I don't usually like to start threads but I thought i would for this.
Just started watching this on Netflix. Not watched any previous series of it but this latest one is breathtakingly good and belly laughing in parts. Upto episode eight or nine in a binge watch. Some of the scenes between Chalrles and his brothers are roll on the floor laughing moments and Thatchers audience with the Queen is jaw droppingly good. There must be so much artistic licence portayed and no wonder that I believe Buck House are not amused. Charles and Andrew come across as real bell ends and there's no small amount of put downs between them.
It's staggeringly funny and good. Highly recommend for whatever your views of the Royals are.

Cheers 20’s. My sister has recommended it to me for the same reasons.
Will get on it 👍

It is really good and I'm far from being any kind of royalist.

Helena Bonham Carter steals every scene she's in, as usual👍

The wife loves the series and just started Series 4 episode one now, me I'm watching two middle aged blokes throw a piece of metal at board. 😁

On episode 5. Watched it religiously since it started. Great telly.

Still think Claire Foy was the better Queen. Imelda Staunton up next.

Do yourself a favour and watch the first 3 seasons, truly spectacular drama and eye opening. You will enjoy it all.
Yes perhaps but this latest series is so current to my life and no doubt yours in terms of being at an age and around when all this was happening. I know I said artistic licence but simply just wow.
I'd hate to be William watching this.

Starting it this week and have watched the other 3 seasons. Looking forward to it.
20's , what did you think of the Queens Gambit?
I'm on the last episode, not sure what to make of it. I've enjoyed it and I think she's a good actress but it was a bit slow in parts for me.

We've just finished season 4, episode 3 and I think it's absolutely fantastic; one of the best dramas I can remember for years.

The casting is excellent.

Yes, I nearly didn't watch any of it, but the first 3 seasons are such eye openers it was just absolutely brilliant. Seriously, you will absolutely eat it up.

Just started watching series 1, 5 episodes in and really enjoying it.

I watched 3 episodes of Series 1 last night. Very very good. Some fabulous character acting. Will be back on it tonight seeing as we are starved of Pool action.

Loving the new series but it doesn't do the Royal Family any favours - wander if they are watching it??? IF its factually accurate they surely must realise their relevance to a modern inclusive multi cultural Britain is diminishing by the year and when the Queens reign comes to an end it might be time to turn Balmoral into a Hotel, Sandringham into a turkey farm and Buckingham Palace into a theme park?

What? You d rather have a bland president type arrangement instead?
Mindyou Trumpys looking for a nice new president job somewhere I believe

Well said who would you rather have head of state Boris or the Queen no flaming contest.

I actually think it's a brilliant series. Top script from a writer with huge pedigree, great direction, brilliant sets and locations etc...and you continually ask yourself 'how much of this is true?'

In the first 2 series, you really get a better - and a sympathetic - vision of the Queen and the difficulties placed on her when 'duty' comes before family. Her relationship with Margaret is always really complex and the way they show her insecurities around her worldly knowledge and other world famous people (Jackie Kennedy etc.) is brilliantly done. And I defy anyone not to be really enthralled by the episode where Phil sends Charles to Gordonstoun. It's brutal, but despite being a world away from 'real life' it's also basically just about a dad trying to protect his son from the trials he faced as a boy. Dr Who is really good in it.

Not started on the new series yet but the previous ones have been excellent.

Agree with the comments above that Claire Foy was the better Queen and Helena Bonham-Carter as Princess Margaret is brilliant in series 3.

agree it really destroys Charles and Andrew. But don't agree with the rest of your post. In real life , once Charles is out the way, it seems that William is very tuned in to the people so I'm confident that when he accedes the throne we'll be in good hands with him as a monarch.

Persuaded Mrs H to give it a go tonight. Just finished’Life’ on BBC Iplayer which is only 6 episodes but well written plots. Hoping The Crown will keep us going until Lockdown ends ( hopefully) .

Up to about episode 7 of series 1 tonight. Loving it. Wanted to do another 1 but am too tired.

Cracking. Matt Smith fantastic as the D.O.E. 👍

Watched 3 of the latest series last night, brilliant. I have to say the whole lot is one of the best things I have seen for a long time, the early series especially.

It appears that I'm not the only one:
to be fair I think that could be applied to a lot of the portrayal of the characters. I think it's in ep 8 where Charles and Andrew keep putting each other down. Way over the top but brilliantly funny.
Rule 1 of AVFTT is don't get into a contradictory position to 20s🤣
Can you not upgrade it to be one of the Ten Commandments. 😉

Great to watch, but find Gillian Andersons voice as Maggie a bit OTT.
I think her voice is pretty much spot on. That's how Thatcher spoke. Maybe a bit ott but I think a lot of the script, scenes and voices are perhaps a bit ott. That's what makes it so brilliant.

Not enjoyed the later ones as much as I did the earlier ones .. almost as if they rushed to get them out based on the success of the first series.

Just imagine if they bring it up to the present day. Perhaps thay will wait until Liz has popped her clogs before they do, including the Andy and Epstein episodes.
For years my wife has said the are a dysfunctional family and , if they were a family off a council estate, the kids would have probably been taken into care!!
