Team for Peterborough

Hopefully we welcome Norburn and Husband back.

Grimshaw
CJ Pennington Casey Husband Thompson
Dougall Norburn Morgan
Lavery Rhodes

I had a nosey at how Peterborough lined up last night. I see Clark-Harris is out of favour and they opt for a 4231 formation:

Who to play if Husband is still out, probably Marv for me.
I think Dembele should start again if Norburn can’t play, but there is certainly an argument for keeping Morgan in.
I guess we stick with the dame formation following a win.

*Newbury one,
Like that lineup, but I would suggest one tweak ; Dembele in for Morgan. His goal last night was a thing of beauty. Pool were much more fluid last night with a left sided wing back ( Thompson) rather than Connolly or Dale, both of whom tend to stop and play the ball back, displaying an unwillingness to use their weaker left foot, which cramps Pool’s attack !

Grimshaw
Pennington Casey Hubby
CJ Norborn Dougall Dale/Thompson?
Dembele
Lavery Rhodes

I think playing Dembele will work even better with Norborn back in. Thompson had a good game last night and did well against Charlton but Dale has also impressed, toss of a coin that one.

Dembele was excellent but faded as we dropped deeper. Peterborough will be a much tougher opposition so it's a straight choice between Dembele or Morgan. On reflection, I think I'd actually go with Dembele.

Husband said that he was ‘hurting’ in his post match interview at Oxford. There was at least one crunching tackle that left him on the deck for a time.

I suspect it’s superficial stuff, but a sensible decision to give such an important player the chance to recover properly.

If Critchley sticks with 3-5-2 I'd like to see
Grimshaw
Pennington Casey Husband
CJ Norburn Dougall Dembele Thompson
Rhodes Lavery/Kouassi

Obviously depends on the fitness of Husband and Norburn but in any case I think Connolly should be on the bench rather than starting, in any position.
If Husband and Norburn are fit I don't think Connolly or Carey even get on the bench, I'd go with your team with Kouassi starting and my subs bench would be, O'Donnell Ekpiteta Lyons Morgan Weir Dale Lavery

I just think Connolly and Carey have been the two weakest links this season and when most of our players are fit there is going to be intense competition even to get on the bench.

I actually thought Carey did well when he came on, we were starting to struggle so not easy to come on and make a big impact. He kept possession well and killed the game off with Kouassi in added on time so fair play to him.

I'm looking at his contribution over the whole season. When Norburn is fit we will probably have 2 out of Morgan, Weir and Carey on the bench. Up to now I would rate Carey as the 3rd choice but Morgan and Weir need to improve aswell.
Good to have competition and it should be an incentive to improve your game.

Yep he hasn’t pushed on like we all want him to do but time yet.

For me he has to be more aggressive in his approach and take chances going forward, however that’s easy for me to say, I’m not the one who’s going to get hammered when he makes a mistake.

Current form I’d put him at not 2👍

Not much between Carey and Weir, Morgan has been the best of the three.

I agree with most of that, but I'd always have Connolly on the bench, he's so versatile and can be trusted in pretty much the CB, RB and DM position for a game or two. He's basically 2 subs in 1.

Also totally agree about the 3 midfielders. Basically the same player and the same standard. Morgan has the best delivery though. Thankfully Kenny is a different player this season and the need to pick 2/3 mids isn't needed.....as long as ON stays fit and not suspended (which he will be).

If we had another decent striker available which will be the case when Joseph is fit then I take your point about Connolly, as he does cover a few defensive positions, but he is nothing more than competent at any of them, and we could name 2 strikers as subs.
But as things stand and we are only putting 1 striker on the bench using Connolly means leaving out one of Ekpiteta, Lyons, Weir, Thompson, Morgan, Dale, why do that to get a run of the mill utility man on the bench?

Think Casey will be rested soon though not this match.
Possibly Fleetwood not sure if Eki or Tharme will play.
Still FA cup and EFL trophy will allow some squad rotation

Wouldn’t surprise me at all if he benches Dembele for Carey!
Critch is so unpredictable with his selections

Yep.

Having Weir and Morgan on the bench are basically the same player. Probably Dale too, as he was.

Thing is with CC is you’ll get a 10 as sub , a 9 next game and a 6 by game 4.

You need to understand the limits(not you, obvs.)

I’m not sure that Dembele has 90 mins+ in him. I would start with, but bring him off if he starts to fade.

Like I said the other day, the only way Kaddy will start to get the necessary levels is if he starts and goes for as long as he can. He's our most creative AM, has to start.

Can't put my finger on why but Albie Morgan looks a whole load better in the last two games. He drove forwards in the limited cameo at Oxford, using the space them dropping off gave us. And he took that into Tuesday, he suddenly looked much more mobile than his earlier games and someone who's going to influence it, rather than just take part.

Jensen Weir's had a slow start with us. Been difficult for him, stop/start appearances, 10-15 mins off the bench every 2-3 games. But if he was signed as the "behind the front two" man he's nowhere near first choice for that position at present. And Tuesday didn't do him any favours, struggled to get into it with Cheltenham pressing, made 2-3 loose short passes. And unfortunately for Jensen he was brought on to play a defensive role, which I'm sure isn't his game. Maybe, for defensive cover, it would have been better to move Cal Connolly in there and bring Marv on? But Jensen needs some starts further up the pitch and get him driving into the penalty area

In terms of our starting 11- Critchley seems to like to be unpredictable for the opposition, or he wants to rotate frequently to keep players happy, or both.

Completely agree about Weir- I don’t think he’s one to stick on if we’re protecting a lead. He’s a creative player who thrives on the edge of the box- as his success with Morecambe showed. He seems to be lacking something so far with us.

On to Morgan- the best players show the capacity to learn, stubborn players tend to become a stagnant as they are too stuck in their ways and won’t want to adapt to new managers. Our youngest players need patience from certain fans- they are training and even the best players are still learning even after they turn 30!

Just reading the P'Boro MB and quite a few comments about their young Aussie keeper Bilokapic. He's 6'6" and shown some promise but a bit erratic with the ball at his feet so I would be inclined to stick with Lavery and Rhodes with Dembele buzzing about and keep Kouassi in reserve.
