That same performance but under Appleton..

.. gets slated to the high heavens. I’d much rather we went away to teams like this (see Burnley, Sheff Utd..) and attacked and tried to score. You can forgive the gap in quality if we are genuinely giving it a go. It’s a lot harder to forgive when we set up negatively, everyone behind the ball, no outlet.

I thought it was time for Appleton to go. But in the same breath, I’m not sure McCarthy was the solution with this squad. Yes, it’s the form side in the league but our best player out of position in central midfield? Shoving players into the side, when Thorniley had done nothing wrong. I’d much rather we gave it a go in this league trying to score one more than the opposition.. mainly because we don’t have the team or the squad to do what Mick wanted to do today. Our best players are our attackers, our best chance of staying in this league is with Bowler and Poveda ON the pitch in positions that will hurt the opposition.

A bit of a rant I know, and I deliberately don’t post so soon after matches usually. But I really am worried for what’s to come. I hope I am wrong.

That's why I wanted Ollie.
Couldn't ever see him with 10 defending!

its his second game in all fairness, but set up was wrong, if we were going to go for hoof ball why not have madine and beesley up front and then connolly dougal and ze german in the midfield with yates playing as a forward midfield.

MM should be taking pelters for that because we were awful, you could see things were bad after 15 minutes

I didn't watch today's game, the match thread told me enough sadly.
But we've seen plenty of games under MA with very similar comments. I think MA was given plenty of time before being "slated", some would argue he was given too much time.

It seems like MM set up just not to get battered today due to the quality of the opposition, but it clearly didn't work and he'll quite rightly be criticised for his selections. I hope I never hear the phrase "5 at the back" ever again.

But today isn't going to define our season, the next two games will.
For me, they are now must win games (just my view, I know the mathematical possibility argument will last for weeks yet).

Such a shame, I don't think we're that far off being a mid table side. The summer transfer window has been so damaging to us, and regrettably I have to say Mansford (and whoever else was responsible for recruitment at the time) has to take responsibility for most of those failures to get several permanent signings in.

I just don't understand how or why a professional football manager won't pick his best starting 11 or play players in their best position. Is it the same load of bollocks as you can't be a professional football manager/coach if you don't tick the correct boxes and pass the exam (that says you must coach a specific way). Seems a lot of the flair and individuality has gone out of the game. All this picking teams for certain matches. Just play your best team with the best players available in their best positions.
Is it honestly more complicated than doing that?..

Ironically we've got the players now that really suit Appleton's 433, but i can't see McCarthy playing that way which is a shame unfortunately

Let’s just steady on and see how we set up these next 2 home games,I’m sure he’s got it all in hand and these last games were never about saving the season but the next 2 ARE !!!
