, done that, lost the game!
 
Not guaranteed for Oxford. Stevenage are a physical team and only play one way. Not easy to beat. Exeter away - last game freedom mentality of Exeter players could throw up a strange result too.

Just to add into the pot… Barnsley joint bottom of the form table… 4points from the last 18…. Exeter joint top of form table… 14 points from last 18 😀

And Stevenage have got the biggest party spoiler in charge and he won’t have his players getting themselves beach ready. This is a game the Os won’t cherish and the pressure is on!
 
I will put my hand up and say that I didn’t think we had a chance of promotion but yet, here we are.

We are playing the fiddle while Rome burns and if that means that we have a seat in the play-offs when the music stops, I will take that.

It appears the morbidly obese woman has not yet stopped singing: we could yet make hay in the sunshine of May….

True, but they just lost to Burton ffs who are woeful! My only worry with our lot is fitness, with this being our 3rd game in six days. Glad Brannagan has had decent rest, so will surely start Friday... Let's break that Sky curse!

Blackpool win
Lincoln win
Oxford loss
Barnsley draw

Lincoln finish 5th, us 6th. We meet again in the play-off final.

If you read that again only one prediction is so far wrong.

Barnsley haven’t yet lost their last 3 games and can still beat Northampton which I think they will and we haven’t yet won our last 2 games have we?

I think your 6 days early to be honest would have looked much better if you would have hung on till next Saturday and I was proved 100% wrong.
