Did it go to VAR ? In the ground it looked horrendous and a certain red card from where we were sat.
Yep he was not in control and a split second either way Maxwell was off on a stretcher so contact or not that was red all day long for me.He jumped in with both feet off the ground, irrelevant of who made contact with whom it was reckless and endangered the safety of an opponent, should have been a red card and I guarantee if it was the other way around we would have been down to 10 men.
If that the case suprised they didn't get a penMaxwell kicked their striker. Only a yellow he jumper with two feet.
Right decision.
Had he gone near Maxwell like that he'd have gone.it's a strange one this. Players attempts to block an opponent clearing the ball can often lead to the player clearing the ball follow thru kicking the blocker. And it's the clearer of the ball who often comes off worse in these situations and leads to the blocker getting booked. Yet is the blocker really doing anything wrong? And in todays instance he didn't jump in to Maxwell, he simply jumped in to an area to try and block the ball. It was Maxwell who made the contact with him. For me, it's a very grey area.
As founts said their player only attempted to block the ball, the contact was made by Maxwell. The point is that anyone kicking a ball has some sort of follow through and that has to be taken into account too. It's why I said it's a grey area. If VAR did look at it and i assume they did, it is why it was only a yellow card. If there hadn't been VAR then i reckon that it could have been seen/interpreted differently by any other referee. And why i said it's a grey area.Had he gone near Maxwell like that he'd have gone.
However as you say it was more a lunge to stop the ball ahead of Maxwell.
But Maxwell had the ball and was in control of it, when he kicked it he has every right to be able to kick it freely.
I havent seen it again since but people saying he kicked the guy, whereas if his foot after kicking the ball was hit by the player he'd have gone?
I may be wrong, but people on here saying a red were at the game. From that angle you wouldn’t see the players movement away from c. The ref would have seen that movement and be confident that var would have a look.As founts said their player only attempted to block the ball, the contact was made by Maxwell. Yeah, right decision for me anyway. Would have loved a red but it wasn't.As founts said their player only attempted to block the ball, the contact was made by Maxwell. When you go back to the Carey sending off earlier in the season for what was violent conduct, how do you judge a high two footed studs up off the ground lunge. And then give the same yellow card punishment for a tangle.Maxwell kicked their striker. Only a yellow he jumper with two feet.
Right decision.
Straight red all day long.Must of missed the rule change.2 footed lunge off the air not in control of tackle.Yes Maxi kicked him but he was in the air.So even one footed it’s a yellow.2 footed, he was in the air for 15 feet, straight red
FFS he was two footed in the air & not in control of his challenge wether he was trying to block the clearance or not.He was trying to block the clearance, not make a tackle. Yellow if anything.
Didn't look like an attempt to harm though. Just picked up on Maxwell taking forever and a day.FFS he was two footed in the air & not in control of his challenge wether he was trying to block the clearance or not.
Don’t have an issue with anyone trying to block a clearance. If they miss it & the guy follows through it’s going to be a Yelp-right or wrong. The Southampton guy left the ground & it was two footed & not in control.Case rested.Didn't look like an attempt to harm though. Just picked up on Maxwell taking forever and a day.
Flip it and their fella doing the same and Yates takes the man out (like he did recently somewhere, was it Hull?) and nobody's crying.
That's fair. I didn't see it as out of control. Was just concerned that CM had got himself injured by taking too long to make his move. He'd had a couple of warnings just before it.Don’t have an issue with anyone trying to block a clearance. If they miss it & the guy follows through it’s going to be a Yelp-right or wrong. The Southampton guy left the ground & it was two footed & not in control.Case rested.
Yep Maxi takes a bit to get shut. And can see attackers closing him down. But these days apparently if you leave the ground & not in control of a challenge Ur in trouble.Unless you have a premier league referee at a premier league ground with VAR.That's fair. I didn't see it as out of control. Was just concerned that CM had got himself injured by taking too long to make his move. He'd had a couple of warnings just before it.
Totally agree. Replay showed both feet off the ground, with studs showing. You can’t lunge in like that!Yep he was not in control and a split second either way Maxwell was off on a stretcher so contact or not that was red all day long for me.
He was nowhere near Maxwell, who simply kicked him when clearing the ball.
We'd be moaning like mad if it was Nadine getting sent off for similar.
you get it wrong when you say tackle. A tackle is when you commit to tackling a player. Their player didn't attempt to tackle Maxwell he attempted to block the ball after it had left Maxwells foot. The clue is in Maxwell made contact with him not the other way round. So if you think it's a tackle then who tackled who?Straight red all day long.Must of missed the rule change.2 footed lunge off the air not in control of tackle.Yes Maxi kicked him but he was in the air.So even one footed it’s a yellow.

not nonsense at all. As i first said it's a grey area. You get it wrong because the angle of his lunge was never at MAXWELLAbsolute nonsense, what's Maxwell supposed to do when he kicks the ball, instantly pull his foot back? His clearances wouldn't go very far at all if he doesn't follow through.
The lad jumps in with 2 feet off the ground, if Maxwell takes a step forward in that situation he can't control his movement and Maxwell probably gets a broken leg.
People saying Maxwell makes contact with their lad, that's completely irrelevant, it's like someone getting knocked over by a car doing 80mph in a 30mph zone, just because they step out into the road doesn't mean the driver isn't at fault for recklessly speeding.
He must have been close enough for Maxwell to make contact when clearing the ball.He was nowhere near Maxwell, who simply kicked him when clearing the ball.
We'd be moaning like mad if it was Nadine getting sent off for similar.
Irrelevant. Not in control. End of.He was trying to block the clearance, not make a tackle. Yellow if anything.
Irrelevant. Not in control. End of.
But his attempt to win the ball was reckless, there was no thought to the consequences of his actions. You need two feet to block on the stretch. Ref correctly gave a yellow.
You don't. It's classified in the rules as dangerous play to have both feet off the floor with studs showing. You need two feet to block on the stretch. Ref correctly gave a yellow.
Yes, but you shouldn't have both sets of studs raised. In the current rules, it should have been red.You need two feet to block on the stretch. Ref correctly gave a yellow.
