The Pies

They didn't go back to that 1 off flavourless mess for me at least and are alright, but not super tasty.
I’ve just gone back through my ‘Pie Diary’ and it was the Luton game, where the CoViD Pies were served.

I’ve not bothered after that experience and bought one from the Bloomfield Pub this weekend instead.

The Bloomfield Pub Pie was OK, without being fantastic (5+ out of 10). I’m not sure where they get them from.

What rating would you give the Pies at the Ground then since ‘covidpiegate’ ? Obviously the CoViD Pies were a 1 minus at best (half a point for reasonable pastry)

Maybe 7/10. Tbh I enjoy them, big pies good amounts of each filling.

Flavour is OK but not the best flavour ever, adequate.

7/10 is virtually World Class😮

They sound more like a 5… I’ll give them another chance at the next home game.👍
Well for filling amounts it's a class leader.

Taste is average to ok, if it was super tasty it'd be a 10.

I think 7/10 is a fair score but maybe I'm a little generous on the pie rating system.

I might have to review the system.

7/10 !!!! No more than a 3 as stated previously short on seasoning, moisture and poor pastry ( I suspect that’s the Warmers rather than the pastry)

Unfortunately and again as previous I can no longer have a pie at the game as we won last time around without my pie consumption, therefore it would now be very unlucky to have a pie..... I will indulge in a Steak and ale Fromm the Pork Shop directly and report back

All I know is I've paid £3.50 for the thing and I'm damn well going to enjoy it.

There was a bakery in Manchester opposite Piccadilly Station called Andrews, their Meat and Potatoe pie was immense. Been searching for the recipe for years!

Haven't bought a pie in years and actually haven't bought any food/drink (in the West) since we returned from NAPM - I've seen what comes back from there from those around me and the hot drinks look like something you'd excavate from the ground and the food looks like it's some kind of biological experiment. IMHO the whole concourse/food/drink area is a wasted opportunity.

I’ve tried the Pork shop twice now, the first time I was unimpressed, but thought I’d give it another go, the second time I was even more unimpressed. Don’t get the hype, the club needs to find another supplier and look at their equipment for keeping pies hot, without murdering them.
Quality shop!

I'm going to make the effort to get in the ground a bit earlier next home game, and with an empty stomach. I haven't had a pie this season and I think I need to sample both the Meat & Potato and the Steak. Then I can properly take part in this very important debate.

I would try and do two matches on the bounce if possible with empty tummy - Take in a hot/warm Hollands (or brand of choice) M&P and buy the clubs offering of same and repeat with a steak a week or so later ... A true comparison and judgement will then be able to be proffered ..

I’ve tried both, and unless there’s a significant change, I wouldn’t bother if I were you

Haven't had a meat and potato pie since about 2003, think Greggs was still called Burtons, used to get them from the one in the teanlowe, bit of brown sauce, lovely. These new fangled pies sound like diseased hockey pucks manufactured by satan himself, how long until they take a victim?.

Never had one, it sounds like a block of lurpak covered in pastry
The butter pie despite being a Nobber favourite is a fine thing.

From Wikipedia:
"The pie is known to be created for workers from Lancashire's Catholic community, to consume on days (mainly Friday) when meat could not be eaten.[1][2]

From 2006, the butter pie was included in the annual World Pie Eating Championship in Wigan, in the vegetarian category.[3]

Butter pies were served on match days at Preston North End's Deepdale stadium until 2007 when the providers, Ashworth Foods Ltd, ceased trading. With the new providers, Holland's Pies not offering a butter pie, two Preston North End fans started a campaign on Facebook calling for the return of butter pies to the matchday menu.[2][4] In 2010 the butter pie made a return to Preston North End's Deepdale stadium after the huge demand for the pie".

There, I've said it. I know it's disloyal, but fair do's 🏝️🥞 😗

*Breaking pie news*. I had the meat and potato from the little shop opposite the Bloomfield today and it was in sparkling form. A super soaraway shortcrust pastry clad delight. Top of the pie pops for me so far this season. What's your highest climbing pie? Maybe we need a pie league table with automatic relegation for the non-performers? 🏝️ 🚀 😗

To Pie or Not to Pie that is the question, do I risk the clubs offerings or go for a pre-entry gobble option 😉
I sat near Homo today who was, pre match, letting his very hot pie cool on the floor under his seat. When it had reached his desired temperature he tore into it but it’s fair to say his verdict was damning on the Steak Pie

Had a steak pie at half-time today in the West Stand (South) and a pint of John Smiths, I enjoyed them both but the steak pie was very nice !

The Gull invasion was scary
Wtf was it all about.

Before the game quite early in the north there was a big one behind us and few rows back, i did the same and put my pie down for a bit but kept a keen eye on our new friend.

When I said we need to grow the fanbase I wasn't sure we'd do it so quickly 😂

It brought to mind “The Birds” by Hitchcock

Had a steak & haggis from that shop today as well (Cottage bakery or something), was bloody amazing and of great value. The lad had a sausage roll as long his arm as was equally good. Given up with the ones on sale in the club, always burnt and stale, minging.

Having been in Tenerife for our last two home games (Extremely bad planning I know) I am in need of a Pie... So do I risk the club's offering again or do I go elsewhere ? Advice snd guidance greatly appreciated....

As mentioned above, try the bakery opposite the Bloomfield Pub 👍

The Bournemouth bloggers were raving about the quality of the pies so perhaps the south stand concourse is the place to be

the north stand nob eads should throw them at the Reading fans as they’re leaving, two birds, one pie kind of thing

My lad got one last game it was dry and utter shite.

I get my pie in the Armfield now. Support your local club.

I’m considering starting a thread about the quality of the chicken burger in the Heineken lounge today, it should get my batting average up

The pies are fine I've not had a vegan one but all the others are ok just a basic pie innit, I do wish they'd warm more of them though they run out very quickly and thats in the pie queue in the west not the beer one there is never any hotdogs either think they run out of them before the games even kicked off. One thing that I don't like is tetley tea its just not strong enough I debag when I'm back in my seat and it's still weak I'll still have one today might ask if she'll drop me another bag in.

Burgers would be good too could get rid of the vegan pies and bring them in people only eat the vegan pies when there's no meat left innit.

Another shout for Laines on Church St,top quality for years. For the sweet tooth the cakes are delicious.
As a youngster the pie shop on Mereside was ace,(late 60's can't remember the name now)meat and potato on a barm cake.
That kept us going all day, great memories.
