The Real Critchley

Been lucky when we’ve won of unlucky when we’ve lost. A lot of 1-0 wins and 1-0 defeats - when we’ve lost 1-0 we’ve usually spurned a chance but when we’ve won 1-0 we’ve often got lucky.
If you listen to him he talks about scoring first, fine margins, nothing separating teams - it’s his mentality that the result is way more important than what the team serves fans.
Fine if we were top of the league but we’re not and the problem with Critchley’s way of thinking is it won’t change and expect more of the same next season - who knows ultimately it might work but it ain’t going to be pretty or enjoyable!

Great analysis - maybe this was Critchley all along but we were doing well and didn’t see it.
I suppose unless you were watching TTV most of us didn't see much of the season we went up (I'm in the NHS and so didn't get much of a chance to watch us) and then strangely the following season I think the home crowd helped us through it, we did get lucky in some games and we had that promotion bounce. A few did say those last few games including the defeats at Derby and Peterborough spoke more about Critchley than what had gone before.

The season we went up we scored the 2nd lowest number of goals a promoted side had scored for a decade.

We just had a better defence and more clinical strikers so periods of boredom were not punctuated by as many moments of calamity 🤣

(That's possibly a bit unfair, we played some good football at times, but we had our fair share of attritional battles)

We've only conceded 2 in the last 7 games, and those have resulted in 1 0 defeats. Defence isn't the problem. Lack of goals is, and may cost us in the end.

It isn't the problem now but earlier in the season we were leaky and that contributes to where we are now. We tried in numerous away games to play the contain and break style that worked really well last time but failed to contain. I could name maybe 10 games that were thus.

Actually Wiz, I've looked at it again. At this stage we've conceded 5 more but scored 17 less than we had at the end of 20-21 so by a factor of 12, goals not scored are a bigger issue and therefore you are right.

We're over all 22 goals worse off, though of course that's 3 games less than end of 20-21 and we both score and concede more.
