Stoke game next week

I've been a Pool fan since 1984 and a daily visitor to AVFTT since 2001. I don't often post, but feel a need to share something.

I've just had a difficult phone call with my old fella. He's starting chemo next Thursday. My Ma is taking this harder than him. She thinks the speed of his treatment means the cancer is really bad. He's scared and it's the first time in 50 years that I've seen that in him.

It is what it is. He's been told his cancer is aggressive, so the fact he's being treated so quickly is great. There's nothing we can do but put our trust in the NHS.

He could have started his chemo on Tuesday, but he delayed it until Thursday. On Wednesday he's taking his close family to Bloomfield Rd as a late 80th birthday celebration. Last December we were in lockdown. He's a lifelong Stokie who's second side is Pool. Sir Charlie Adam is the guest speaker. I'm obviously hoping for a Pool win, but just this once I won't mind if the away side nick a win.

I'm not normally one for sharing this kind of thing, but I think it might help me deal with what is obviously a difficult situation.

My thoughts go out to you and your family at this trying time . I lost my daughter to C in 2020 Chemo is a long treatment to go through and it will test you all seeing him go through it . Hope it is successful enjoy all the times you have together . Remember a lot on here wish you all the best and will help anyway we can if needed ( hope your dad enjoys the game )

Yes thinking of you and your dad, and mum.
It’s always better to get these things out I think.
I hope you both enjoy Wednesdays game, whatever the outcome. X

Good luck to you all and what a brilliant thing for your dad to do before his treatment starts ,hopefully it will keep him and you all strong for each other till he comes out the other side.I’m sending you all the very best wishes from my family, take care xx

I know exactly how you feel, my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer when he was 80. It is a traumatic time but the treatments are so good but are likely to make him feel pretty rough and tired but they will definitely help. How much is impossible to say, the Consultant Oncologist will keep him up to speed.

Enjoy the time you have with him, it could be years yet. My dad was my best friend and I miss him every day but we had some amazing times together before and after he was diagnosed and those happy memories are with me in my heart and soul.

My thoughts go out to you. My dad is in a similar situation. He’s been battling bowel cancer for almost 2 years now and despite different chemo treatments it still hasn’t gone away. He hasn’t given up hope and is staying positive. I’m hoping he gets better so I can take him along to an away game sometime and he can see what it’s like to follow the pool.
Stay strong.

Best wishes to you, your Dad and all your family. Sharing can help deal with difficult situations like this, if you ever need an ear or someone to have a pint with at a game, just shout. Fingers crossed you all have a great night on Wednesday.

All the best mucker! I live in Newcastle-under-Lyme and as you probably know, it borders Stoke. I wish you, your family and especially your dad, all the best and if it helps then Yes-Stoke can win-It's only football and there are more important things going on in this world.

I was diagnosed with a fairly aggressive form of prostate cancer nearly 5 years ago and had radiotherapy every day for almost two months barring weekends followed by injections every 6 months for 3 years and they caught it in time it seems. They never say you are cured just that you are in remission as you can never be certain it won`t return although my blood tests say all is well so far and my PSA levels now thankfully remain very low.

It has worked so far for me. I send your dad my very best wishes and fingers crossed hope things go just as well for him.

Best wishes to you and your dad. I went through a similar thing with my dad, and whilst its obviously not pleasant, it can bring you even closer in a daft way.

BTW, Charlie Adam always seems a really good sort of bloke. Have you thought of mentioining it to him to see if he will come and have a word with your dad at the game, if you dad is into that kind of thing?

Win lose or draw I hope he enjoys Blackpool FC under the lights. Something magical about Bloomfield Road for midweek games. All the best to him in his fight, he's got this.

I couldn’t bare the thought of this being my old man who is a well known lifelong seasider, I wish your old man all the best and hope he gets back to himself, he’s obviously a top man to bring someone up who’s cares about him so much, all the best from this seasider 🧡

So sorry to hear that Lofty.

I hope that one day we will find something to eradicate this horrible disease which cuts down so many good people.

God Bless

I understand perfect;y how your Mum, yourself and your family are feeling, I lost my Step Dad at 82 to the big C. Died peacefully in the Hospice. Good luck to him and you all, it can be beaten with early diagnosis and as part of the football family maybe a little win for the Stokies could be conceded on this occasion.

So glad your dad can get to the match.
Every day should be treated as a bonus.
I went through treatment recently & thought I was getting better, bought season tickets & was looking forward to a great season.
Unfortunately my treatment failed, the club were amazing & empathetic about refunds.
It's now just good to see us doing so well, I had a good feeling about this season.

I hope the match brings you all together & has the right result for all.

Best wishes to all of you with cancer.

My fiance Helen was diagnised with cancer in her neck last September.
We went through all the tests and I took her to Preston hospital every single week day for 6 weeks with radiotherapy.

This was a life changer. She had all the right side of her neck cut out and she can't eat properly now. She has lost 3 stone and is under weight.
Unfortunately, they still can't find the primary, so it could still be with her.

She has had more and more tests and gone through all the usual treatment, but next Friday we will be getting the results of all the new tests.

You just have to remain as positive as you possibly can. Its hard for me aswell as her carer and doing a full time job as the bills still need paying.

Last month we went to Benidorm and if you've been, you'll know there is a giant cross on top of a mountain. It is about 3 miles walking to the top and we were determined to do it. She was gasping for breathe and she was exhausted, but we made it. Right to the top where the cross stands.

My time is Blackpool FC. I love our club and I'm proud to stand with all the Blackpool fans home and away.

Please always stay positive and hopefully make a recovery.

Thanks to all my fellow Seasider's for your kind words. I feel better today after sharing last night and reading your posts this morning. I'm off to see Ma & Pa later and will pass on your best wishes. Then it's back home to enjoy (hopefully) another three points for our wonderful club.

Good luck to your Dad , words don’t mean that much at a time like this , but all the Seaside family are with you & your Dad 🍊

Coinslot, so sorry to hear about your Dad.
My prayers are with him.
It must be a tremendous strain on your Mum, you, and the rest of your family.
Give him our (BFC fans) best wishes, and tell him we are thinking of him.

Coin slot and anyone else going through C or family with C . If you are attending a CCentre with a Magies attached or near to it make sure you call in when our daughter was in Christie's they gave us so much support and advice both emotional and on fanancial help available SO SEEK them out. Best wishes to you all

Sorry Coinslot, late to this. Please accept my best wishes and hugs fro you and you family, it's a bastard. I spent a fair while today talking to a young colleague who has just one more Chemo to go, talking nonsense and talking deep stuff. Puts so many of our daily troubles into context, Shankly was wrong.

Best of luck at the game, sure Charlie would stop for a word if you let the club know, he's an ace bloke and our current club team are wonderful.
